- While Bill Doran is in town to help with a recent robot-design project, he brings along some 3D-printed kits he and Britt of @punishedprops have designed as part of their new Gizmo Thrill venture. Adam and Bill put together this lovely working fantasy padlock and chat about the process of 3D modeling mechanical toys for anyone with a 3D printer to make at home.

Where's the lock picking lawyer when you need him?
He’s here… he’s always here for Adam’s videos. 👍
No way, it worked!!
Where’s Margot Robbie when I need her? Hope it works for me too 😂
@@lockpickinglawyer I will treasure this moment forever good sir. You have made my day 😁
@@lockpickinglawyer made my day
@@GIBBO4182 where is a million £ when you need it?
Now to wait patiently 😅🤭
Thanks again for having me in the cave and letting me show off all our new stuff!
Great models Bill. You’d probably dig my toy waffle iron and stand mixer.
idk proper 3d printing terminology, but it looks like your silver filament might be over-extruding or getting a little too melted
Great stuff, Bill! So happy to to see you giving this a shot on Printables. Your models have always been awesome.
I can't believe the guy that did a health anf fitness segment on TMS is now working with Adam Savage
Ever since the Muppet Central Forums I've envisioned a live action anime with animatronic puppets... Projects such as Book of Pooh and Team America always come to my mind
Depending on what I want them to do, I could switch between bunraku and marionette functionality
Combined with green screen technology I could do anything but I can't do much without the manufacturer... It's inspiring how you make these 3D models so easily assembled
still more secure than a Masterlock.
Wet tissue is more secure than masterlock
@@Rachel_M_ my hopes and dreams are more secure than a masterlock
Bill with the exacto 11:36 proving that Every tool's a hammer
it was very nice of Bill, as a guest in The Cave, to give Adam the kit that set up perfectly, and stick with the one with breakable parts himself XD
Yeah the silver filament might not be quite right for this application, but having said this, the speed that Adam works at is very impressive.
Should've had an aside with Tested's legal counsel pushing the print button on this. "This is the lock printing lawyer..."
I feel like it'd be fun to see if Adam could replicate these locks with his machining skills one day. Love seeing new content from BIll, this is another thing that really makes me want a 3D printer.
This is the lockpicking lawyer, and today we'll be trying a lock that could give Masterlock a run for their money.
I loved the look on Adam's face when Bill was using the exacto as a hammer, and knew his hand might slip and completely ruin the shooting day. Then runs off to keep him from doing it again, without making him look like he made a really stupid decision.
Refer to Adam's book "Every tool is a hammer" lol
@@nathanhiggins860 Indeed! Immediately followed by one's insurance policy. :D
I've never seen him pass up an opportunity to show someone one of his favourite thwackers
Adam: brilliant engineer yet also Numero Uno safety officer!! 😄
@@JS-pt-219sgafter a decade plus of doing mythbusters it’d be miracle not to become more safety conscious.
Amazing how Adam's decades of experience shines through even here. The designer and creator can't put it together as well as he did!
Nice positive video, 2 friends putting together a project, 1 appreciating the craftsmanship and design the other created.
@lockpickinglawyer has entered the chat
I was looking for this comment
He actually has 😃 See the reply to @Rachel_M_'s comment.
Cool 3D printed lock, Adam! Now pick it 😋 Thanks for sharing!
please, more vids with bill! you guys are so fun together.
Adam just instinctively putting that padlock together faster than its creator just showed his insane ability as a Tinkerer..... Mad scientist..... Ultimate collector.
Love seeing new content from Adam. Keep up the great work.
Adam and Bill! Such a great duo! ✨
Give us more Bill Doran!
Okay those look like some fun 3D Printsble locks
It's great to see you two working together, love both of your channels
Great job guys. Thank you 😊
Fun, fun and more fun! Colorful too❗️
Those 3d models are beautiful
This is just amazing!! The more I watch Adam, the more I realize I am a maker as well! I love it!
This was such a fun watch, reminded me of the kind of thing I did with my grandfather as a child. Taking things apart just because I wanted to see how they worked, and him guiding me through reassembling everything. 😅
Thanks for the video! Top notch guest / expert!
For the boat: you could actually attach a ballast via a keel so that you get the benefits of stability from both methods.
Love it when they get together
Glad to see Bill & Brit making videos again :)
Thanks for all the great videos Adam! All the best from Brittany France
Between Bill and Adam there's nothing they couldn't build
Those locks look fresh out of minecraft
What kind of 3D printer was used? Great video Thanks
I can almost hear McNallyOfficial's voice: "This is a GizmoThrill Padlock. You can open it with a GizmoThrill Padlock"
Bill gave me one of these locks. Such a fun gizmo and the design is super cool!
You can’t beat a nicely crafted escutcheon
I love it when Adam uses the 3D machine you never know what he's going make or do🤓😡😤. I saw Mythbusters yesterday on discovery channel🤗. Square Wheels and other episodes as well.
That's one of the reasons why I love Prusa. You buy a 3D printer kit and it comes with an assmebly manual on pair with a Lego kit. That's important, because, through the building process, you learn a lot about your printer.
I've met Bill a couple times and it was always a pleasant experience. My favorite memory was pulling my Loki helmet off by the horn and handing it to him while we chatted about how it was made.
I love watching this videos
it is sooo sweet Tested giving exposure to Bill
Another great video from the two of you! I have to giggle that Adam put the design of Bill together a lot easier than Bill himself did ;-) Bill broke a pin, broke his key… and ended up having issues opening his lock when the final visual piece was added :-) Hahaha… Glorious piece of engineering though Bill! You were probably so focused on doing it right that you messed up because of that… Adam just went ‘boom, boom,… Oh I love these pressure fits Bill!” Went together like a dream his did ;-)
Great video .
Your video with Bobby Fingers was one of the greatest things that's happened to the internet in literally years along with all of his videos (and every other one of your videos including this one is also awesome 😉) just wanted to let you know. 💜
Wow, thank you!
also there is also the fixability aspect, easy to replace the part that might break
Glad to hear, definitely missing you on GG this season.
When ordering filaments I've honestly been pleasantly surprised that so many brands don't just offer primary colours, but assorted variation down to interesting tints like a slightly pinkish red.
Tolerances are FUN. You spend ages getting your printer dialled in and that's never perfect (hi silk PLA) - but model makers will just use anything from 2mm to zero tolerance. I make my models in blender so there's no automatic adjust.
He really should make some pins that print lying sideways or they will keep breaking between the layers. Ultimately that might mean designing a different head
I always add a tiny chamfer to my holes when facing the build plate
Scooter the boat next plz🥰
i really though when he said "you can use screws if you want" Adam was going to go find the hardware lol
still more secure than a masterlock
Love that you refer to your CAMP as a "house"... 'cuz i do, too! 😂
welp, definitely joining Gizmo thrill's monthly club!
Not super related, but you have inspired me to pursue my dream of engineering, i am26 so I'm a bit late to the party but i just needed to tell you watching myth busters with my dad and watching your videos here, have inspired me to take the leap, and great news today i got accepted to the college program i applied to!!!!
I would love to see you send one of these to The Lock Picking Lawyer.
Great video sir
Man, I felt that comment about customer service emails. Whiny customers can suck all the joy out of 3d printing sometimes.
What is that glue you’re both using? That’s one of the makes or breaks of assembly.
I love seeing amazing 3d models I can print myself! Someone introduce Adam to Steve Peterson's 3d-printed clocks!
Thank you guys, you just lit it up. I am amazed by the quality and detailed engineering and artistic work. Thank you . Where's the lawyer?)
11:32 every tool's a hammer!
When I grow up, I want to have a CZcams channel where I play Legos with my friends.
🙂
At 7:49 you're talking about the copper filament which I definitely agree is amazing! Are you able to share what brands were used in this video? Only one I heard called out was Protopasta's 'Blood of my Enemies' which is definitely getting ordered by me!
The cross-over we need, but didn't know... Punished props and the Lock picking lawyer!!! Send this lock to him!
When are the model companies going to get on board (Revell, AMT, Monogram, Bandai) ?
3d printing is cool and easy to make something
Incoming Warhammer 40k themed padlocks! 😳
I hoooooooooope somehow there's gonna be a colab with the lockpicking lawyer x: I want them to nerd over cool locks together, maybe give him a mask for his identity cx or only record his bits in an overhead cam lol
Best ever
Now we need Lockpicking Lawyer to pick it with a 3D printed pick...
What brand filament is that copper? I use a lot of D03D and Mike3D for really good gold and copper.
Could this theoretically be printed/made from a metal? I assume the spring mechanisms would be an issue.
could probably just replace the spring pieces with thin metal sheet springs. Was thinking of doing this in wood as a CNC challenge... (with the metal springs)
Bill should send one of his padlocks to LPL he would probably do a video on it.
More Bill please.
Would make sense to print the pins and key from something with high layer bonding like nylon or 95 tpu
im guessing he only did normal infill too instead of just printing it solid
What 3D printer would be good for a beginner to make things like these?
All depends on different things...
Budget, what you want to print over all, size you want.
I'd like to see Adam attempt to make this lock out of metal
Please tell me you're sending one of these to the Lockpicking Lawyer.
But can lock picking lawyer open it
I see a potential collab here xD
Quick! Send one to the lockpickinglawyer! I bet he can't pick one of these.
Looks like a lock straight out of a Nintendo game such as Zelda or Mario
I don't own a 3d printer, but could someone please print one of these in metal. That would be cool.
I wonder if Adam knows about the LPU community 👀
Can you make a time crystal?
Hey adam! Sup! Didn't find a place to send a question so Im sending here... Im a software developer that loves making stuff and Im finally organizing my shop and getting a bit more serious about making. I got some machines here and there, 2 3d printers a laser cutter, some power tools, and so on. But now that I have invested some money and that im actively trying to learn different and more complex stuff, I realized I became much more anxious about the stuff I make. Im generally and anxious person but this never messed up with me making stuff, because that was usually where Im just having fun and enjoying myself. Now that I have spent more money, and that I even plan to spend even more, and that my projects are bigger and may fail at a much later stage where I have already poured many many hours on them, I feel quite anxious about failing. I know how failing is fundamental and everything but still, its really hard to put the investment and time, and money is quite short. How do you handle bigger projects failing at the integration stage? How do you handle the anxiety of getting stuff right? Or how not to lose focus and prevent feature creep?
Hey gang for a good time check out this book to get some ideas: "Making Working Wooden Locks (Woodworker's Library) "
More videos with bill...
0:12 - link in the description... checks for link. No link 😒
15:00 "oh, ooohhh" "I mean of course you're a girl dragon"
Lockpicking Lawyer collab?
Watch him go at it in like 5 seconds
DID BOBBY REALLY FIGHT DAN!??
Do another pg gundam like
Exia or unicorn the last one was cool
Frank Ippolito stunt double?
Adams lock was a so much better quality print, the other lock kept binding
I’d love to buy an already-printed-out kit for My Beloved’s upcoming birthday but that doesn’t seem to be an option yet 😢
How bout a working 3D-printed Razor Crest.
👍👍👍👏👏👏😁😁😁
How do you 3D print a Lego Adam Savage yet?????????
Just do Allen heads and 3d print an Allen key
