I take Greyhound buses all the time in Canada and I can tell you there are NO security checks and NO metal detectors of any kind. I could board a bus carrying a chainsaw or a high powered rifle and never be detected.

I work with inmates who served time at the federal penitentiary. My goal is to try to reintegrate them back into society. What is a shame is there are 70-80 other people on the bus and they did nothing about it. Kinda like 911 with few terrorists with box cutters and the other hundreds of passengers stood by and did nothing about it!
What I can't understand is how no one on the bus did anything to stop this heinous act. You can bet your bottom dollar if I witnessed something like this, I'd stop it however I could. The exact same crime occurred in 1955 on a bus in Eastern Oregon. Only it was even worse, with the killer decapitating the bus driver, causing the bus to plunge over a steep bank and killing everyone on board except the killer. The man then beheaded himself. It was in all the papers at the time.

Why are people semi complaining about this being a 10 year old caae? It's totally relevant. 1). Because a person who loses their life that way should never be simply forgotten about. His story should live on.
2). Reminds us all to be vigilant. Maybe if he was awake he could have been able to somehow defend himself. Would have maybe been cut, but being asleep with headphones on? He never had a chance. 10, 20, 50 years ago, history, the past, or whatever you want to call it, is always relevant. We can always learn something from the past.
It's stories like this that make me appreciate my social anxiety. (I barely ever go anywhere and could never even accidentally doze off among strangers)

I wouldn't really choose to do so, if it wasn't for a pair of brains that insist on making sure everything I try to do is unenjoyably uncomfortable to the point of physical nausea caused by the anxiety. I know it's not logical, even often stupid to be so stressed out over trivial things... but for the past decade I've tried to work on it and... it just persists.
Sucks, but.. I'll try to enjoy my life in the ways I can.

Good point, but something told him to kill that man. There's no way he just thought "I'm going to kill this guy, behead this guy, and eat parts of this guy's body for absolutely no reason." I had heard about the greyhound murder but i was extremely grieved to find out from my mother in a phone call that it was Tim.. He was like a big brother to me.. we played football, played video games, and just hung out.. Tim Mclean dated my sister Jessica when they were 16 and has been a dear friend ever since.. Not realistic. The walkway is only one man wide. So it is only a 1v1 with first guy in line. Gets slashed. Next guy's turn. Even assembling that many people takes too long.
He'd been stabbed multiple times before they realized what was going on... It was far too late. Jumping in would only turn it into a massacre.
So a bus of people and this young man dies imagine what that young men was thinking as everyone ran off the bus. Five men could have saved that young men.

He did everything he could. He disabled the bus so this guy couldn't drive off, which he was trying to do, and a trucker stopped too, and handed out weapons to those standing around (wrenches, etc) The driver and others kept the killer on the bus until police arrived at the scene.

I work with inmates who served time at the federal penitentiary. My goal is to try to reintegrate them back into society.
What is a shame is there are 70-80 other people on the bus and they did nothing about it. Kinda like 911 with few terrorists with box cutters and the other hundreds of passengers stood by and did nothing about it!

In a similar situation (and I pray to God that I never encounter anything quite this ghoulish in my life) I really would like to think that I'd have tried to help the victim....at least before his head was cut off because when the maniac actually severed it and then started waving it around for people to look at it was like he was mocking the victim and taunting those watching to just come and try to stop him!

I agree that Mclean more than likely would have died, but he might have found comfort in someone trying to be there for him and that there's some good left in the world. I find it disgusting that so many people ran, and it's even more disgusting that people on these posts are actually defending cowardice.

The exact same crime occurred in 1955 on a bus in Eastern Oregon. Only it was even worse, with the killer decapitating the bus driver, causing the bus to plunge over a steep bank and killing everyone on board except the killer. The man then beheaded himself. It was in all the papers at the time.
