    As much as I wish I had sent my dog to Brandon for training before bringing him home czcams.com/users/postUgkx1_veP7CApJK_GWy_TczaMciuG64PqJeU I am so grateful for this down-to-earth, practical guide. His training techniques and tips really work. Thank you as well for dedicating your life's work to rescue dogs, and to rescuing those of us who want the very best for our 4-legged family members.

    Omg you're making videos, I owe every ounce of training my dog has to you. Everybody who meets him loves him and says he's a great dog. He is not very strictly obedient but I've noticed most dogs have no training whatsoever so people are surprised when they see him

I'm starting out with a 1 y/o German Shepherd rescue with NO training whatsoever. In his first three days with me, he's already responding beautifully by me emulating you in our first steps. THANK YOU for continuing to post and I'm forever grateful to have discovered you!

    I like your training techniques. I am a positive reinforcement dog trainer myself and sometimes I point my students to positive trainers on CZcams so when they are practicing they can be reminded of the steps. I would hate for them to look up any old trainer on CZcams or worse yet think Caesar Milan was someone they would want to follow. Thank you for making your videos available!

    So I wish you would have included how you got your dog interested in the crate to start with. I’ve clicked and rewarded for looking at, sniffing, and the few times he’s put his head into the container but it’s not clicking with my dog that it’s the crate I want him to focus on. Not sitting for me 🤦🏼‍♀️

    • @susiebutler771
      @susiebutler771 Před 4 lety +5

      Put a treat in the bottom if the container, reward him for getting the treat. Then pretend to put a treat in the container and reward him for putting his head in to look for it. Then when he's doing that reliably you can add a command before you know he is about to do it! Then reward for putting his head in with the command

      I think it's very important to clarify the lengh of the whole process in order to avoid confusion about why this is not working fast enough with people's dogs. The owners might feel frustrated because of this.

    • @TrainingPositive
      @TrainingPositive  Před 6 lety +3

      Habencon Escribano good point! I think the problem with timelines is that they can vary so much based on the dogs age, experience with training, the person’s skill level, etc.. I would say that if you are not progressing to the next level after a week of consistent practice, it might be worth taking a closer look at what’s not working and making some adjustments there.

      @TrainingPositive  Před 6 lety +3

      Gowsiganaudio it sounds like your dog may be getting distracted by and reacting to fast moving people. You can do any of the exercises I demonstrate in my videos on working around distractions as a starting point.

    • @nickolastiguan
      @nickolastiguan Před 6 lety +2

      Gowsiganaudio my dog does the same. Regarding cyclists, I got on my bike myself, and my wife trained/showed him it is okay not to bark and chase after me.
      As for joggers, we are continuously training him to pay attention to us, instead of the joggers. He doesn't care when we run, only when we sees other joggers 😂

    • @qwertykotchka394
      @qwertykotchka394 Před 3 lety

      You can use a marker word (anything you like). A lot of people use "yes" or "good" though it's actually better to use a word that the dog won't hear all the time when he's not training as it dilutes it's impact. The advantage of the clicker is that it is a unique sound and very precise, sometimes the marker word is spoken a moment too late.

      Tehya Blackburde Moore stick with teaching her to just drop it in the bucket for a good while, as in the earlier steps of the video. Work with a toy or object your dog is less interested in playing with as you teach this initially. Play with her on other occasions before you train.

    German shepherd is 2 times trainable than labrador retriever so I think if new owner wants to get a dog that can learn quicker and tire of repeating the same stuff again, German shepherd is the most easiest one to learn fast. Border Collie learn faster too but they need too much exercise.
