  • Recently I broke my IC-7100.
I accidentally touched metal tuner body by tuner connector power center pin when radio was powered on. I heard a sound inside my radio and it became dead.
I have basic radio-electronic knowledge and limited skills, but I decided try to repair my radio and get some experience.
There is 5A fuse inside the radio, that was blown. After fuse replacing radio turned on and started to work, however tuner 12V power output didn't work.
I noticed a tiny ferrite bead that was fried. After ordering a ferrite bead replacement and some soldering tools, today I attempted to repair my radio. It was fun weekend project. These things are really small, but using my phone as a magnifier I was able to replace that element. I decided to add some protection to tuner power output pin by installing a separate 1A fuse into 12V output pin. Hopefully it will protect the radio from such accidents in future. I'm not a professional, and just documented what I did and maybe somebody or even me again might need it in future.
