- Here is a video that was suggested by fellow transit fan based in Ottawa, Canada @Transitfan93 of how to get to Central Station / Gare Centrale of the REM from Bonaventure metro station 🟠 in Montreal, Canada.
As you can see, it's pretty straightforward but for someone not familiar with the city it might be a bit confusing.
Even though there is some REM signage, I actually am not impressed with the prevalence of it. I think there should be more obvious REM signage to direct you to the station.
The key is to follow the signs that direct you to Gare Centrale / Central Station, which is also where other trains go such as Via Rail and Amtrak (once it returns to service again) and the exo Mascouche and Mont-Saint-Hilarie lines.
This video was filmed on Thursday, August 17, 2023 starting at approximately 12:50 PM Eastern Canadian Time.

This video saved me from being late to an important meeting. Thank you
I'm happy! That's part of the philosophy behind my channel is helping others through videos
You've performed a great public service! The route is somewhat complicated and the signage is meh.. You are a great Montrealer! (highest compliment)
Thanks!
Thanks. I hope eventually they build a more direct access.
I agree.
thank you
My pleasure and thanks for watching
I would wanted to see how to get there through the Place Bonaventure entrance, I saw a video of it online that it was a specific door
Yes I can show you that next. The only problem is it's exit only now. But I'll show it next
I rode the metro from Côte-Sainte-Catherine to Du Collège stations in the morning and on the other side in the afternoon with Set 71.
So cool! Set 71 is nice
Very cool!!
Thanks
The voices of the announcers are mother and daughter (who has a daughter herself) respectively.
Yeah true. and for service disruptions they use a computer voice I think.
I just came back from a McDonalds near Bonaventure station. I took the 411 east direction to Lionel-Groulx. From there, I took the orange line to Bonaventure and followed the signs to get to Central Station. I took me about an hour to get there, so I’m hoping that the Des Sources station (near where I live) will open soon.
Edit: the 411 line doesn’t have that much bus flow. The last bus of the morning was at 9:32am. The next bus after that one is at 3:45pm, which means if I missed that I l’y would have been in deep trouble. My point is that the REM, for the moment, is inconvenient for a lot of people.
Sounds like a fun trip. I love the 411
That will hopefully be my route when the REM opens the main segment. My current commute has me take the 485 out to where I work opposite Fairview. I figure I would rather take 3 more stops past LG and walk a few minutes rather than freezing my ass off waiting for a half every hour bus.
Let's hope your new route will be good mate
Wow Patrick have a good night. Everybody move videos to come more live streams to come.
Yes
im going there tomowrow
I hope you enjoy.
Very informative video Patrick though they could do better with the signage and directions if you happen to be from out of town imo. I do like the old black and white pix depicting the history of the station is a nice touch. I hope they keep it there or at least have a permenant. display area The art deco thing.I think it's called Mr. Boom or something but..nope not for me.
Yes I agree the signage could be much better. The art is interesting but yeah not my thing either. Better than a boring cement wall I guess.
I posted a ceiling fan short!
Hopefully the REM will have an official entrance in Place Bonaventure. That make more sense and it is shorter, instead of walking 3 minutes. Why no brainer implementation in Montreal has to be so difficult sometimes!
Very true. We will see
It's a little bit long between the two, I do it the first time I ride the Rem
Yes mate very true
Update: I’m not travelling to East Montréal ever again. I’ll certainly go there sometimes, but just for the REM and metro rides. I just don’t like the vibes there. There are so many beggars, homeless people and weirdos around. I was walking down the Sainte-Catherine street near Bonaventure métro this afternoon and there was a random drunk dude that started self-talking and swearing all while being like he was sleepwalking. Additionally, there are always construction sites everywhere to the point even Google Maps can’t figure out where to go. I mean, East Montreal is just an unbelievable mess. I’ve been living in Pointe-Claire for 4 years and I gotta say that West Island is a much better, quieter, cleaner, newer and safer place than Saint-Laurent or Ahuntsic-Cartierville in the East. I’ve traveled to Cote Saint Luc, Beaconsfield, Pierrefonds and Kirkland in Western Montréal many many times and I have seen little to no beggars, trash and homeless people. Even the oldest place in Western Montréal like Lachine and LaSalle are way better than most of Eastern Montreal. Though not as new and well-equipped than the Southern Shore cities like Brossard and Candiac, West Island is still very good and offers great living conditions. It’s certainly better than getting kidnapped and robbed by thugs, weirdos and addicts in Saint-Laurent. Gosh I hate Downtown Montreal!
Yes it is getting very bad in Montreal. The West Island is much safer and more relaxed. Bonaventure metro station has a lot of characters inside and outside around it. I prefer taking the train and bus to the West Island to get away from the downtown chaos haha
Thank you very much!
sorry it is what happened when you chose justin trudeau and valerie plante
even west island is currently a mess
6:00 is that a special REM opus holder? Did you get it during the inauguration?
Yep exactly haha
There is no accessible link, sad😢
Yeah I heard about that.
Hi! Thanks for the video. Where do you get your ticket from if transferring from the 747 bus? Does one require an additional ticket?
My pleasure! Usually you can get it on the bus and the ticket is good for 24 hours anywhere in the Montreal Metro, train and bus network.
@@SkyOfTheUniverse thanks for the reply! So does the ticket from the 747 work on the REM line as well?
Only from Central Station to Île-des-Sœurs which is Zone A
@@SkyOfTheUniverse 🙂
Is there an way directly from Place Bonaventure?
Yep I just posted a video today on that. It is an exit only so from the REM platform to Bonaventure metro station through Place Bonaventure.
