  • October is already over. In these rocks it becomes quite cold as soon as the sun goes down. I should pull out my warm jacket but I must not make a move. I'm watching the chamois already in winter fur (Rupicapra, rupicapra). I'm completely quiet because I know that every move or noise could scare the animal and make it escape. She is aware that I'm up there, stands completely still and quiet, listening and watching all around. Probably because of curiosity, it's just as patient as me. It's going to be a really long shot ... according to direction of her sight I can see where the rest of herd suppose to be ... fifteen with probably two males as I have seen before. But I can not see the others from here nor I will, today. It is getting dark ... my tent is quite far from here. ...
    I've put this footage in real-time just to describe the time that has always been different ... there somewhere in the wild, unlike the rhythm of life that man lives today. (Pavle Balenovic: The Diary - Velebit).
    HRVATSKI PRIJEVOD: ---------------------------------------------------------------------
    Listopad već odmiče. U stijenama postaje prilično hladno čim sunce zamakne. Trebao bi obući jaknu no nesmijem se niti pomaknuti. Promatram divokozu. Neću ih stići vidjeti ... uskoro će noć a šator mi nije baš blizu.

      You know ... stories are just for to be told and the experience to help others to achieve the same as I did. It has been quite a joy to film them but also a pleasure to share this film.

      Bilo je lepo i sunčano za to doba godine iako ne za spavanje u tim stijenama ... vedre noći su jako hladne no po susretu s tim stadom zaboraviš sve teškoće.
      Uskoro će zima i snijeg a taj me kraj uvijek privlačil ... pa ću vjerojatno imati prilike posjetiti ga uskoro. Lepi pozdrav Robert i hvala na posjeti.

      It has bee quite a nice chance to make such the shots. I've spent quite a lot of time with them there in that cold, rocky environment. I know the area well for I have been tracking wolves since long ago there. Take a time and check the rest of my uploads ... hope you'll find something more interesting from my own experience ... all on wilderness and wildlife in general. Thanks for stopping by.

      At this time of the year to other wildlife it is not easy to approach on this area so I went to visit them knowing I can find them. They are hiding themselves and are well organized ... some are always on guard from above, warning with whistle in case of possible danger. ... dusk or dawn is the best time to expect them but in that rocky area it can be extremely cold especially if you have to stay still and wait hidden in one spot most of the time.

    In the Czech Republic these animals were introduced from the Alps. I have seen them in the wild but only for a long distance. Your video is beautiful, the animal is quiet. Thank you very much for mediating such an experience. Thank you very much. Jarmila

      @PavleBalenovic  Před 5 lety +1

      It takes time to approach them any close for they are very cautious. I used to spend a few days in the area where I know they are and usually at dusk and dawn
      I wait hidden. Silence is the most important ... almost like in hunt. But my weapon is camera. But through all those years I believe that some animals really accepted me almost like a well known friend.

    Pavle, I don't think there can be anything more exhilarating and humbling than being accepted by a wild, flighty animal such as this Chamois, who knows quite well that man, any man, could be a danger. The fact that she knows that you are there is a testament to both you and her that patience and trust are the key in all situations. Not moving is only one of the factors involved. True knowledge of this particular animal's habits are the key as to whether you succeed or fail to gain her trust. I know you have vast experience in this field having filmed many animals in your lifetime. Filming in real time also shows just how long her curiosity and willingness to stay on site helped to make this peaceful film possible on the Velebit mountain. Bravo, my dear friend....an excellent teaching film for all would be film makers.

      In autumn it is not easy to find animals although they are even much more active as they are preparing themselves for the winter. While many others hibernate, these are out ready to spend all the winter out. They changed the coat so they look darker now even behave different. There, I had really to move extremely cautiously and slowly with no sound at all to get any closer to them.They hear perfectly but I believe there is always a kind of curiosity so that they too want to meet some new friends in their life. I have seen that herd few times years before and tried to live them in their peace and tranquility each time. Filming them takes long time... to approach the area with often some climbing. As waiting for the shot in the spot takes time ... sitting in all those those rocks isn't pleasant at all. October is cold. I must say that it isn't as in winter but my finger on recording switch wasn't responding on my commands as I expected. But here it is ... I believe this is quite nice adventure and another experience I managed to record.
      Thanks you for your nice comment. (YWM)

      First, it is nice to hear from you again. Hope it is all well on your side of the planet. Time is passing on quickly and we all experience a lot of changes in our lives and nature especially. Wilderness is where from I am getting all the strength needed to pass over all the troubles living in this modern world. Every damage done to the wild is hard to be accepted because this is where we all belong. Such the areas where these animals live in harmony prove that untouched wilderness still exists. I am glad I managed to film this little sequence to be able to share my experience with my friends. Thanks for stopping by ...you are always welcome.

    Bok, čini mi se da je dio kadrova od našeg izleta. Zanimljivo je vidjeti koliko su zapravo divokoze oprezne i kako dobro čuju zvukove. Izgleda da se kreću u sumrak kada prestaju vjetrovi koji pušu tokom dana i koji su im smetnja, a kada sunce zađe kao da se čuje svaki šum kojeg stijene dodatno pojačavaju.

    • @PavleBalenovic
      @PavleBalenovic  Před 5 lety

      Često kombiniram arhivske snimke sa novijim snimkama, naročito ako se radi o istom prostoru ili istoj vrsti životinja; mislim da ima smisla a i neke zanimljive snimke iz prošlosti koje su često bar meni gotovo neponovljive, tako spasim od zaborava.
      Istina, oni kadrovi na početku u "wide screen"u filmski rečeno su ti naravno prepoznatljivi. Ono kasnije u 4:3 standard formatu snimljeno je već prilično davno. A divokoze ? ... od toga kakav fantastičan sluh imaju pa do onih tipičnih akrobatskih kretnji bez alpinističke opreme i GPSa su zaista nenadmašive. Zapravo, možda te ovom prilikom atmosfera navela na takve zaključke no češće bi ih osobno viđao upravo za vrijeme jačeg vjetra (bure) koji ih tada čini se čak kamuflira a one i dalje dobro čuju. Zapravo kao da znaju da mi, kao njima jedna od opasnosti gotovo ne čujemo ništa. Znal sam ležati u zoru u vreći čekajući da malo ugrije i bar malo nestane vlage a još za priličnog vjetra, čak bez obzira na smjer pojavio bi se jarac na litici promatrajući me dugo sasvim svjestan da do njega ne mogu. Koji puta bi pogledom otkrio za koga čuva stražu a stado bi bilo uvijek negdje niže. Onaj tipični zvižduk i pokoji udarac nogom o kamen znak su ostalima da nisu sami. Prilično su oprezne i to je dobro ... znaš i sam da upravo oni tzv."sportaši" koji ih u svojim "lovno-turističkim" pohodima traže nišanom, nekažnjeno zanemaruju granice zaštičenih područja a sve češće se može zaključiti da se to i prešutno dopušta. Neka bude i tako dok jednom ne nestanu pa ih nećemo niti viđati.
      Jesmo li ih uopće zaslužili ?

    Quite a beautiful creature, love the facial markings. Looks to be about 35 or 40 kilos? The Chamois must have a pretty broad range across Europe and Asia, seems I first saw them in a film from much farther East?
    Have to give you alot of credit for your patience in filming, very hard to sit and wait, even in such lovely surroundings. It is getting to where my body protests prolonged spells of inactivity, cramps and such. Always a pleasure to see your work.

    • @PavleBalenovic
      @PavleBalenovic  Před 5 lety

      Oh yes, the patience that occupies quite a lot of space in my rucksack ... when following them it is often not possible to eat because they would hear me. It really takes time but once I find the way where to approach and if I am successful I believe they accept me. They easily see that I do not want to ruin their peace nor am I hiding any bad intentions. If I can stay with them there is other wildlife that can be seen. They are on the guard for every living creatures in the area. September is always cold there, bones easily get frozen when waiting still in those rocks. The only warmth is in the heart and I might say love for those magnificent creatures and freedom they live in. When I watch these scenes filmed I always remember shaking from cold first ...
      Thanks Robert.

    I saw them in the Vosges were they were reintroduced successfully. And i saw them in the Vercors. The ones in the Vosges could be approached quite easily, the ones in the Vercors were quite shy..

      They are generally extremely cautious ... even well organized in that way to survive against predators, hunters especially ... you know, one of them or few always on guard, then that typical whistle warning, etc. but their experience tells them whom to suspect as potential enemy. Perhaps I didn't enter into their "black list of enemies".

      At 3.45 one was just watching as a group p assed by. Maybe because in the Vosges there is a hunting ban for them they aren't so scared. Like the mountain goats, they just climb a steep rock and think they are save.. (for wolves yes, hunters no) I saw big groups of them in the evening coming in the open fields.. but that was before i used a decent camera...

      It is amazing to hear that there is no hunting ... in the time when I can see more and more hunting videos on this network. It is hard to understand how big interest public has towards such the things like killing the animal. Here, all around the park there are hunting areas so each grown animal that needs to find its own territory and find new home enters into risky space for survivor. Tourists that pay decent amount of money are hunters from abroad. How wouldn't these goats become scared then? You can notice them from big distance running or spot a guard watching from the rocky peaks in the morning or evening bit close encounters are rare ands last a second. What helps them survive is only that hostile rocky area which they have chosen for their home to be ... where predators including man can't approach easily. The shot you told me to check is amazing, I can hardly imagine such the occasion to have here and to film it. Could be even a different kind of similar species. Who knows...

      @@PavleBalenovic www.lalsace.fr/haut-rhin/2016/08/27/le-chamois-depuis-60-ans-dans-les-vosges
      What i understood was chamois reintroduced in 1956, after extinction by hunting. Now spread out even out of the national park due to reintroduction of lynx. No commercial or private hunting allowed in all French national parks. They do hunt as measure of population control or when a disease is present. Like swine flu for instance concerning wild boar. However hunting is very popular in France. More than a million registered hunters. The flipside is that the countryside is thus still very very rough and natural. Unlike holland where there is no space for big wild life and hunting for that matter. Exept the parks i visit of course😁
      It is a complicated matter with much invalid arguments for and against hunting, regulating.. pfhh politicss....

    • @PavleBalenovic
      @PavleBalenovic  Před 5 lety

      Whole the Europe is still in the same problems ... it seems that we would like to "own" something that was damaged long ago. The progress during the past simply ruined most of the nature. What ever was on our way we moved or killed. Some feel sorry for that now. There is no way back ... I'd even say that what ever we try will be wrong with unexpected consequences. To decide where to spend life is on wildlife not on us.
      We here, often experienced faulty and wrong decisions in organized reintroducing of animals. Most of projects went really bad ... for just one example ... now we have an overpopulated area on the islands with Wild boars (tourism, hunting). How to get rid of them now? No need to mention anything more. This is when man makes rules. I could name many similar cases that didn't ended well and caused troubles for both, people and wildlife. Scientists today? ... honestly I do not trust them much after what they have been supporting when regulations were made by politicians.You can't imagine how the borders of our National parks were organized. Kid would also know how to draw straight lines. How can I trust them? We all know what the National parks have to be ... and what they are organized for. Here it is like a compromise between public and hunting lobbies.
      Money wins always.
