    Just for full transparency, I also blame teammates even though I shouldn’t. It’s one of those things we all need to work on. Sometimes I can be really hard if you have a few bad games in a row or you lose because a teammate has missed an easy save, but end of the day just have to say allgood and move on. And trust me I’m not great at this sometimes so take that as a direct attack on you low ranks

      There are levels to it. Yeah, if your team-mates are purposefully throwing, actually trolling, the amount of responsibility you can take is low.
      A problem I see, though, is people accusing a teammate of genuinely, purposefully trolling after a big mistake or two, when sometimes somene is just having a bad game, which happens to everyone now and then.
      The point is even when you're paired with a teammate that's lower-rated than you, or is having a really bad game, still trying to think of what you can do better. Losing a game and it being glaringly obvious that my teammate with 72 Points was about as helpful as a Lv. 5 Magikarp doesn't mean I played a perfect game either.

    I am c2 and one thing I like to do when I get scored on is thinking what was it that lead to being scored on? If my teammate makes a mistake while being in a 1v1 then I think about what lead to making it a 1v1? It usually is due to me losing the ball and even if it is not my fault, I usually let it go. Positivity is a valuable strength in rocket league. Being negative and obsessing over one mistake clouds your mind and leads to bad decision-making

    I find its best to just focus on myself in each game. I can't control my teammates - heck, I can barely control my car, let alone the ball. What I CAN do, though, is extend a little trust to everyone in the lobby that they're all trying to win in their own way, and try to position myself to support my side.
    The blame game isn't helpful in the end. While it's important to take in the lessons from any given situation, it's not really helpful to think "they should have done this; should have done that; how did they miss?" in a game where even the pros are demonstrably fallible. Maybe it's just a me thing, but I'd rather celebrate any goal, even if it's on me, even if it's dumb...then I go again. Even better than before.

    I’ve asked myself these questions plenty of times. At the end of the day I keep it simple: in 1s it’s literally just freeplay with another person . In 2s or 3s even when I play with my friends who know I take the game serious I either have to be the reliable third man to control everyone else’s pace or be the aggressive first man most of the time to keep enough possession that gives my team opportunities to maybe mess up or miss open nets

    • @hereandnow3156
      @hereandnow3156 Před 10 měsíci

      One thing to consider is that taking those roles also means you're covering up for your teammates mistakes which makes it a lot less likely they'll be able to improve themselves. You guys might keep getting better as a team but as you guys keep going up in rank you'll have to cover more and more for their mistakes. If you can find a way to guide them towards rotating correctly it will take a lot of pressure off of you in the long run.

  • @nahvae

    For people saying it’s impossible to not blame teammates in the lower ranks:
    Answer is def in the middle I think. In almost every situation you can blame yourself and think of what you could have done differently. But you also can’t control the outcome of every game no matter how good you are. So just focus on self improvement and having fun.
    Your rank is a product of your skill, not the other way around and talent takes time to build. So be patient with yourself ❤ happy grinding everyone

    • @hpesoj00
      @hpesoj00 Před rokem +6

      Yes. Obviously some games your teammates are to blame, and some games you are to blame. But you cannot control your teammates, and even if they are playing worse than you, you are still making 101 mistakes every game that you could be noticing and trying to fix. Blaming them is unproductive.
      But like you suggest, this is just the case for specific games. Some people think they are stuck at a particular rank because they keep getting matched with bad teammates. These people need to stop deluding themselves if they want to improve. On average, everyone gets the same quality of teammates. Your rank is 100% a product of your skill, and has literally nothing to do with the skill of your teammates.

    • @devinmessmer9632
      @devinmessmer9632 Před rokem

      @@hpesoj00 On average everyone SHOULD get the same quality of teammates but this also ignores smurfing. People who decide to play with a friend who is smurfing is unfair for the other team. and the team with the smurf has a really good teammate. If someone plays with their friend who (let's just say is ssl) in diamond often then it completely throws the average. Your rank is 80% a product of your skill and 20% of your luck. Now you are 100% right about how if your teammate makes mistakes it's fine if you are good enough. But you can never control the other team, just like how you can't control your teammate.

    The way to combat the blame game for me is to hop on one’s right after a bad match, sometimes I do really horrible and I know I was the one messing up more then likely. Either way I end up learning more and getting better from it. Ones takes away the crutch of blaming someone for your own mistakes, it also forces you to utilize mechanics to win rather then just be flashy. It also humbles you a lot. I went from hard stuck in high plat low diamond, to champ in 2s and 3s just by learning more in ones and using it to be more competitive in my other game modes.

    Love the emphasis on 2. I try to be as unbiased as I can during matches and own up to my mistakes as often as I can. I know how frustrating it can be for someone who is really trying to do well but still gets criticized negatively by their tm8. It doesn't make anyone play better. Even if you realize your tm8 is not playing well, the most you can do is MAYBE provide some constructive criticism, but even that can be uncalled for as it is unsolicited. Kinda wack how this has been mentioned in multiple youtube videos and I still come across the most toxic players. The best games I've played were when both teams were supportive of each other which allowed each of us to show our true potential. Lose or win, we knew we played an amazing game. There are too many possibilities in this game like Thano said; sometimes a loss is just the way she goes.

    I've gotten myself to C1 alone and trying to carry friends through the depths of plat/diamond. I will say that I have seen C1s and C2s have way better mechanics than me a lot but the consistency I have developed with shooting and power on the ball supersedes their ability to flip reset and musty and such. This video is perfect advice for someone who wants to rank up. If you want great mechanics, make sure you are extremely consistent at easy shots. I was very inconsistent at one point and I drilled for like a week straight of shots I kept missing and now I'd say even after my extensive break from the game, I'm still mostly on for those easy shots. Consistency > flashy.

  • @MisterMondeller

    Great and informative video man!
    I think most players notice, that when they are off the game for a while, to then return and play much better, cleaner, and with a much broader overview of all situations and plays than before. This is because the mind needs reset moments, and if a player is "overplaying" he or she will get kind of 'stuck in a rut' of always playing the same, which is a consequence of a trance state like hypnosis in which the brain is automatically using muscle memory to play, and this to leave out new learned skills and intuitive interventions. Take a break on time.
    I also bet that if pro players wouldn't play or practice at all for a few days before an event, they would increase their performance significantly. (test?)

    Can 100 % confirm those points. I hit GC in like 2017 and kind of started spending less and less time in the game (i think about 300-400 hours in the last 4 years). Of course this means my mechanics are kind of lacking in the "flashy"-department. I still hit some nice shots from time to time but i'm definitely washed in this department. I still manage to get GC (GC 2 this season) every season because i have the fundamentals down. If you have a good gamesense then you rarely need to do difficult stuff to win games. I think one very important points the video didn't cover is recoverys. It is so important to be fast after you challenge a ball and don't take years to are back in position with speed. GL to everyone trying to rank up. 🙂

    This is all great stuff! The one small argument i have is relative to the take ownership part - yes people overall blame too much and not recognize where their faults are but you also cant take ownership of everything in your game or life it is kind of arrogant in a way to think that way because you cant control what other people do and sometimes theres nothing you can do about it and you rob other people the opportunity to take ownership of their own mistakes because the truth is sometimes you can do everything right and teammates still botch it and they can do everything right and you botch it because it is in fact a team game (at least 3s) everybody has a role to play, you are not the sole reason for winning nor the sole reason for losing same for.your teammates, they cant take ownership of everything because you also make mistakes, however what you can take ownership over everytime is how you read prepare yourself and respond to things - training, emotions, and what your mindset is, take ownership of what you can control and learn to accept and be aware of what you cant so you can at least find a way to work with it or leave the scenario

He means (as you say at the end there) always looking for what you might have been able to do differently or better in any given play, even when maybe getting scored on was primarily because of the mistake of a teammate.

      The only players close to doing everything right are the pros. If you're playing below pro level, you're not losing games while doing everything right. Every game you play is full of mistakes.
      A lot of the difference between 'good' games and 'bad' games is just facing different opponents. You're making the same mistakes and playing with the same limited skills and habits in your good and bad games.

    • @jorwegs
      @jorwegs Před rokem +1

      @7dayspking yes true, although pros do make mistakes, if they didn't their games would never end, they just make far less of them and much less often and have the capacity to recover quickly, I wasn't talking about playing a perfect entire game that is unreasonable I was talking about specific instances of plays within a game that could result in a goal, a 1st man player could challenge just fine but if 2nd and 3rd man are off doing their own thing well it's not really 1st man's "fault" but he could say that it is just to play the psychological game and keep moral, but to your point if players that continue in bad habits but dont actually recognize what they are and keep saying my fault falsely like need boost when really it was their positioning (ie cheating way up front as 3rd man) you won't improve if you don't correctly take ownership of what actually could be improved or is the actual cause of the "mistake", again there is different contexts all of this can be applied, if you're solo queuing 3s that is much different than having a team you know

    • @7dayspking

      @@jorwegs We can't control how the others in the lobby play. If your plays rely on teammates you haven't practiced with being in specific positions, doing certain things or having specific skills. They're not appropriate plays.
      1st man in your scenario should really look back through his replay and consider if this 'good challenge's was appropriate or necessary in a lobby with strangers or helpful to him winning. Sounds like it wasn't, that makes it a mistake that can be changed in later games. The only 'coreect' moves are the ones that make you win. It doesn't matter if CZcams tutorials tell you 'this is a good or correct play'. If it's not leading success in game, it's a bad play. You're the only guy on the field you can control,stop making plays that rely on things out of your control. They're not good plays, it's your fault.
      Matches and gameplay happens faster than we can really think. Blame's irrelevant, everyone's just repeating their ingrained habits. But if you want to get better, you can check your replay after the game and deliberately change your habits for the better and learn new skills. It's not about 'morale'. That doesn't matter. If you're the only guy from the lobby who checks that replay. You're the only one wholl learn from that game. Everyone else will just repeat the same crap habits in the next game.

      but if you start to spiral it's time to take a break, stick to training or playing with lower/same rank friends in QP..
      Just keep in mind "staying in the same rank" is not being hardstuck, it means you're evolving at a steady pace, the game is ever changing, from pro level to the lowest depth of ranked.
      Constantly butting head against the "skill ceiling" and improving faster than others in your rank can be a tough nut.

    I think the weirdest thing about ranked is people climb doing what works so you'll end up playing against many styles for instance you could play against people who just try to out speed the opponents always booming ball away or maybe a team that does the opposite trying to control the game and so they try to keep possession and slow/speed play whenever they like some players just like playing slow and letting you do the work for them in the end climbing I would say is seeing what your teammate can do and playing in a manner that helps bring out the best in them

I can play perma- 3rd man when my teams chasing but I won’t always win those 2v1s or be able to block every counter attack. That or the oppose side where the opponents get up a goal or 2 early and my mates barely want to leave the back half. Yes I’ll center the ball in front of a open without looking and when realize no one’s there to follow me up, which is bad on my part but worst when your trying to come back and your mates lose all aggression needed to apply pressure.

    I would like to say, if you are struggling to look at your own gameplay critically then one thing that helped me was to start helping lower ranked friends/family in their gameplay. Watch their replays or live gameplay with them and give them tips on how they could have better positioned or what they could be training. As you get better at looking critically (but constructively) on others gameplay, it starts to get a lot easier and more natural to know what's going wrong in your own.
    You don't have to be an RL god to help someone get better or to have some of the skills that all coaches have. They are learned behaviours so get learning!
