    Thanks for this. I changed the thermostat on my 2013 1.6 Astra Estate today, using this video as a guide, and worked great. Thermostat on my car is on the other side of the engine, but was easy to figure out.

      Did you need to bleed the cooling system, I need to do the same job but was told the system will need bleeding after but not sure how to do it.

      If you are unsure how old the coolant is then I would suggest you drain it while you do this job.

    Thanks very much mate. I'll be doing it tomorrow. It might be worth mentioning the bolts are Torx 10mm,
    I got that from VOC site. Socket available from Halfords I'm told.

    I did this job a few years ago myself and I had an issue of the housing hitting the head just above where it is located when removing it on the old and the new part the replacement I ended up carefully sanded down the side of it so it fits how it should and without compromising the new part

    Great video, going to do this next week, best to drain the coolant first and then do this as I am going to change the coolant anyway? Thanks

      Hard to get out bolts steel corrodes into the ally housing. If you have a little plumbers gas torch you can warm up the bolts but make sure you protect any pipes or wires. You don't want a fire in there

    Thankyou for your videos, very informative & helpful regarding Zafira Issues.
    I have a 2000 X Reg 1.8 Petrol Zafira, the problem I have with the engine fan comes on & off every so many seconds for a few seconds even when cold, & also comes on when temperature gets about half way on the gauge, could that be faulty temperature sensor or thermostat?
    I also wondered if you knew or had tips for why my power steering works intermittently, I Have checked for right amount of fluid & or any leaks, all is well, but it’s bugging my why it doesn’t always work?
    TIA for any help or tips why these issues are happening.
    Daniel.

    • @Mids1970
      @Mids1970  Před rokem

      Hi Daniel thanks for the positive comments, its very hard to diagnose just from your descriptions, it is more likely a faulty temp sensor than a thermostat. As for the power steering it could be one of a few things, if you have the electric pump then it could be a broken wire or poor terminal making intermittent contact or worn seals in the rack. Sorry I'm not much help.

    thankyou for sharing, does that thermostat just allow water flow between radiator and engine? and is there another thermostat that turns on the radiator fan?as my fan isnt turning on after leaving running for over half an hour !

    • @Mids1970
      @Mids1970  Před 3 lety +1

      yes and yes, this thermostat is just to allow water from the rad to the engine, the electric radiator fan relies on a temperature switch, sound like its electrical.

    • @Mids1970
      @Mids1970  Před 3 lety

      is you engine getting up to temperature? if you are doing short runs just a few miles each day because of lock down it maybe the engine is still below temp and the fans wont kick in.

    Watched this hoping to hear the torque setting for the bolts, but no. Will assume you topped up with propper coolant to avoid corrosion even tho you kept calling it 'water'😳👍

    what year is this car, why does my thermostat look different

      @Landfill-703 Před rokem +1

      Mine is different, lower down and more difficult to change because it’s a 2.0 Diesel

    STOP PRESS! The guy on Vauxhall Owner's Club was wrong! The socket you need is T/E 8mm, not 10mm. And 10mm is the smallest Halfords do. Euro Car Parts do a rack of 4-18mm for £10. The smaller ones, incl 8mm, need a 1/4" drive. The bigger ones are 3/8" drive. I couldnt find anything better in Screwfix or Toolstation.
