It's even more healthy. This Series panders way too much on traumas, it's unwatchable to Kiddos after "Happiness is" from Season 2 hiatus. Cass is cancelled from her true love for Raps, romantic or unconditional. Fanfics give her this right, with more sense, if it's not with shame.

I wouldn't say that it panders to trama. Heck I would say that it kinda sweeps some of them under the rug sometimes compared to the source material. While I'm not going to say burn canon in favor of fanon there are somethings that can be further explored or what ifs that would be interesting to see done.

True that, might look some up for this series later, there’s some legitimate cool plot lines too bad it’s kinda skewered in Canon, so Fanfiction is the next best thing to make a story with potential into what could’ve been and even fix the story, in an alternative timeline.

Yeah but now Disney hiring people to make fanfiction in The twisted tail series we shall really what if scenarios on Disney movies but what makes this very interesting is tangle books description watch once was mine which this book literally describes Rapunzel having destructive powers that comes from the Moon her parents giving her to mother gothel and the new original character with Flynn so first of all did the writer of this book need to see if he's in the side to do this based off of the series or is it just a coincidence that this just has to have Moon Palace in the book the world this book be connected to the series or not

      Indeed
There's one fanfic (on Archive of Our Own) called "darkness exists to make light truly count" which is a really good read. It's basically an AU where Varian and Rapunzel grew up alongside each other in the same tower.
To be clear, I'm not the author of the story, just recommending a good story to read

I feel like a lot of Cass’s betrayal would have made a lot more sense if instead of being Gothel’s daughter she would be the Dark Kingdom’s real princess. It would’ve given her an actual claim to the Moon Stone as her destiny and left Eugene’s backstory alone.

Well with Gothel being the original villain it does give Cass a reason in that she was abandoned. Hence the waiting in the wings reprise. Which she learns from finding the last shard of the mirror proving Zhan Tiri lied.

    Rant about Varian:
Varian’s a kid. He’s a child, a teenager. His father is dying in amber and he wants to prove he can _DO_ something to help him, that’s why he does awful actions. This is one of the most effective and impactful ways to may me sympathize with the villain, because he’s a child. He’s around 14-15! For the whole time in the season one finally I was yelling “TALK TO HIM!” Because that’s what everyone needed to do. Of course, he’s dangerous, but when he had A MENTAL BREAKDOWN IN FRONT OF RAPUNZEL, I THOUGHT, _THOUGHT,_ THAT THEY’D AT LEAST TALK TO HIM. BUT THAT DIDN’T HAPPEN. It pissed me off, I wish they’d _talk_ to him.

As soon as I learned the reason for Cassandra's betrayal, I *immediately* thought up a better one that's close to what you came up with: What Cass saw in that room was a glimpse of the future--specifically, Rapunzel being destroyed by the combined energies of the Moonstone and Sundrop. Normally, Cass would just tell Rapunzel about it, but due to recent events, she knows that Rapunzel wouldn't actually listen to her, so she kept quiet and took the Moonstone before Rapunzel could, getting corrupted by its power (and possibly possessed by Zhan Tiri) as a result.

well that's about past, but both eugene and rapunzel got their very lucky moments to shine (rapunzel turned out to be a princess and eugene found her AND turned out to be a prince) which they to be honest didn't really work for.. Everyone around gets those moments (even Hookfoot although he DID work for it but it's still luck) and cassandra doesn't. Everyone's lifes go from bad (or not that bad) to pretty good while hers stays mediocre. She's working her ass off to get to her dreams (and then an ex-criminal gets her dream job BEFORE her just because he accidentally banged a princess) waiting (in the wings) for her lucky moment but it doesn't come. She gets an opportunity to lead the guards in the end of the first season but it leads to nothing as she gets off on an adventure woth a princess who trusts a random lady she met hours ago more than she trusts cassandra. And it builds up till cassandra injures her hand because of all this nonsense and HAS TO RELEARN SWORDFIGHTING AGAIN (because she still works her ass off while princess just doodles her as a villain thanks i guess) And then while everyone accidentally got royal parents her mother turned out to be a hated villain... By this point it's not surprising that she decided that her lucky moment isn't coming and all her hard work leads to nothing so she just tried another method.

@@user-pv4lo7yp5h I honestly think that, if that's what the writers wanted us to understand then they should have pushed the line even harder... because we don't get to see much of her effort that often... like it's there for 2 or 3 épisodes but the rest of the show she's just seen as badass, not "underrated" (ok that because rapunzel can't be seen as a bad person but still my point is still valid)
Plus I don't like the morality behind her arc. Like it's ok to become a bad person because you don't get the glory you're looking for. (I say it's "ok" because this part of her rebellion is never point as bad, she always explains her thoughts in songs and even if SHE's pointed as the vilian, her reasons are never pointed as bad) We have to empathize with a person who's that much searching for glory that she's willing to sacrifice everything she has, and has build because... she has no luck ? I really don't like this idea, like... the world doesn't work like that... Your choices are what make your dreams comes true... If she wanted glory, she could have, I don't know... LEAVE CORONA?
Like a said previously she chose to stay x)
I know it really sound like the boring "american dream" but it's not, at least I don't think of it that way (because I'm french btw if you missed my mistakes xS)

Well Cass had a whole complex going because of Gothel. Which Zhan Tiri made worse. Seeing as Cass couldn't have been more than five it makes sense why it would affect her so much. Especially with the lines from the
      "Waiting in the Wings Reprise".
*Guess by now I ought to know my place*
*Do your humble duty with a smile on your face*
*Mother knows how much I love her,*
*but she's always doing other things*
So I'll keep waiting in the wings
      I craved so much
And yet I kept on waiting
      One glance, one-touch
And I just kept on waiting
*And when it came, it came with strings*
So I kept waiting in the wings
Besides that she only had one scene where she was front and center before that arc. During "Ready as I'll ever Be" when she was leading the guards. Which was addressed in "Waiting in the Wings"
My chances come and then I blink and they're gone
      Always overlooked unfairly
While pretending that it barely stings
But it stings, yes it stings
      And I'll shed no tears
      I'll only keep on waiting
      If no one cheers
Well, I can keep on waiting
      Who cares how loud
      The silence rings
You'll find me waiting in the wings
Eugene pretty much wrote his father off and wanted nothing to do with him until Rapunzel talked him into it. Raps is pretty much the only one who came out of the ordeal of dealing with Gothel nearly unscathed. Being the sundrop is why she's still able to be so chipper rather than developing a chip on her shoulder like Cass.

Actually there was the episodes "Cassandra vs Eugene" and "Big Brothers of Corona". In both they hint at Gothel. It's simply that Cass isn't a touchy feely kind of character. All in all it was a representation of two sides of the same situation. Gothel subjected both to the same thing. But Rapunzel is the sundrop. Which is why she's still able to be so chipper. While Cass was not only subjected to that same isolation in that cottage and Gothel's narcissistic nature but also abandoned as well. At first Raps went back and forth about being overjoyed by being away from the tower to worrying about disobeying Gothel. Now imagine that for Cass. She craves that attention from Gothel as her mother but with only that music box serving as any indication that Gothel "cared" she had no choice but to keep hoping until it was ripped away permanently.

I feel like Cassandra's betrayal makes sense in the perspective that she's already sick and tired of the princess receiving all the glory and recognition, and she's left waiting in the wings. The biggest slap to the face being that her own mother even treated her that way. Even as a child Cass was cast aside for this literal golden child. We saw how heartbroken she was in that flashback.
But this is also in context of Cass knowing that Gothel was an evil person. She grew up with the yearly reminder of the grief this woman brought to her kingdom, every time the lanterns were released into the sky.
Cass's jealousy is 100% emotional, and not very logical. I guess it depends on you, whether her inferiority issues are enough of a justification to betray her best friend

@@TrueLiesLost The best songs are used to tell the audience a story. The story wanted to tell the audience that Cas was happy and felt she was doing the right thing yes, but it also wanted to convey that she had betrayed Rapunzel and was going to be the bad guy of the season. If they were going to convey her as anti-hero it would have made more sense, but for the story they were telling, the song should have been able to convey both happy triumph and sinister foreshadowing / betrayal. Music is a powerful medium and it was underutilised in this scene.
To contrast, 'Let it go' was originally conceived as a villain song, but it was so triumphant that the story was literally rewritten to make Elsa a heroic character. In this case though I think all they needed to do was change to a minor key or add a little dissonance to the chords whenever Rapunzel was in frame. They could also reduce the backing instrumentation as the song goes on, as if members of the chorus are abandoning Cas in her quest. It would have been good to make her victory seem a little hollow and convey how she's on her own now.

Also I'd like to point out, that in the parts where Cass and Rapunzel are Rapunzel's words are backed with a calm, sweet song, because she's trying to deescalate the conflict, while Cassandra is backed with a heavy sounding electric guitar. A main problem with Cassandra was that she was the main creator’s pet. She became what he wanted her to be, apparently against the advice of storywriters. Meanwhile everyone in the fandom adored Varian, and that pissed him off, so Varian got totally sidelined.
Also, there were supposed to be four seasons, but it was cut by Disney to three after the show had already started, with the third having to be significantly shorter. That’s why the first and second seasons have heaps of filler but the third season is super rushed and leaves much to be desired.
And everyone was salty about that whole Varian’s dad’s note that he writes while getting trapped by the amber. It seems super ultra important at the time. The creator and others hinted that it would be important. Then after he is out of the amber, he’s like “all it said was I’m proud of you lol”. Don’t get the fandom started on Varian’s hair-stripe. Or anything really Varian-related. When it turned into a snake in the finale, it felt like a huge “haha fuck you guys for making a big deal out of this”, and there were so many people raging on the discord server.

This stupid series completely destroyed Flynn's character. They reduced him to the dumb boyfriend side character in favor of Cassandra and gave all the development and emotional scenes to Rapunzel and Cassandra when in the movie it was about Rapunzel and Flynn, and they were completely equal and equally developed. They both saved each other, instead of one person doing all the saving. In the series Rapunzel just does all the saving! Also, in the movie they were dual protagonists and Flynn was just as important as Rapunzel. In the series Flynn is completely sidelined and the trauma he should have is never mentioned. Instead, it’s all about Cassandra. It’s because of frozen, they gave rapunzel a sister and focused only on the sister relationship while dumping down the boyfriend. It’s also because of stupid modern feminism where they always have to portray every man as a weak, stupid Idiot and every woman as a Mary Sue! That’s just turning the sexism around and discriminate men instead of women! I really hate that, Flynn deserves better!
What makes me feel worse about this stupid series is that I listened to the Tangled Songs and Story CD and there the narrator literally says at the end that Flynn mattered more to Rapunzel than anything which is true in the movie but definitely false in this stupid series. There it always seems Like Cassandra Matters more to her than Flynn and that makes the whole ending of the movie unbelievable where she was willing to sacrifice herself Just to save him because she Loved him so much. So it Just makes No logical Sense that she would suddenly Always Put a Person she met afterwards before him If she really loved him as much as in the movie. And I hate that she is such a hypocrite in the series who lets Cassandra Always insult him without saying a Word, keeps secrets from him, draws his face on a punching bag and never even apologizes and rejects his proposals but gets Mad when her supposed true Love for whom she wanted to Go to hell says Something against Cassandra. That is the Most toxic relationship I've ever Seen.
And what I hate about the whole marriage Thing in this context is that they are basically saying that it's Not ok to marry someone whom you deeply and truly Love after a few months but it's OK to try to give up your entire freedom and basically your entire life for someone whom you Just met three days ago. If they Love each other that much that they would do Something Like that after only having known each other for a few days than their Love is so strong and true and then they could and should marry after a Short time Especially considering the time period the movie is Set where they could only truly be together after being married. And If Disney wanted to Show a couple Not marrying so soon they should have taken a different couple than Rapunzel and Flynn because they proved how deeply and truly they Loved each other after a few days and since they almost Lost each other it would make Sense that they wouldn't want to lose more time together after they saw how Short life can be and besides, their Story Takes place in a time where people married early. They should have rather Had Tiana and Naveen marry only after a few years because they dont seem Like they fit very well together and didnt try to die for each other after a few days and furthermore their Story Takes place in the 1920s, Not the 1700s. They would have been perfect for Not marrying immidiately, Not Rapunzel and Flynn who seem like the worst candidates for this in my opinion. And that whole rejecting marriage plotline is the worst Storyline I've ever Seen. They send the Message that marriage is a prison even though you Love each other and that is such a horrible Message. And it's Especially horrible how in the Episode beyond the Corona walls, it seems Like that she never wanted to marry him at the beginning of the Episode which raises the question why the hell she is even still with him If a life with him seems so horrible to her and also why the hell she wouldn't want to marry the man she Loved that much that she wanted to Go to prison for for all eternity in the movie. It Just doesn't make any logical Sense and is inconsistent with the movie and also the Wedding Short where she looked so deeply in Love and so incredible Happy. It Just doesn't make Sense that she would have rejected the proposal before. And whats worse is that in that Episode it seems Like she only changed her mind about marriage because Stalyan wanted him which makes it seem like she only wants him when another girl wants him which is so incredibly toxic. If someone considers marriage as a prison, then that means they are subconsciously thinking about cheating or breaking up! I analyzed this once in school about a book where a guy who considered marriage as a prison in a similar way as Rapunzel in this stupid series, ended up cheating on his girlfriend! And that is precisely what would happen in real life! When someone rejects marriage, the relationship is over!
And I'm pretty Sure the writers of Tangled intended for tangled ever After to Take place shortly after the movie because the little girls of the movie seemed to be the Same age in the Short and Wikipedia also states it was originally intended to Take place immediately after the movie. The series Just doesn't seem believable and seems Like it Takes place in a completely different universe as the movie. And I Just can't consider it Canon because of all These reasons and it's obvious that it was written by someone else than the movie. So, Right now I Just Count it as Not Canon to still be able to watch the movie. If I Had to Count it as Canon, then I Wish Flynn would have stayed dead at the end of the movie and wasnt brought back to life. It would have been a very sad and tragic ending but it would have at least been better than showing such a toxic relationship between two characters who were both trying to sacrifice themselves for each other.

Honestly I thought it would have been more interesting if Eugene had been the one to grab the moonstone and had to face Zhan Tiri in an attempt to protect Rapunzel after learning about what happened to his mother from King Edmund.
Cassandra as she was written was awful, I’ve seen people online come up with better story arcs than the one the show gave her.

I was really disappointed that Eugene was exiled to the background as he was one of my favorite characters. I also wish they had emphasized on his past, his family, and his connection to the dark kingdom. I wish the show has also focused more on the relationship between Varian(still disappointed that he never got his own spin off) and Eugene as they both had connections to the dark kingdom. Eugene being its prince and Varian being the son of a member of the brotherhood(god I wish the brotherhood was explored more. In fact everything involving the dark kingdom should have been explored way more). Also the idea of seeing a dark kingdom led by a moonstone Eugene waring with a Corona led by Rapunzel would have been awesome too bad we won't see that.

For Varian's hair stripe, there was suppose to be a Varian spinoff which was suppose to be his journey to complete something his mother started but didn't come back from and his mothers backstory and I think it would have explained his stripe a little but I think Isaac Carlson's theory was pretty accurate, but we won't get that spinoff because Disney didn't think it would be popular and dropped it.

  • @thatoneowlhousefan8310
    @thatoneowlhousefan8310 Před 2 lety +73

I think it would be a much better storyline if Cassandra found out about her mother being Gothel and fell into a deep state of guilt and anguish. Finding out her mother was Rapunzel’s abuser and the reason she didn’t meet her parents would break her, leading to her stealing the moonstone out of fear of Rapunzel possibly dying or losing herself and causing more pain, especially since she didn’t know she was the daughter of the person who killed her love interest. If Cassandra stole the moonstone to protect Rapunzel, the moment would be much more emotional, also presenting the opportunity for a heartbreaking scene as she fuses with the stone, losing her mind. This guilt and vulnerability will make her a perfect target for the main villain to manipulate her and make her think her actions are helping Rapunzel. Any slip up could cause her to think she’s becoming more like her mother, and this would make the manipulation much more powerful and logical: afraid to lose herself and become the abusive person her mother was, Cassandra is lost in the pattern of hurting others and following Zahn Tere (sorry forgot how to spell their name) in order to prevent becoming her mother. Cassandra becomes so lost, and Rapunzel would be more moved to help her and show her the reality of Zhan Tere’s lies. This would make more sense, since her ‘destiny’ was never connected to the moonstone, it is clear she always wanted to be the hero of her own story, never second best, and her sole purpose aside from this is to protect Rapunzel. THIS is Cassandra’s destiny, showing her dedication to Rapunzel, but also her vulnerability and how Gothel’s behavior affected her as well. Plus, it would leave some bonding room for Eugene and Cassandra, since they share a common interest in keeping Rapunzel safe. It would also provide more logic behind Zhan Tere easily influencing her emotions- kidnapping Varian because of what he did to Rapunzel and her mother, and following along with Zhan Tere’s plan. She would become dependent on Zhan Tere to reassure her that she was being a good person, helping Rapunzel, and straying far from her mother’s path. This would allow Eugene’s destiny to be explored, since he is the most connected to the moonstone apart from his father, and he could be the one to help Rapunzel reunite the stones, since they are together. One idea for a positive incantation for the moonstone would be mental healing or repair, considering the sunstone can physically heal and destroy surrounding beings, plus, the moonstone has been shown to drive others mad and this power could reflect Cassandra’s state of mind when under the influence of Zhan Tere. This would further prove that the stones are indeed opposites, healing and destroying different parts of a being. Sorry this was long, MASSIVE props to anyone who read this far, I just really enjoyed this idea rather than the repetitive and exhausting plot we did get. Great show!

Disney's grown a reputation of using great songs at the wrong time. "Into the Unknown" was sung when Elsa was planning to go somewhere she knew all about, and "Show Yourself" was a duet with a character who specifically told her to hide herself. The series kept bringing up destiny and such but I liked the way the movie did it, that Eugene met Rapunzel by accident and that he was just an orphaned thief. He was interesting and important enough without being a prince for no reason.
I thought it was too cliche so at first I wondered if they were gonna reveal that Eugene wasn't the kings son and that the king only believed that Eugene was his son because they looked alike, but then he could have adopted him or something.

I'm curious about Varian, that's why I've listened to how you talk about him. At first I was totally confused by this drastic change of character, from a sweet little boy to an evil genius. It took me a while to understand that he was young and how horribly he had been treated. When the subject comes and begs for help because his dad is literally dying right now, you probably don't throw him out of the castle and have him run through this snowstorm again to watch his dad die! Come on, it's not wise! All this royal family is one great disappointment. I remember very well the scene in which the whole family hugged after the whole incident and poor Varian was looking at it, standing next to his father enclosed in amber. I just have no words.
I liked him as a villain because he had at least some motives. It only annoyed me that he missed the entire second season, only to show up in the third, where he was only doing a minor supporting character. He has too much plot power to be pushed to the background. Overall, there was not enough of it. His transformation into a villain would be much more endearing if the recipient had the chance to get to know him more. Before his dad case, he only appeared in two episodes, which is a bit frustrating.
I give applause for the entire visual design of this character. While they could do some explanation for this turquoise strand of hair, it looks wonderful as a whole. It has a bit of steam punk energy, especially in season three. It has its own characteristics that give it a lot of charm. Those rabbit teeth, big blue eyes and upturned nose ... Big compliments. Y'know what's a fun detail? Varian is shorter than Raps in the first season but nearly her height in the last season, I love shows that have kid characters grow up. Varian's villain and redemption arch was done so well and they just dunged it with Cassandras. You get why Varian's angry and watching him fall hurts. He was a kid who just lost his father and a genius so left unchecked he could potentially be dangerous, which is what happened but after he had time to process everything he realized the error of his ways. While Cass's just felt so superficial and her motivation after the betrayal is pretty vague. Topping it off with a her dying out of no where as redemption, that's such a cop out. There was seriously no set up for Cass dying, like at least show that the stone made her sick after it was removed or something.

Also Cass’s whole “I’m always second to you, people care about you more than me” shtick. Like NO DUH Rapunzel is literally the only child and heir to the throne of Corona that had been missing for 18 years….she’s literally royalty and you’re the adopted daughter of the captain if the guard who’s acting as a handmaiden aka (basically) lady in waiting to the future queen. I love Cass but that was stupid thinking, and her whole “People love you more than me and I also blame you for being kidnapped by my mother who was abusive to you!” was absolutely terrible. Her lack of a true redemption arc was also a travesty (Varian was also a victim of the skipped redemption part of his arc) I also feel as though she should have been the villain for half the season and than been on redemption and helping the other for the other half.

I hated how in the finale, the only reason Cassandra and Rapunzel became “friends” again was cause Zhan Tiri took the sun drop and the moonstone. If Cass showed remorse before she lost her power than her redemtion would have worked a LOT better. But instead Cassandra only apologized cause she got caught.
I also really hated how they sidelined Eugene. He was the main character of the movie, he had a lot of potential and fans already loved him. • @vuivraalbastra
      @vuivraalbastra Před 3 lety +75

Exactly, Cassandra didn't finally made a choice to be good again, it's just that her powers to be a villain got stolen in a very stupid way (Did Cassandra really expect someone like Zhan Tiri to be hold back by a few black stones? She did a lot of dumb things in the last season but that one took the cake for me). Cass and Rap never had a real talk about why Cass did what she did, why Gothel didn't value any of them and she shouldn't be missed, why Cass already has a family in her father and friends, why Cass isn't just Rap's shadow, how Rap could treat her friends better and like her true equals etc. But no, just have Cass cry after she loses her power and help Rap destroy the villain who is obviously everybody's enemy. That will fix all the hearthbreak between the two of them and Cass' trauma, right?
And I hate how the show tried to prove it as "See, if you don't give up on your friends they eventually turn around!". That's an unfair and toxic mindset. Giving up on people can be the right choice and that isn't something selfish or pessimistic. You just can't help people who don't want to help themselves or who won't communicate with you. I had a close friendship in which i was like Rap and my friend was like Cass. Spoiler alert, my Cass didn't turn around, she just chose the friends that were supporting her unhealthy choices and blocked me out of nowhere without any explanation, even after I told her to just tell me if she wants to end the friendship and why and I'll respect her wish. Sometimes good people choose a bad path in life and there's nothing you can do about it aside from removing yourself from the situation before you get sucked into bad stuff yourself. Yeah, it's good to try a few times to help someone, but once you or the people around you start getting hurt, fuck that. You can keep the door open in case that friend turns around, but you need to set healthy boundaries for yourself and keep emotional distance.

Rapunzel from the movie would have legged it there on her own the moment she knew her parents were fine. Why is this one so negligent of her friends who mean so much to her??
The monologue you had Rapunzel give Cass after her betrayal is all I would have ever wanted her to say in the show. And Cass literally left her father to die at some point, left Rapunzel to die once or twice, and also in one episode slashed her sword at a table KNOWING Varian was behind and that she could have easily killed him. She went full crazy and then they just.... let her get away with it because she felt sorry AFTER she lost everything. If you only apologize once you have nothing left to lose, do you even really mean it? Cass literally got everything handed to her, a loving father, great education, and a chance to have a stable future, and she's jealous of the abuse victim for having powers again briefly. Amazing.

Indeed. The whole "revelling" thing is quite tricky. You should avoid it if you want the audience to think the antagonist has some good inside. I mean, did Zuko ever revel in hurting people when he was burning down villages and hunting down the Avatar? Nope. If he did, it would be way harder to sympathise with him. On the other hand, Azula & Ozai WERE psychos. They enjoyed being evil. And they DIDN'T get redemption arc.
Writers just gotta be careful with extreme emotions. A little psychotic break here or there could work even if they want the antagonist to get a redemption. Like, they laugh maniacally because they think they finally won but a few seconds later they start crying because they're lost and all this violence didn't bring them any closure.
But actually ENJOYING being evil? Feeling glee while hurting others? That's a big no-no for antagonists. That's pure, irredeemable villainy.

Cassandra has always felt undervalued, second-rate, meant to stand somewhere aside while others shine. This has been highlighted several times on the show. Everyone thought she was worse, that as a girl, she wasn't made to be a guard. In season 2, Cassandra goes on a journey with a friend, but suddenly it turns out that their friendship is not so sweet. Cassandra is afraid that Rapunzel no longer trusts her, and later her friend literally burns her hand. Later, the manipulating spirit shows her a possibly traumatic memory (the loss of her mother, who seemed like a good person to Cassandra). Cassandra must have been feeling hesitant, but I don't think she had yet made the decision to take the moonstone back then. She probably took it after learning that Rapunzel could die by touching a stone.
This is where my little theory comes in.
I believe that Sundrop, as the sun (positives, happiness, optimism) automatically makes you optimistic Mary Sue with a golden heart, and Moondrop, as the moon (dark, evil, pessimism, trauma) automatically makes you worse. This theory is very plausible. How else to explain Rapunzel's ideality and the sudden change in Cassandra's character and the fact that Cassandra had an old character right after losing the stone?
Continuing, however, the moondrope did not fully control Cassandra. When she heard "listen" - she listened. But the moondrop, reminding of the harm done, causing the urge to revenge, reacted to the "wait" - Cassandra did not want to wait, and the moonstone strengthened her hatred (proof: after the words "wait" moonlights flashed around Cassandra). In the following episodes, Cassandra was alternately herself and alternately a moondrope. The presence of Zhan-thiri strengthened the moondrope's reign over Cassandra.
I think Cassandra didn't want to admit how many reasons she had for cheating on Rapunzel, and she found the argument about the mother the best as it was emotional.
Cass's betrayal wasn't meaningless. It was a combination of emotion, trauma, distrust, loss of mother, waiting in the shadows, manipulation and the magic of the stone.
And yes, I know there were characters who were worse off than Cass, but a human is an individual, everyone will react differently to the harm done.
I'm not saying that what Cassandra did is good. I'm saying she had reasons.

Eugene wasn’t a good character in this show. He was completely ruined by becoming a comic relief character. I do agree through that him being a prince is unless. however I also think that Eugene being a prince is worse then people think it is. Besides Mulan, Rapuznel was one of the first princesses to fall in love with a man who wasn’t a prince. Eugene was far from one. He went from a selfish thief to a caring man who is changing his ways. Ever since Tangled there hasn’t been a long term prince love interest (like a prince who the Princess ended up with).

She let an ancient evil that destroyed everything and killed people, she tried to kill Rapanzel multiple times I believe and she kidnapped a kid who she was friends with. She threatened the entire kingdom and had little reason to do so they should have locked her up for a while. It enraged me that she didn’t get any form of repercussions and as you said you left scoot free because of the royals biases. It teaches kids that acts don’t have consequences when you know people in power.

You hear stories about Cartoons taking big risks in their writers room. Pushing for something that they're not quite sure they're going to get the green light for, Like the Legend of Korra finale. They wanted to make one specific couple cannon and they weren't sure if they would be allowed and last minute the studio said "okay". In Infinity train season one they wanted to touch upon the topic of divorce but weren't sure if they could tackle it head on or if they were only allowed to dance around the subject until finally the studio gave them the go ahead to be all in.
The reason I bring this up is because I theorize that Tangled the series really tried to do the same, but those risks didn't pay off and the studio just kept giving them 'No's' and holding them back.
heavily implying at that Rapunzel has issues brought on by her rough childhood and desire to making everyone happy all the time? Give her a character arc dealing with that?
Studio - No, Rapunzel is a major Disney princess. she must be portrayed as a paragon that all little girls want to live up to. She can't have a character arc. That would imply that she has major flaws to work on. At most give her little episodic lessons to learn along the way. As for any big mistakes she makes along the way, I'm sure the audience won't notice.
Making a complex message with Cassandra and Rapunzel that sometimes friends split up not because either person has cruel intentions, but because futures can head in different directions and forcing yourselves to stay together isn't helping anyone?
Studio - We want a big twist and a huge climactic battle between "Sisters" at the end. also we want a clear villain to point to and say "It's all their fault"
I don't have any confirmation on any of this. It's just a theory. I just got that impression that they wanted to make a 'Steven Universe' type show where characters deal with complex issues that's presented in a way kids can understand but the arcs that they were trying to write just kept getting shut down and having to dance around the story that they wanted to tell.

Me too!
And just imagine the roles were switched, imagine a guy would let his best friend constantly insult his girlfriend, keep secrets from her, draw her face on a punching bag just for his best friend and even reject her marriage proposal, then everyone would call it sexist and misogynistic and a toxic relationship. But when a guy is treated like that, it’s alright! It’s such a double standard and it’s ridiculous! Ugh, I hate modern feminism!

The plot serves the characters because how do they even get to that point without certain reactionary or passive action depending on the person to get to certain points. Honestly for this I was thinking rapunzel would go explore the rocks in secret with more lore after the first episode but was met with lots of filler honestly my favorite episodes were Queen for a day (both parts) and The Great Tree (both parts) because it gave me LORE. They set it up and kept build suspense and paid off in mostly filler then they made the filler episodes that were kinda boring into being relevant. I wish they shown more of Rapunzel’s flaws as The Rapunzel from the movie to the Queen but made her a Mary Sue. Atleast we had Eugene background mentioned but I thought it’d recur and hbu Lance’s criminal background??? Varian is mostly fine besides being underutilized and having many character moments I’d like to see off screen like telling his dad he went on a villain arc and Quirin to tell him about his past and more brotherhood bonding moments to see what their relationship is like besides that one flashback from when Edmund tried grabbing the moonstone.

What I want to know is why Cassandra got redeemed JUST LIKE THAT. She stole the moonstone for her own benefit because she was JEALOUS of Rapunzel? It's not Rapunzel's fault she got kidnapped, but according to Cassandra, it is. After all, Cassandra put Rapunzel through, she gets redeemed in one episode? Opposed to Varian who got ARRESTED because he was trying to help his father? I'm not saying Varian is perfect but why didn't Cassandra get arrested, why wasn't she thrown in jail? Was it JUST because she was Rapunzel's friend? It makes no sense, you throw a 14-year-old into jail, but let your best friend go even though what she said was arguably WORSE? Ok, Disney makes sense.

And then you have some people saying: Cassandra didn’t have control over herself, the moonstone and Zahn Tiri were controlling her.
You’re telling me that in the entirety of season 3 and a bit of 2 she was not making ANY decisions for herself. Think about it, season 2 was leading up to her betrayal, they had frequent arguments with rapunzel then she sang a whole theater production about how she feels rapunzel outshines her and she deserves more than her. She knew exactly what she was doing.
Yes, there was some manipulation with Zhan Tiri, like how she threw away the mirror fragment. Ultimately Cassandra blamed rapunzel for something she had no control over while being a grown woman.
Varian was 14, Cassandra was an adult, she should have had some common sense and maturity instead she stole something because she was J E A L O U S.
    Disney did Varian SO dirty.
Varian DID have control over himself and he was arguably mature for his age. I do agree with some of the things with Cassandra, she was being Manipulated by the Moonstone (I'm sure I heard it said somewhere) but I do think she did have more control over herself than Disney is making it to believe.
Rapunzel and she were still bumping heads the whole season 2 up until her betrayal.
    1. Cassandra did feel overshadowed by rapunzel, and I do believe she wanted to be held as equal, but as soon as she sang 'waiting in the wings' it was lost in translation, and for me became a song about jealousy and entitlement.
    2. She was missing for a few episodes (like 2 I think, it was the one where they were trapped in the giant shell with all the mirrors and they all turned young,) That was when the manipulation happened with Zahn Tiri, we don't see what happened until season three but it was a flashback to mother Gothel kidnapping Rapunzel, THAT was the main reason for her betrayal along with many other things.
She blamed Rapunzel for something she had no control over and that is my problem with Cassandra AND Varian.
There are some similarities between Varian and Cassandra,
the main one being they both were not thinking straight.
Cassandra obviously being manipulated by Zahn Tiri and the moonstone, but Varian it may not be so obvious.
I think Varian was manipulated by love, stay with me here,
Love makes you do some questionable things, like how Freidrich locked Rapunzel in the tower to protect her against Varian.
Varian was losing the one person he had left, and in his teenage brain it was Rapunzel's fault, (yes I’m pulling the hormone card, sorry lol)
Varian was 14 at the time and the frontal lobe of his brain, the general area in which decision making is, was not fully developed.
(I just looked up how old Cassandra is and according to google she's four, thanks google) Assuming Cassandra is in her early 20's she mostly thinks with her prefrontal cortex, which is fully developed by the time you're an adult.
Opposed to Varian who isn't fully developed and is right around the time of puberty. (And we all know how that goes)
BY NO MEANS am I saying "yeah lmao go kidnap the queen and threaten everyone"
    That was dumb of him.
Ultimately I do think both characters are similar and should both be held accountable, we are in agreement there.
    My problem is this,
Rapunzel jailed Varian and not Cassandra,
both were in similar circumstances (somewhat) but Cassandra had absolutely no punishment and was redeemed in 2 EPISODES?! if she did have a punishment it was off-screen or not very long.
I think it's unrealistic and stupid that they jail a 14-year-old and not someone quite older. It ticks me off.
If I made any grammatical mistakes or got any information wrong feel free to tell me :)

I don’t know how long each season is time-wise I personally go with each season=one year putting Varian and Cassandra at 16 and 24 respectively at the end of the series, though some people think Varian is 18 by the end of the series making Cassandra 26. I have seen official character designs for the cancelled Varian spin-off and that shows that he has grown taller and a little broader since S3 so I generally think that he’s 16 by the end of the series as most men stop growing at about 16-18.

I don't think you need to pull all that hormone thing, Varian was angry because Rapunzel broke her promise to help him and everyone abandoned him and his father (also it WAS fault of the king if the black rocks invaded the village, and for the end of first season he figured out that, saying they were lying to people to hide their mistake), so he didn't care about royal family and Corona's people. And yeah, he was feeling guilty and desperate to pin the blame on someone else to escape his feelings. But, why Cassandra was so angry with Corona that she wanted to destroy, that makes no sense... because she thought to be oh so great and people didn't give her the attention she deserved? Seems literally she tried to cope her abandonment trauma with a ridiculous ambition, she looked just so egocentric...

It's shown that Gothel needed to use the Sun drop's power at least every few days or she starts to drastically age. A non magical pregnancy is difficult enough and it's not always pretty, but imagine what Gothel would have to do to have a healthy birth. The fact that Gothel had a kid at all doesn't seem like something she would do since it wouldn't serve her self interests. Change the story so that Gothel has a descendant that came from a daughter she had and abandoned before she got into magic.

One thing that never sat right with me about Eugene's character in the series is that they either completely ignore the fact that he literally died for Rapunzel or they play it off as a joke. In the two separate episodes where they return to the tower they joke about it. The first time Eugene ends up staying outside and says "I have a rule about dying in the same place twice" then in the second episode Eugene is in the tower giving Max a tour (completely ignoring the impossibility that is a whole freaking horse even existing in that tinny tower) and he said "oh watch out that's where I died. And there's one point in season one "Painters Block" where Rapunzel is distressed after having to make so many tough decisions in a short period of time and is acting not like herself and Eugene tries to comfort her and she says "tell you what, Eugene the day you have to choose whether to put the entire fate of a kingdom in the hands of a fairytale is the day we can chat about difficult choices"
THE MAN LITERALLY CHOSE TO DIE RATHER THAN LET THE LOVE OF HIS LIFE BE HELD CAPTIVE BY A MANIPULATIVE AND ABUSIVE WOMAN!!!!! But yeah sure Eugene totally doesn't know that it's like to make tough choices
They act as if his death was as simple as him breaking a leg or deciding to not comb his hair for a single day.
They do my man dirty they really do.

I loved Varian's character arc. He was a kid who loves science, but made a mistake that ended in his dad getting into a dangerous situation. When he goes to his friend who he trusts, she turns him away. He needed help, and was confused, and he's a kid, and he was mad. He acted out, and was actually very powerful. He payed for his mistakes, and Rapunzel had no punishment for making his friend turn out that way. He comes back in season three, and he feels guilty that he hurt people, and was scared that people won't forgive him, so again, being a child who doesn't know better, tries to erase his mistakes and make people forget, but he realizes that's wrong and tries to fix it again. Then Raps have him a job which no where near shows the intelligence he has. He accepts that, and tries to help as much as he can while having fun. And then cas kidnapped and drugged him and tried to get information. He tells her (through a really boring song that doesn't go with what's on screen) that he went through the same thing, and that it's stupid and if she apologizes, then it's not too late to redeem herself. I think this gave him the build up to be a really powerful hero, but they just stick him in another dimension, and break all of his inventions.

I'll never forgive them for what they did to Eugene. The character I hated most was Cassandra by far. SHE should've been the sidekick, NOT Eugene. Remember when the story was about Rapunzel and Eugene? Why bother making Eugene a lost prince of a 'dark kingdom' if you're not gonna do anything with it? If you're basically just gonna make Cassandra that even though she's not. I feel like she should've stayed as Rapunzel's sidekick, best friend who stood for good and justice, and slowly became the royal guard captain and made her dad (the captain) proud. I also feel like we should've gotten more scenes with them. Emotional scenes. Explore their father-daughter relationship and give them character development. Cass could've still been Gothel's daughter, and she could have still been mad about the situation, but then have her realize that Gothel wasn't a real parent to her. That the real parent was the Captain.

First of all, why bother keeping her in a separate location? Why not keep her with Rapunzel at the tower so she wouldn't feel lonely and wouldn't desire the outside world as much?
And secondly, Gothel loved herself. It's hard to imagine her having sex with anyone. She would be "above" that. Because no one was as important as her.

Crossing the line's tone was similar in execution with let it go. It isn't "oh happy birthday lol" but the character intentionally getting energetic to 'let go' of something that she thinks was holding her back. That's being consistent with the character's motivation. Both Cass and Elsa are trying to forget or ignore the bad stuff going on. It's a false happy tone.

The tonal dissonance of the triumphant villain songs doesn't bother me that much, since they usually reflect the mindset of the characters and their rather messed-up priorities more than the circumstances that they're in.
In "Crossing The Line", Cassandra has just decided to put her own self-gain over the safety of the entire world by running off with the moonstone, and broken all of her friends' hearts, and she could not care less about how her actions are hurting other people. As far as she's concerned, this is her time to shine, her time to get what she thinks she deserves and cut loose the people who have always been holding her back. "Crossing The Line" is a perfect fit for Cassandra's character, who is a very selfish woman whos also very deluded about what she thinks she's entitled to until Zhan Tiri gives her a reality check at the season's end.
