    I just saw your beautiful tribute to Solea. I have loved watching your videos as both of you have grown AND used your great techniques and manner with my new border collie. Thank you for sharing life with us through our wonderful canine companions. Solea was a lovely and wonderful partner for all of learning through you both.

    Brilliant and such an attentive pup. Teaching tricks do not always work out as intended, however. I have a disabled son and taught my boy to open doors. He started to open the front door to people, which is okay until its a delivery man who takes one look at my GSD and starts running away - followed by my pup who thinks it is a game. Or teaching him to open a bin put something in and then close it - caught him taking things out and then shutting it again when he thinks no one is around lol

    I just bought a Labrador a month ago and everyone kept saying me to buy a German or golden retriever coz labra are extremely lazy, all they do is eat and sleep.
    Shoutout to u man, will show this to everyone who thinks wrong about labra.

    Can you do a tutorial of how to teach scent identification? I tried it once with Tupperware boxes and peanut butter, but would love to be able to teach to dog to look for any scent I present to it eg. I have an object that smells of the scent I want identifying. Just for fun and it's a little more interesting for my dog to learn

    Maybe how to be more competition level or style, I’m not sure how to explain this... I guess an example would be that I had my dog sitting in front of me and not in the heel position so now trying to make him sit on my side he wants to scoot over in front of me. I’m working on it but i had no idea that would be a problem

    Hats off, Watson!! We were thrilled by your incredible precision, focus and even drama (that “bang” trick!). Found you searching for “labrador trick dog.” Want to share this with a new friend from Rally-O class, the only other human in class I noticed was using a flat collar-like me with my border collie-on her cheery, eager labrador. Not a choke or pinch collar like all the others. Our local club, which I left thirty years ago, I found to my surprise is unfortunately still in the dark ages of “yank and praise,” and is yet again poisoning relationships (as they did mine, so long ago) of hapless owners and their confused and/or reactive dogs. Very disheartening to witness. I aspire to your high R+ skill level-can’t tell you how much. Every trick we accomplish I wish and know I could have trained better. So we move on to the next one. “Just keep training,” says Jean Donaldson. Trust the method. Thanks so much for sharing this!!

    Thanks for creating these videos. It has been amazing following Watson from puppy to one year old. I appreciate that your videos are informative, insightful, and concise. I've learned a lot and am supporting you on Patreon. The question I have is what do you use for rewards? You've mentioned kibble, but our dog is just so-so when rewarded with kibble. Treats work much better, but we're conscious of their contents and high quality treats can be $8 for a measly 3 ounces. Are there any recipes you would recommend, or other tips? Thanks!

    • @TrainingPositive
      @TrainingPositive  Před 6 lety +3

      Dave Gray even though I’ve always used kibble for training, it’s true that not all dogs will be highly motivated for it. There are actually ways of strengthening the dogs drive to work for food, but that’s a topic for another day. If your dog seems uninterested in kibble, you could experiment with other types of rewards such as small bits of meat or cheese. There’s no need to go with expensive commercial products. I don’t have a specific recommendation because some dogs can have allergic reactions to certain foods. I think the most important thing is to experiment and see what your dog seems really interested in. Also consider the timing of your training sessions (train hungry!).

    • @darkhog1
      @darkhog1 Před 6 lety

      Thanks for the suggestion! After looking for ideas online, I cooked some chicken livers (cut to strips, bake @ 200 degrees for 2 hours, cut to smaller bits). They work, but my dog isn't as excited as I expected. Will try bits of cheese next, and play a bit on her hunger. Thanks!

    • @jlw22356

      @@darkhog1 .....Liver or Chicken was what I used years ago training my lab,but as any lab owner will tell you....anything edible! All mine loved Apples,one even used to go crazy for Oranges and used to pinch them from a fruit bowl on the coffee table. Easy to follow the trail of rind to where she was hiding! LOL

    Is it ok to introduce well trained 1 yo labrador(male) to a newborn baby? I always had dogs at home as a teenager, and me and my fiance would like to bring home a dog soon after our honeymoon. But well.. we would also like to have a family, baby might come after year or two.
    If it comes sooner I would like to know if year would be enough time to teach puppy good behavior.
