ah yes, the proper way to launch a Z3. nex time can we have a couple of sand bags in its boot? maybe pull out a couple of ignition coils as well, just for good measure? great vid, loved it!
It would be a better comparison if the Z3 had the four cylinder engine.

Got a z3 myself, absolutely love it. Still when I drive it I think how cars like the Z ,mx5 and more are becoming increasingly special as more modern cars, despite having unreal performance, lack a certain something that I want in a car

There is no comparison even by today's standards. A modern-day Miata versus a twenty-three-year-old 3.0 Z3 still puts out ALOT more hp&torche.... and then there is the m version of the Z3 which puts out 315 HP.

I actually replaced the front poly LCA bushings with OEM Mazda rubber units just before selling the car to you (unless you changed back to poly). Just FYI :)

Turn the Z's ASC off! You can then actually do a proper launch without bogging. My Z does 4k launches without a hitch.

Will disengaging the ASC on the Z3 help with the launch?
Yes, it definitely should help. The problem then will be controlling the wheel spin and putting the power to the ground.
It would make a lot more sense to compare the MX5 NB series with the 1.9 Z3. Seems ridiculous to use a 2.8 litre car against a 1.8 litre MX5.
True. It’s all in good fun, this is the Z3 we have available so we went with it.

Why didn't you turn off the Traction Control for the BMW? Is easy to do.
Did not think of doing it in the moment, we did however re-run the race in the bonus episode with the TC off.

Yea, it has the cat removed and a free flow exhaust, its a bit raspy.

@@MDvanDyk the borla exhausts sound amazing, they are louder than stock but really clear, they have a nice deep rasp to them too, but remain clear. They are excellent in my opinion.
Z3 needs a better driver, as an owner of both an NB MX-5, and a facelift BMW Z3 2.5, the Z3 will out launch, and out accelerate the NB every time (with competent driver). If traction control was the problem it takes 2 seconds to turn it off.
