10:46 I think the bed is so high because next doors bed is under it to save space
So... lemme get this right...
For £29 a night, you get a noisy, sweaty coffin that looks like it came from Wickes?
For £43 a night, you get sweaty shipping container with Blade Runner vibes?
For £112 a night, you get a train sleeper compartment for tall people with a crappy bed?
Yeah.... think I'll just take my chances with a Travelodge. Thanks for taking one for the team, Ed!
And, as a bonus, Covid!
"What would my dream capsule look like?" *turns it into a hotel room*
Pretty much 😂
Looks like the premier inn hub hotels.
The first one looked like a slumlord's idea of a capsule hotel
The purple of the gatewick just makes it feel like a dystopian Premier Inn, where they would have a robotic Lenny Henry behind the front desk
It's kind of funny how the simple addition of inexpensive things like different coloured lights and a fancy fan control immediately makes someone feel as if the accommodation is more luxurious!
But he was uncomfortably hot in the first pod, and still a bit warm in the second even with the ventilation on full, so the ventilation really was useful.
For the one in Gatwick, I think the bed is so high is because you got the "top bunk" so to speak, the room next to you will get the "bottom bunk".
That wasn't a breakfast it was more like a kids pack lunch 😂
Fair play, the first ad read I’ve sat through and not skipped forward 😂
GET IN
Same as
@@EdChapman23: You smashed it Ed, great format.
It's like sleeping in an MRI machine, but with higher amounts of radiation.
😅
Some see and have also proposed the capsule hotel concept as a solution to the housing crisis because "they would be the future of rental housing" and "rents for smaller apartments would be more affordable" and "tenants currently want smaller apartments." However, I believe that living in rented capsule apartments is not healthy for people and mental health, because capsule hotels are not meant for permanent living, but for temporary overnight stays. And that's why I'm afraid of the plans to build rental apartments for the poor and students with a capsule hotel concept.
yes, are the mega rich queuing up for capsule apartments? no? then you know it's probably shit. you are right. it's just about profit.
Instead of copying capsule hotels, what we (as in countries like the UK, USA, Australia etc with housing problems) should be doing is copying those tiny apartments they have in Japan.
Having seen many CZcams videos showing off such apartments I think they (if they did them properly) would be great for people who don't need a lot of space and don't own a lot of stuff.
@@jfwfreo If the building costs can be kept low. In Finland, we tried mini-apartments and built a few apartment buildings with 10 and 15 square meter apartments as a test. But the rents of these mini-apartments rised so high that no one rents them for 700-900 euros a month, when you can rent a 30-square-meter apartment for 500 euros. Even the marketing of mini-apartments as luxury didn't attract residents to move into them.
Sounds like some Tory nonsense to me
I dunno who is paying £100+ to stay in a coffin when they can just go to a hotel.
To be fair he didn't pay £100+ to stay in the coffin; third room doesn't compare to the first one. And airport hotels are very expensive so £112 is one of the cheapest rate. You pay for the convenience.
This is true, but Crawley is a very short train journey from Gatwick and trains run late. You can find relatively affordable hotels there - much less than the airport.
Last time I stayed at the Yotel it was only £59 ("proper" hotels being £150.) T'was ideal if you had an early flight. Wouldn't spend £112 on it though.
You made the sponsorship actually engaging and funny and relevant to the video well done lol
Might be interesting to go back in the winter and see what the temperature is like then
Waking up in the middle of the night forgetting for a few seconds where you were - capsule accommodation, stuff of nightmares!
I thought id seen it all with the knife and fork for food but an APPLE 😂😂😂 great video again bud keep it up.
I stayed at the Yotel in Heathrow a few years ago. If this one's anything like that one, the bed is that high because the stack these slightly higher up or lower down to maximise space. Someone will be sleeping in another bed just under yours. Their room will be at a lower level, so they're not sleeping on the floor or anything but it will make that room a bit more 'accessible' for non-youths.
Ed just out here pissing people off cutting an apple with knife and fork 😂
A vision of a swan in a puddle saying ‘better get a Travelodge’ just popped into my mind while watching this. 😅
I watched loads of videos of Japanese capsule hotels (and train sleeping compartments) a couple of years ago. (They're relaxing, don't judge me! 😂) And if I'd had to guess what a British version would be like, the first one you stayed at was definitely that!
£29 a night to sleep in a glorified coffin lol
Honestly, the cost of London hotels, that is still not bad lol.
Aye. I'd rather sleep in a tent.
You could sleep in a washing machine at a laundromat and be more comfortable. This is very funny. You have me hooked.
That first one looks like a bloody dogs kennel been lobbed together with some cheap ass mdf... 😐😐😐😐
😂😂😂
They wouldn't allow dogs to stay in there!
@@EdChapman23 :')
@@EdChapman23 The first one was made out of PLYWOOD, not MDF. You kids don't seem to realise how expensive plywood is nowadays. But yeah it looked like shit lol.
what a dystopian nightmare
Delightfully dystopian
there are five lights lol
“The naughty chair”
Thanks for the laughs.
"I'll have the Bela Lugosi suite, please!"
5:14 Full of Gregg’s Sausage Rolls 😂
The first one was basically a dog kennel with a mattress.
A memory foam mattress though 😍
The first one literally did look like a coffin! Who eats an apple with a knife & fork😂😂😂 ed you legend!
How else would you eat an apple?
I believe Karl Pilkington eats Oranges 🍊 in the bath.... great minds
He's a trendsetter
The last one didn't look too bad but wouldn't pay that price 😂
you need to try the Premier inn Hub Hotels see what they are like
I’ve never slept in one and now don’t want to 😂
There is no way in hell, I'd stay in any of them. Props to you for doing it.
If I wasn't claustrophobic when I went in one of those, I would be when I came out!
"There's a skid mark in the toilet and it isn't even mine!" That had me proper cocking misen laughing mate. 😂
I love the whole capsule idea. They just need to get it right.
The warmth would put me off though.
Good vid and most random breakfast 🤣
First one was a coffin for living people😂
I had an anxiety attack just watching the first one. I am not mentally ready for a capsule hotel.
Absolutely loved this, and by coincidence I stayed in cabin no. 28 at Gatwick earlier this week but just on a minimum 4 hour layover. But I had a low bed. It was also bloody freezing in there. But fun! As for having a plunge pool in your dream cabin, LOL, you legend! ❤❤❤
Fantastic video as always Ed.
You soon put the shower gel amd shampoo in their place!
I love your honesty, and the fact you are so humorous without even trying!
Thank you, and keep them coming x
I stayed in a Yotel in Schiphol between flights. One of the best night's sleep I ever had. I had a bottom bunk though...
didn't even know we had this in the netherlands lol
haven't been to amsterdam in ages though
I stayed at a capsule hotel in Kyiv Ukraine. Great experience.
It looked a bit like the first one in this video (wooden) , but built a bit better.
No fan , but the temperature inside the whole building was perfect.
All in , it was $12 USD for the night
Would happily stay there again.
This was horrific, I'll have nightmares, now. The price of the Gatwick one is approaching a "normal" hotel. Glad to see you eating actual food.
You randomly popped up on my recommended, and I am glad I clicked on the video.
You are super funny and have a cool style to your editing/storytelling. Good job. You got a new subscriber 😊
For the price, I would pick the middle one if it had a better air conditioner. The airport one was definitely the nicest, especially with the private toilet & shower, but I'm not sure it's worth it unless you need to be at the airport for some reason. They missed a trick by not offering that freeze-dried astronaut ice cream though 😂
They're an upgrade on a bed in a hostel dorm, I probably would stay in them on that basis
I'm having an anxiety attack just watching this
Love this channel great video as always ❤
Thank you!
Your comedic timing in this one was extra on point 😂 you're awesome
Gracias 😊
The last one was like afirst class airplane or train experience and your humour was very funny 😂
Great video Ed.
Ive been interested in these capsule hotels since i saw Clive James stay in one, when he visited Japan. 😊Kx
You charmer you! .....The apple cutting was my fave scene 🔪🍎👌
Great videos Ed! 😊
ed is back with the bangers ‼️🙌 love you ed, mate you’re so comedic and you really do have talent and funny sense to make me come back to watch more :) love you man keep it up
Cheers!
@@EdChapman23got you man! keep em coming, you’ve got the goods for making comedy and laughs :)
There’s one in Edinburgh as well the code co living
@15:36 that lip pop had me crying hahaha love it
Hi Ed I have only just found this channel in last month. Absolutely loving it going through all your old stuff
£ coming your way 😉 I found this video very interesting. I did prefer the last one as it had the toilet and shower in the room I'm a very light sleeper so no windows is excellent. Anyway keep up the good work thanks dan👍
You should stay in the shipping container hotel next! More of Ed being a guinea pug! Haha.
hey ed if you're ever flying out of gatwick (or just fancy trying it) check out bloc hotel! similar to a capsule but a little bigger with runway views
When you couldn't get up onto the 4 ft bed in the 2nd hotel and then discovered the step, that was hilarious 😂
When you were reading the labels on them bottles you gave off A Broud in Japan vibes when he reads terrible Japanese English... 😆 😂
"where do they think we are"? We're not actually on a real space station. 😂. You are funny mate 😂
For the first one, me and my partner actually stayed there the day before this was uploaded, the guys there were absolutely lovely and sorted out our issue with the fan since ours didn’t work either. Very clean, lovely common area. It is VERY noisy though. And only for a single person, but me and my partner fitted in that small capsule all night 😂
This one’s gonna be a banger in the algorithm mate… I can feel it in my water 🙏🎉
🤞
The Gatwick one looks useful if you have a very early flight. Thanks for this, i am planning a holiday & it;s useful to know
Basically what we have learnt is don't book a capsule hotel in the summer.. haha Fun Video!
You earned a sub with that 20 second ice cream interlude 😂
GET IN!
Amazing video ed
After seeing the first one .... I've got some MDF here and a couple of stools. All I need are some mattresses and I can build my own hotel! Have to make sure not to paint or decorate it to keep the same vibe though.
Just walked past a couple mattresses on my way back from the shop. Jobs a good un!!!
You were correct. 20 seconds of eating Ben and jerrys cookie dough was funny.
Actually I've got a fairly early flight at Gatwick in about a month. That room looks OK for a cheaper option for that area, no frills. No TV either though, sadly.
Mind you, now I've looked online it does say the standard rooms come with a smart TV.
There is a TV, not sure about it being a smart one though didn't try
“Staying in the most expensive council house” next Ed !?
That spoon rant is like James May’s rant about the wooden coffee splinters on Graham Norton years back hahaha
Are wooden ice cream spoons not normal in the UK?
In the US , we grew up with those spoons included in ice cream cups.
Well, at least those of us old enough to remember life before smartphones. 😄
@@ARK613 only with us imported products
I've stayed at the first place several times and it's so cheap and convenient. They provide free ear plugs and it's completely dark, so I always sleep through the night. Yes it's small, but it's a bit like sleeping in a tent really, but there's electricity.
not too good if you have to get up in the night for a wee-I'm quite old-ha ha
Haha let's get you toilet trained Susan
So funny climbing up the 4ft bed not figuring out the step 🤣🤣🤣
Got there eventually 😅
I couldn't cope with no windows 😮
Reminds me of that one time I forgot to get a hotel, I just slept in the truck, same amount of room.
Class video as usual ed keep up excellent work your doing, top channel
Cheers Gareth!
Oh Ed, you're so brilliant ❤
Gracias
I do enjoy your content!
that dream capsule pod is less a capsule and more a room
I’d put forward the Shark Hotel at Thorpe Park as a capsule hotel. They’re marketed as cabins, but 2 people staying there is a nightmare. One has to stay on the bed so the other can move around the ‘cabin’ freely. Don’t know how people manage with kids as well in there.
You’ve also got the Star Gazing pods at Alton Towers.
Stayed in capsule hotels in Kuala Lumpur and Singapore before and they were perfectly fine.
Also stayed in 1 star basic hotels in Sydney and just this week in Girona. Room was basically wide enough for a small dog to lie down. Literally with both you could hear traffic or someone snoring in the next room. Give me a capsule any time.
BIG UP TOWER HAMLETS MY HOME 😭
When I next fly out of and in, to Gatwick, I may stay at the Mission Control as it looks decent, just hope I don't fall out of the bed. The second looked okay but the heat would mean I wouldn't sleep well. Great video and content.
My claustrophobia could never lol
Entering video or quality journalism… the line has been blurred by one man
Adding a fully functioning kitchen into your..mini capsule..did make me laugh a lot .......Martin...bristol
😂
The knife and fork for the apple 😂. Pure irritation shot for the comments that. Class.
I'm glad someone gets it 😂
Oh! I didn't know that they are in Britain too now. I suggested that it might help solve the income and housing crisis for young people, years ago, after I saw my first video about capsule hotels in Japan.
Your like a ginger Alan Partridge and I'm so glad I found you 😂😂
Can literally get a full fry up and a cuppa for 6 pound where I am 😂😂🤦♀️
You good bro,keep it up.
That tap its like a water cannon
The ginger ninja is back.
This is too funny I literally JUST stayed at the Cosmos Capsule and now this is on my feed 🤣 The code to the door into the building didn’t work 😅 they fixed it 20 mins later but I was concerned for coming back that evening as their help WhatsApp stops at 9pm 😂🙈 Thankfully it was fine. I agree though, although there are two fans and I had them on full I was super hot, I think in the winter this would be better for sure. For a cheap nights sleep you can’t really complain though can you, nice to know you had a similar experience to me and I wasn’t just being picky haha 🤣
You left the best feature out of the Gatwick one… the 24hr Greggs which is right next to where you done your summing up of it! And it’s priced like a normal Greggs too
I stayed in the Gatwick one, last week. The price is a rip off, but the bed I thought really comfortable. The shower was good as well.
Wait capsules are a thing in the UK
