I have a 2018 Ridgeline. My co-worker who has a Ram makes fun of it, but only hauls garbage to the dump. It hauls my boat, the bed hauls my ATV and it's one of the safest cars out there. Could it look a bit..."meaner." Sure. It's not perfect. But I'm not rock-climbing, pulling a horse-trailer or planning to go mud-bogging. Plus, it has plenty of room for hockey gear!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (The in-bed trunk is friggin' great...)

I got a 2019 RTL-E 6 months ago and love it. I had a nice 2011 Tundra for 9 years and at that time I had a big boat and somewhat needed a full size truck and that was a good one. Very reliable. But I got tired of the size of it and the ride and the crappy gas mileage so it was replaced by the Ridgeline. Yes that's right I replaced a Tundra with a Honda Ridgeline and it will do everything I need it to do in almost luxury SUV way.
If people could get past their image issues they would see the value here. For 40k ( or less) you get a swiss army knife of vehicles.

I’ve owned small and mid-sized pick ups for 40 years. I’ve worked in and driven many full -sized in that same time.
My last truck was the 2009 Ridgeline. Now I have a 2018 Ridgeline.
The utility, driving comfort and reliability are unbeatable, that’s why I went back to the Ridgeline.
It’s the best winter vehicle, with the in-bed trunk it give the room of an 8’ bed. That trunk will keep your tools from getting stolen. It’s also a great place to put your game if you hunt since the trunk is washable and drainable.
With the AWD system you avoid the typical , and annoying, rear wheel step out in slippery conditions or when leaving a light in the rain.
Trust me, leave the testosterone at the door when you go to the dealership and you will not be disappointed.
If you need to rock crawl by a 1995 Cherokee and build that to suit with the money you save not buying a $80,000, 50 year old design, big three truck.

For those who say the Ridgeline is not a "real truck" because of its unibody construction, that is not a valid argument. It is not the same as a typical passenger car unibody. It has a frame like a traditional BOF truck, but instead of being bolted on, it is integrated with the body. The Jeep Grand Cherokee also has a unibody design.

I love mine. There are somethings I wish it had or could do, but they are only wants, not needs. Mostly I wanted the AC seats and working seat heaters that Canada gets. On my 30min drive to and from work my seat heaters come on about 20min in.
Otherwise I wish I could tow more, but I don't need that right now. I want to hopefully get a car trailer to move a small tractor or cars around. But no need yet.
I love the trunk for groceries and other storage. Plus with the trunk I can haul the same amount of firewood total as my friend's 6ft bed Tacoma. That doesn't include the fold up rear seats.

As a ridgeline owner, I have to disagree. I'd say that 3/4's of truck owners could get by with a car or small cross over and just borrow/rent one the two times a year they actually tow something or use the bed for outsized or loose cargo and save literally tens of thousands of dollars in fuel and loan payments (trucks are incredibly expensive these days, even base model gas job half tons can go for 50k cad). As for those of us that use them semi regularly but not professionally, I'm a firm believer in late 90's beater wagons and a commuter car as my daily, because, again, you will save 10's of thousands of dollars in fuel and loan payments (not to mention up keep and insurance) and you won't feel any where near as bad when you inevitably scratch or dent it. At the end of the day, they're work vehicles, and what you spend your money on is your prerogative, just make sure that A) you can handle the payment's, because you will get tired of them before they get tired of you, and B) that you actually want it and are not just doing it to fit in with a group of people whom you regard as friends, because, I guarantee that if you run into financial trouble, that few if any of them will rush in to hand you money to keep paying for your blinged out 21st century Chuck wagon.

Its funny how people bash the Ridgeline yet it has had certain features that REAL trucks are just now getting almost 15yrs later. The first Composite bed and now manufactures are doing that, it had lights in the bed now everyone is doing that, it has a trunk now everyone is giving some kind of storage in the bed(ways smaller than the ridgeline), it has multi-way tailgate now everyone is doing that, 8 Tie downs in the bed new REAL trucks in 2020 in some cases they are still options and all of these features were standard in 2006 on the Ridgeline. While you may hate the Ridgeline you can thank the Ridgeline for all your REAL truck bed conveniences.

The fact they have a lot of good ideas on this “truck”. Like the little touches they add if put on a Ford or Toyota would sell like crazy. I think if they took that dna they use from their ATV, sxs, and dirt bike area and put it into a truck they would have a winner. If they make a good actual truck I’d love to buy it.

Honda reliability is awesome, don't get me wrong. BUT, it you are hauling a big camper or large trailer or want to put large items in the bed, this is the wrong truck for you! Buy an older Chevy or Ford to haul big items. For an all around truck that has some style and some utility, the Ridgeline is great. Just don't overestimate your towing capacity and the capabilities of AWD. Hauling is hard on the transmission.

Depends how old you are. In your 20s you want a tough lookin Tacoma/Jeep. In your 30s a Ranger/Colorado cause they look good but also comfy for that commute cause now you have a job. If you over 40, your life is over and the only thing you need a truck for is to go to Home Depot and get fertilizer and plants for your mother in law otherwise your wife will yell at you so you get a Ridgeline cause face it no one is looking at you and you might as well be comfortable in your valuable alone time.

I must say my opinion of this truck has changed over the last while. They aren't really common around here so they aren't front of mind. Also, IMO the first gen was HIDEOUS. I think this 2nd gen looks really good though. If I can talk my wife into getting rid of our big 5th wheel and getting a smaller trailer then I'd seriously consider this to replace my current Duramax 3/4 ton Chevy.

Honda doesn't advertise their vehicles as much as the other manufacturers do. When's the last time you saw a Honda commercial? Most people just don't think 'Honda' when they think 'trucks'. That's a conundrum because the Ridgeline is absolutely the best midsize pickup truck on the North American market. Doubt it? Take one for a test drive after you have driven all the others, including Toyota. Take the time to look at the exceptional features the thing has; there are several. Then pull out your check book, 'cause you're buying a Ridgeline .. no doubt about it. I did. And 10k later I know I made the right choice.

I drove over a rock that a Ford Ranger 4x4, RAM 4x4, and F-150 4x4 all drove over with no problems... My Ridgeline ended up with $8,000 worth of damage, all of it the bumper cover and underneath! For the price tag, it doesn't even come with skid plates!!! Plus the towing capacity is only 5,000 lb. It's a soccer-mom's version of a truck!

I have a question that a lot of truck reviews don't cover, which I suppose makes sense because you're typically covering brand new vehicles.
How does this vehicle compare when it's 8-10 years old? Would you still pick this over something like a Silverado or f150? How does reliability compare to the competition?
I ask all of this because I'm in the market for a truck. I don't buy brand new because a a vehicle with 2/3 life left it it typically sells for less than half of the original msrp with most makes (Toyota's seem to break that mold, but that's maybe for another discussion).
A lot of 8-10 year old trucks I'm looking at are around the same price irregardless of their original msrp. I can set my parameters to $10-12k and have options from virtually all makes and models (obviously not talking the 2500's and onward). Is there a reason to still consider the ridge line? Or is price sensitivity one of the main concerns when speaking of a ridge line?
