I’m very glad to see you’re back producing CZcams videos. I really enjoy them, in particular the one’s on the Akai MPK mini MK3, which is why I’m commenting. Could you please do a thorough tutorial on that keyboard. The AKAI instructions are poor at best. I’ve had my keyboard for over a year and still can’t use it with any fluency. I really need an in depth lesson on all its features and capabilities. In one of your videos a year ago you talk about the 5 things to do to setup the unit. One thing you touch on is changing the key velocity. You change a couple settings, but what do the other “V” settings do? What does V1 affect? What does “Black bal:” do. What are the various keyboard superscripts and how do you activate…such as “UP”, “DOWN”, EXCL”, “INCL”. This unit is anything but “intuitive”, as least to me. Thanks and HELP!!!
The crazy thing is. Logic for iPad is just on version 1. Not to mention the new AI mastering plugin they just added the other day

I agree though.. you made some great points on comparing the two... BM3 feels much better for the actual "beatmaking process" but Logic is just a BEAST as far as an overall DAW for the ipad goes. In my opinion using both is the way to way to go... im still learning logic as you said it has a much highter learning curve with so much going on within it. But like you i find myself going back to Beatmaker as it has such a great workflow for creating sample based music.
One thing i was surprised you didnt mention about Logic as a con was rhe way they categorize the Auv3 plugins by the developers name only. To me this has been my biggest gripe with Logic so far

We use Logic Pro on Mac Studio for songwriting and recently added a Maschine Mikro MK3 to the setup. I was impressed with the ease of the Maschine software setup and have been looking for a similar workflow on the iPad. Beatmaker 3 and Koala were recommended and I thought I’d try Beatmaker 3 with a Black Friday discount yet there’s been no promotion on that. Yet today, I see it is half off on the App Store but still no announcement on the website. I have Logic on the iPad but it will take me a while to figure it out. Since lunch costs more than Beatmaker 3 today on Black Friday, I’ll try it and learn all this from your great video here! Thank you!
Live Loops are grate for a non linear composing method. For me, Logic Pro on iPad has been a game changer, obviously I can acknowledge some omissions, but in general I´m so loving it!

Great review -- I agree with a lot of what you said, especially about the simpler interface in BeatMaker 3. I think you need a 13 inch iPad to use logic for iPad well. And a lot of long train rides.

so, have you tried the Drum Machine Designer + Step Sequencer workflow?
Build a kit in DMD, and every pad has a channel strip.
Open the play surface with a blank DMD and drag files directly onto a pad. This creates a corresponding channel strip that shows up in the tracks area and the mixer.

What about the sampler in BM3? That itself deserves its own section
Have you tried designing Alchemy patches in Mac Logic and importing them into iPad Logic? I've heard it's supposed to work, but I wonder how it'd work you imported a track with automation lanes routed to alchemy parameters that are not exposed on iPad alchemy, if you could still edit the automation or if that'll even work?
is there any way to save and send a bm3 session to someone else’s with everything in it automation and stock, plug-ins, and everything
I love the BM3 workflow, sometimes I’m just laying back and catch a vibe I need that MPC workflow. I have an mpc X, and my goto on the computer is FL studio. I would love to use FL more but BM3 has been my goto for 1st phase of production for a while. I wish it was maintained by the developers more. If logic was my DAW on the computer I would probably use it because FL on OS is trash. All these DAWS have their strengths and weaknesses it all depends on your desired workflow. If there were more of my favorite plugins on IOS I would hardly ever use my computer for music.

BM3 has been abandoned so even though it has it's merits it's basically two fingers up to their users. When I get an iPad Air 5 am switching to Logic. By the way what's the swing like in Logic - does it flatten the notes etc?
Beat maker 3 started losing steam when the main developer departed. I’m not paying a for a monthly subscription…good review.
I just use some of the beats from Logic Pro and use it in the Beatmaker 3 app

I’ve had BM3 since it came out and I’ve never managed to get it to run for more than 5 minutes without crashing and losing everything. I’ve had 3 different iPad Pro’s in that time and it was the same in all of them.
That’s really bad luck. I’ve only had a few crashes over that whole time. But I do have projects load with missing samples when I’ve used a long sample and trimmed it down
I don’t know why it’s soo hard to have an option to edit those premade chords in bm3 or to add a better chord generator

Thanks for this comparison. I have stayed away from BM 3 because it seems it is no longer being maintained by the vendor and I don’t want to invest in a platform for which development has dried up.
Talking of which, what appeals me in BM3 is that its workflow is very similar to that of the super efficient Maschine architecture, without the archaic limitations of the MPC.
The lack of good support for midi mapping in Logic Pro for iPad rules it out for me as a serious DAW.
These are very valid points and a lot of people feel the same way, myself included.
There was a minor update a few months ago. Nothing groundbreaking, but more than just ‘maintenance updates’, so there may be hope yet….
I feel like bm3 has a way faster workflow , well it feels more hands on . Main killer is I feel like using your own samples / drums is a pain . I’ve never gotten along with logic. On comp I use maschine standalone , when I need to record vocals I use logic .
That makes sense! I also think most companies (that sell you sound packs) don’t go out of their way to make external import easy unfortunately. ☹️

How can I add AudioCopy sound packs to Beatmaker 3 so that they create they’re own banks. I did it once, but I didn’t know I did it. That would help me so much!!,
Copy and paste all of your AudioCopy folders into BeatMaker 3 by going to files . I did it with all the sound packs I bout for iMPC pro 2

@@MusicTechnologistAre you still using Cubasis ? Logic is way more advanced on many levels but some folks more knowledgeable than I opine that Cubasis has the edge insofar as MIDI. Lots of people on Audiobus Forum are switching back from LP on iPad to Cubasis 3.. Thoughts ? There’s also a Cubasis update in the works .. And the Logic Pro update? ..Ha!! … pffft…

No it don’t it has piano roll. It has scene section that works terribly as well but no step sequencer
I tried using Logic and forced myself to use it only for a month, but it was too cluttered. I didn’t like no file browser and tons of other things. I switched back to BM3 and have decided to just keep using it like it’s an mpc2kxl. No need to upgrade.
BM3 is a beat making tool that you can buy and own and use. The other one is a perpetual rental that will hold you hostage because you can’t get your work out of it if you decide to stop paying for it later down the road.

@@jjbing3gonna be even crazier about 2 years from now when people realize the rent is still coming due and there is no way to get all that work into another DAW. Just gonna be stuck with stems and forced to redo everything or keep paying the rent. And all that disappointment knowing they been renting for years now and still can't do basic stuff like with Cubasis or AUM. Perpetual payments on a hope that never came.

Yeah BM3 for me. Until this hobby of mine starts paying monthly, I’ll stick to the one time payment products.
logic made cubasis 3 instantly obsolete for me. BM3 has best sampler tho.
never "subscribing" to a monthly payment for Logic. I would sooner sell my iPad, since Procreate still cannot mix blue with yellow properly. The iPad is a serious let down right now because of these issues.
