that "big spoon" is an old bed walmer. u get some hot coals from the fire and pop it in ur bed to warm the sheets.

That spoon as you referred to was used as a heater to heat the beds back in the Victorian era and the curtains above the bed acted as dust covers, also used in the Victorian era, you made me laugh in this video so much! Plus York is literally an hour away from me, it's a beautiful town.

watched justed years ago after jackmate shouted you out and wondered why you never were more popular, good to see you have reinvented the channel and finally getting recognition!
That long spoon like thing is a Victorian bedwarmer. People used to fill it with hot coal and stick it under the blanket for a while before going to bed, to make the bed warm. Similar to a modern hot water bottle but probably a lot warmer.
The bloke in the picture is King Edward VII. He was a notorious womanizer and there is a suspicion he might have been Jack the Ripper. Given the things he did, I can well believe that... that would also explain why the police "never found out who Jack the Ripper was".
Of course there are no ghosts in the hotel you were staying in... that's just the usual tourist trap. A lot of pubs and hotels claim to be haunted to justify charging far more than they should, given what they provide. They make up the backstories themselves. Great job if you can get it...
Speaks volumes about this country that sharing a room with a guy called One-Eyed Jack was actually less scary than the previous accomodation experiences you've had. Old Jack was a bit of a softie really compared to chavs in balacavas trying to burn down your cabin.

Ok so the 2nd roof on the bed was actually to stop spiders jumping down from the ceiling in the early times because y'know...medieval houses were a bit crap so if you were quite posh you'd have "bed roofs"
It was actually due to houses having a thatched roof so all sorts of insects and mice would make their houses in the thatch and the bed cover would stop them dropping onto the bed.
We also have the saying "it's raining cats and dogs" from thatched roofs because cats would hunt mice in the thatch and they would get washed off the roof in heavy rain.

You should do an overnight ghost hunt! You use Ouija boards, spirit machines and group activities from 9pm usually until 3am in a haunted location in the dark

the thing you said looks like a big spoon next to the fire is a bed warmer, back in the day you heated water in it then either kept it at the foot of your bed or rubbed it under the duvet on the sheet to have a warm bed

I stayed in a haunted hotel in York and had to come home a day early as i was so scared, there would be tapping and when i asked it to stop it would but then start a few minutes later and i always felt i was being watched, staying alone didn't help though I'd love to go back.
That was just the owner peeking on you through the 2 way mirror prob
So funny how our natural instinct is to check for ghosts under the bed 😂. Also just being in an uneven house can really mess with your head.
That's true, it makes me feel dizzy when the floor is uneven.
The only reason I can think of for the amount of mirrors in a "haunted" place is mirrors are supposed to be portals for ghosts to come through

That “giant spoon” may be a chestnut roaster. As in the thing you use to roast chestnuts over open fires. Someone would have to confirm, though.

Ghosts aren’t always see through. I have seen them as a mist, lights moving, an orb and full body. Had other experiences of things moving and noises. There is so much lack of knowledge and understanding that causes hostility to those of us who know different. I do other things too that others have seen for themselves to do with it all.

@@connorbosley4431 yes and these experiences weren’t all in my house so your argument doesn’t hold weight. I do things that lots of people don’t understand. I am very aware of what i speak. Carbon monoxide alarms do not move objects in front of your eyes or move them in the next room that you then hear and see. They also do not create mists that move to let you pass them. They also don’t create tennis ball sized orbs that move into a room after going past you to then come out of the room again. None of it scares me. The lights i seen were in a cemetery at night. Different colours and moving away from me or appearing then disappearing (not grave ornaments with lights but conscious entities).

@@Erik-LehnsherrX well i don’t sniff gas. I haven’t had any alcohol for 14 years and never will, never smoked or never done drugs. Just a very aware individual of different realms. Its not like i can see through dimensions with my eyes as its not like that but just visual and auditory experiences, clairaudience, clairvoyance etc and other things. I felt someone staring at me from behind me in the kitchen of an old mansion i lived in. Couldn’t see anything until i seen the orb a few nights later go into the kitchen.
