That smile of satisfaction when you hit the chord changes or whatever part it is is what it’s all about!! Good job! Hell, when I was playing for a year I wasn’t even close to your skill level. Keep it up. The instrument will be satisfying, frustrating, glorious, infuriating and something you will never want to be without. Like a true best friend.
Yeahhhh, brilliant great words, it's ace but also bloody frustrating but it's mint when you nail it, cheers... Totally agree with you mate, keep rockin 🤘🤘🎸🎸👍👍
This was fascinating. My guitar teacher told me to make recordings of my playing every so often because you progress so slowly you don't understand what you accomplished until you go back and listen to those 1st recordings.

I have been playing for just over a year and I have to say your progress is beyond where I am now. I can totally relate to the way you smile when you finally get the thing you've been practicing right. Watching others who are learning also motivates me to practice more. Have fun and keep it up.
This was so great to watch. You reminded me what it was like to get started. The blisters, the bleeding, and miserably sore fingers were all worth it when you hit major milestones. You've made excellent progress and should be very proud of what you've accomplished. The guitar is such a versatile instrument, with so many techniques to learn and master, it'll provide a lifetime of personal growth. It's been able to give me a voice when I didn't have words, and my greatest source of therapy. I've been playing for close to 30 years and I'm still learning and still loving every minute of it. I can't wait to hear where you're at after another year!
I love that you're putting yourself out there. At your level I'd have never wanted to show myself. Heck, even now I don't want to and I'm a little bit better than you. You're an inspiration for sure.
Inspired - keep it up and keep loving the process, and not too focused on the end product in or overly concerned with mistakes -loving the process of learning will get you far - it will keep you engaged.
I'm currently learning acoustic guitar (hoping to do electric, lol), and this has definitely inspired me. Like, to see your progress makes me like "Yeah, I can do this! It's difficult, but I can! If you can, why can't I?" Tysm🥰❤️🌺
I hadn't played for 17 years when I started playing again in Jan. of 2021 again. My blues technique is now better than I ever played after only 11 months. You are progressing quickly, and have potential. Never give up, practice daily.
One thing I like about watching beginners that have had lessons is that if there’s a simple song you haven’t bothered to learn yet and want to know the chord progression a beginner will have slower chord changes so you can learn by watching really quickly. One day I’ll get round to learning to transcribe by ear. Smart choice of guitar you can play anything on a telecaster. Keep enjoying what you’re doing because if you think this is fun just wait until you get to play with other musicians that are into the same music as you and going out busking with them 😎🎸👍
+1 on the Telecaster remark. Excellent choice. And Squiers are very good instruments for the price. The custom vibe thinline tele is my favourite out of the telecaster CV line.
Ah yes, the iconic 0-3-5 Awesome progress! Hearing that pedal switch in “Smells Like Teen Spirit” was so satisfying. That fast strumming bit at eleven months was crazy! I have been playing for around the same time as you, and while I can probably play the same speed, I definitely can not maintain it for as long as you did. Keep on playing!
Wow - It is so cool you took time to put this together! It was like watching you grow up. I hope you continue to keep a video record during the next year so we can see you again in 2022. Keep it up girl!
Hello Michelle. This vid is awesome. I can remember when I was at that stage and believe me, it was fun. Seeing the phases of your progress was great. I believe you'll be cranking it at ease within another year with all this modern tech available like youtube guitar lesson, tabs online etc. Back in my days, it was either Mel Bay or Roy Clark stick on notes, lol. Keep doing your thing and hope to see more jamming from you. Btw, if you don't already know it, try the " roll on - one finger chord " start on 2nd position / four strings up from bottom ( A ) and then take it down the neck. I swear by that chord. Keep on Rocking !!!
Music is an expression of your soul; once you tap into those vibrations, you can project it to the world through an instrument 🎸 Shits not easy though! Great vid and dig your vibe; keep digging because it's a lifelong experience:)
Knowing how cruel the internet can be, it took guts to show your progress in video form. You're doing great and showing more dedication than I did at that age. Don't let it slip and keep trying new things all the time.
Well Done! You're Rythem skills are Excellent for someone who's only played for a year. I've been playing for a year also, though I play more arpeggio/riff/leads style stuff - it's so cool to see others progress 👌🔥❤
Hell yeah, I learned alot of MCR and Nirvana when I started too. Seems like you've really taken to the guitar quite well as an instrument! I hope to see Yr#2 progress happen upon my algorithm in the future
massive progress over a year. your right hand looks really good - nice and loose. a lot of folk underestimate the importance of their right hand technique and just practise getting their fretting stuff sorted out. good to see you very clearly working on both. keep it up!
Well done! Great progress. Good that you recorded yourself from the beginning. You must be proud of the big improvement in one year. I was surprised that in December you were already doing natural harmonics! I'm an eternal beginner and I just started to try them after so many years haha. When I was young I just learned songs which was great but I didn't really learn the instrument. Now in my 40's I picked up the guitar again after a 20+ year break and I'm really trying to learn some theory, which has helped me create my own "music". "Music" is still a big word haha, but I like playing my own stuff at night when I finally have time to play and it relaxes me a lot. I still need to practice a lot more to learn songs I always dreamed of playing. I love your Tele. Strats and Teles were never my favorite but I ended up buying a Squier Strat Bullet (now called Sonic) in sea-foam green and I love it. Just like yours! Great job! Keep rocking!
I just got my first electric guitar and when I came across this video I felt soooo motivated and inspired I will be saving this video and everytime I'm gonna look for some motivation I know which video I'd go for thank you for sharing with us your progress. You're amazing ❤️❤️😭
It's been more than 10 years that I have a guitar and i'm very bad compared to this. This video makes me want to practice every day from now on 😌 you're such a goal to follow!
Great video, and an inspiration for anyone learning...for any beginner guitarists ...dont ever be reluctant or scared to play with anyone else no matter what your skill level is ....I used to think I will practise and get better before I play with anyone else. But once I took the plunge my playing got so much better .....
I think it's awesome that you stuck with it until you got past beginner level. Most people just give up when they realize playing electric guitar takes actual work. Excellent job. I'm sure you've inspired many people who see now that it only takes a year of practice to sound good. And nice choice of songs, btw---ROCK ON!!!
Your progress is very inspiring. I want to purchase a electric guitar and learn how to play it. So seeing you making good progress inspired me. You’re amazing God bless ❤️❤️
Keep it up another year and you will be playing intricate solo's !! Practice is something we all have to do . After 40 years of playing I find it a little harder to find over a half hour to 1 hour of practice time. I do as much as I can it keeps me fairly sharp and keeps away most of the rust ? You should focus on using your pinky more it makes everything easier but it takes time . Good Luck and ROCK ON !!!
Very cool ….I’m a left handed guitarist …been playing 35 years ….I’m gonna start to teach myself to play right handed ..it’s like relearning …just like u are ..,great video never stop ..,ur a natural I can hear it
Good progress. I never liked practicing things where my left hand sat still. Like barre chords. Gotta learn them, but I think coordinating both hands to one another, and learning to move your wrist, not your elbow on your right arm, are extremely important. Sometimes practicing things that are not terribly musical, like straight chromatic notes, is extremely healthy for the hands. All of it is good, though. Glad to see you are taking lessons. The language is important. Great job.
You seem like a natural, but I'm sure you practiced a lot. Good video and great progress. i just bought my first guitar and hope to post a similar video one day.
I couldn't help but smile the entire time. I picked up an acoustic a few days ago and the first few practice sessions have been miserable lol I was thinking there's no way I can figure this thing out. Fingers are hurting and I'm wondering how did I go through life not realizing how uncoordinated I am. SMH. However, this was the encouragement I needed. Thx for sharing.
Dude that's amazing that you just started, if you need any encouragement you can check out JustinGuitar, because he is such an amazing teacher and his passion for the guitar has saved me from quiting in my early days as well
Pretty cool. Really nice skill already. Over the years it will become more natural, at some points i think you still think a lot about what you do, that will become instinct, feel and simply muscle memory, at least for a lot of things. I hope you keep playing and also posting videos. You are good but i think you have the talent to learn how to become really great.
You've now have 1 true friend now, the guitar. Your progress is amazing ! I'm jealous, it took me years to be bad. I'm 60 started at 18 and I can say it's probably the only struggle I enjoy. I have been playing guitar for thirty years.... I loved your year in review. I am sure one day you will be way better than me.... have a great day and keep jammin!!!
I been playing accoustic guitar for over 10 years but have recently took to trying my hand at creating my own Solos which I have just recently uploaded to CZcams. I take my hat off to anyone who picks up a guitar and sticks with it... It takes dedication
Wow! Interesting, I'm approaching month #10 as a guitar player. This video is very inspiring. Each month I've focused on one song as well. Initially I was sharing it all on my Instagram. As I've improved, I started taking down the lesser ones as I didn't want my peeps to keep watching me make numerous mistakes (I've been my worse and only critic). LOL.... I might just put together a yearlong progress on you tube as well. You sound so good! Much respect to you!
Great to finally see someone who isn't lying about how long they have been playing and is actually believable, you're making great progress keep it at up you'll be a rock star before you know it :p I was so done with seeing people play the stairway solo perfectly with "1 year of playing" :/
You guys, I'm overwhelmed by all the positive comments! It means so much to me and I am beyond grateful ❤️
Awesome progress! New subscriber here and am looking forward to seeing your future progress, keep having fun.🎼🎸
Fretlight Guitars are A W E S O M E for learning !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What equipment do you use to record? and any particular software you use?
You put in all the hard work Michelle. We are just applauding your efforts and success! :)
Great job sticking to it! Lot of people give up after a few days or weeks. You will be amazed after 5 years of playing. Good luck!
Very well said
Yeahhhh, brilliant great words, it's ace but also bloody frustrating but it's mint when you nail it, cheers... Totally agree with you mate, keep rockin 🤘🤘🎸🎸👍👍
More than a best friend I treat my guitar better than myself 😅
I am a beginning guitar player myself and you have inspired me to double-down and practice!
love it!
Have you continued practice?
This guitar has been with you for a year, when you eventually upgrade to a better one don't forget her
This was fascinating. My guitar teacher told me to make recordings of my playing every so often because you progress so slowly you don't understand what you accomplished until you go back and listen to those 1st recordings.
That is actually so helpful
I accidentally deleted the recordings of me playing when I started, but I imagine it was absolutely horrible compared to my skill level now.

Well done! Looking forward to seeing the 2-year progress video -- I bet you'll be really rockin'. And I love the color of your Tele.

I'm laughing so hard cause that's true dedication when you have a practice session in the bathroom👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

It's fantastic for natural reverb, y if you have tiled walls.

You are doing great. Talent and some hard work there. Easy to see. Wonderful. Excellent!!
I've been practicing for 6 months and your video inspired me a lot to continue the journey!
Good job on the progress over the year! Keep going like this!
Very inspirational. I started playing guitar June 2020 but I've been too busy to practice. Makes me wanna keep going 👍
3:28 I loved the smile, she is so proud! very nice progress you play very clean!
thanks! I'm finally trying to record some new covers so this made my day
awesome progress and great dedication. ive been playing 25 years and never progressed beyond intermediate level guitar so this is inspiring
I'm currently learning acoustic guitar (hoping to do electric, lol), and this has definitely inspired me. Like, to see your progress makes me like "Yeah, I can do this! It's difficult, but I can! If you can, why can't I?" Tysm🥰❤️🌺

very nice progress i can see the confidence in the last part of the video. really good progress for just one year keep it up
Wow - It is so cool you took time to put this together! It was like watching you grow up. I hope you continue to keep a video record during the next year so we can see you again in 2022. Keep it up girl!

Awesome! I just started guitar at 53 years old, this is an inspiration. Thanks for posting.
That was awesome and you were really enjoying it too. Nice. It gives me hope as a beginner.
Dude you're killing it. Amazing improvement in a year. Keep at it!
Music is like life you can do anything you want to if you put your mind to it , keep up the good work!
Great job! I love seeing stuff like this. It's great that you started on a Tele too.
I'm nearing my own 1st year anniversary and let's say you progressed much faster than what I have. Well done.
That’s awesome. Very encouraging. I just started a couple of months ago. Keep it up, you look like you should be playing.
Great Job 👏
Just proves the point, no matter how discouraging it may be, practice, practice practice is what gets you there.
you’re so amazing you’ve inspired me so much!!! 💗 and god the smile on my face whenever I hear you covering an mcr song
aw I appreciate it

❤❤
Great!.. Keep at it! Enjoy the journey as music grows with us.
Keep at it. I'm still learning & got my first guitar for Christmas in 1989.
Very cool ….I’m a left handed guitarist …been playing 35 years ….I’m gonna start to teach myself to play right handed ..it’s like relearning …just like u are ..,great video never stop ..,ur a natural I can hear it
Just bought my first guitar, and your video just happened to pop up. thanks for the inspiration :)
❤
Good progress. I never liked practicing things where my left hand sat still. Like barre chords. Gotta learn them, but I think coordinating both hands to one another, and learning to move your wrist, not your elbow on your right arm, are extremely important. Sometimes practicing things that are not terribly musical, like straight chromatic notes, is extremely healthy for the hands.
All of it is good, though.
Glad to see you are taking lessons. The language is important.
Great job.
Imagine your first guitar being a Squier Telecaster... Thats Just Awesome! Your progress is was amazing!
Wow! All that in just one year! Impressive ! Well done !
You seem like a natural, but I'm sure you practiced a lot. Good video and great progress. i just bought my first guitar and hope to post a similar video one day.
thanks! Good luck, I hope to see it if you do! :)
Love the MCR songs. Great job!
I couldn't help but smile the entire time. I picked up an acoustic a few days ago and the first few practice sessions have been miserable lol I was thinking there's no way I can figure this thing out. Wow, you really progressed in year! I hope you started a band, you're definitely ready.
For those about to Rock we salute you! Keep it up !! Nice job and thank god someone is playing instead of rapping
Pretty cool. Really nice skill already. Over the years it will become more natural, at some points i think you still think a lot about what you do, that will become instinct, feel and simply muscle memory, at least for a lot of things. I hope you keep playing and also posting videos. You are good but i think you have the talent to learn how to become really great.
awesome! best of luck, keep it up 🙌🏼
thank you!!
You've now have 1 true friend now, the guitar. Your progress is amazing ! I'm jealous, it took me years to be bad. I'm 60 started at 18 and I can say it's probably the only struggle I enjoy. Get an acoustic and you can drag them all over the world, they aren't as fragile as some would have you believe.
I'm showing this to a young lady I know that's been teaching herself music, And I say Hairspray by Nirvana should replace stairway to heaven as the rock anthem...
Wow you made amazing progress!🔥🤘
Hey nice job your doing great! Keep rocking 🤘🏼
nice!!!! omg so excited to finally get a guitar of my own! i’d been practicing with the ones at my high school pre covid, but now as a college freshman w a job i can finally afford the guitar i want :) it kinda looks like frank’s pansy! btw him and ray would be so proud! so inspiring!!
so exciting! thanks and good luck!
You made awesome progress 🤙🏻🔥
I have been playing guitar for thirty years.... I loved your year in review. I am sure one day you will be way better than me.... have a great day and keep jammin!!!
thank you!
Much respect to you!
thanks! I think it'd be cool to make a progress video, the first year is one you don't forget :)
Good work for one year. Respect.
I need to start practicing more lmao your so good already and you like the best band ever (MCR) just a perfect person 🔥❤
Been beating up my guitar for 40 years and I just had to say, you are making mad progress. Very impressive.
Such a nice log! Very happy you ended it with Nirvana! 😊
watching that kind of videos, seeing yours and recognizing "Romance" and 'I don't love you' by mc, i didn't expect it at aaaaall
YOU IMPROVED SO FAST!!!! AWESOME!! ALSO, YOURE A NIRVANA FAN!?! THATS AMAZING SO AM I!!!!!

Great to finally see someone who isn't lying about how long they have been playing and is actually believable, you're making great progress keep it at up you'll be a rock star before you know it :p I was so done with seeing people play the stairway solo perfectly with "1 year of playing" :/
Next comes the dreaded plateau, Then the effects pedal addiction. So much to look forward to!
Awesome job!!! Keep going!
