I agree, I don't remember where I read that the studio fought Michael Jackson to remove Smooth Criminal but he stood his ground! Also, they didn't want to make the video for Thriller he had to finance it himself... I bet there are many other stories like that around of artists who had no choice but to give in!

She said she was so excited until Colonel Tom Parker called her. He said if Elvis recorded it, they also wanted half of her publishing rights. Parker didn't realize Dolly is a very smart business woman, so she said no. She said she cried all night because she really wanted to hear Elvis sing her song. Parker was speaking for himself more than Elvis and he got a bigger cut of earnings than most managers. Then, of course, Whitney Houston made a monster hit of the song, and Dolly happily skipped to the bank. Also, Elvis was popular all over the world, but never got to perform live in other countries because Parker was afraid to fly. He always insisted that he was to be wherever Elvis performed. Also, Elvis got some good movie offers, but if Parker said no, then he turned them down.

I live only thirty miles from Miami and Barry and met Maurice at Jimmies diner and he was so unaffected and loved his fans. Well their producer Arif Mardin had the great ear to know that the stomps made at Maurice's home garage were better than anything he could deliver in a world renowned studio and that they were indeed integral to the song.
