  • Join us on the trip with Land Rover along the Velebit mountain wilderness.
From childhood I feel that connection with nature. Affiliation. Growing up, I realized that life is actually taking us somewhere else. Not where we belong. I could not even imagine how would my first visits to the wilds affect me. By the time an immense love and passion was created and all in my life I subordinated and devoted to that. By my recordings, memories and adventures I rarely remember unless someone reminds me, it is not difficult to conclude that behind me is actually a huge life experience. If there was no passion like mine, it would't be possible to withstand the challenges such accompany us all during our lives today. There I pulled the power and energy from and I do not know if there is actually any other way for a person like me. The way to the mountain. It's not easy to explain to those who do not understand and today it's more than ever so ... many do not really know what they are losing. Nature is where we all belong.
Someone said these words once so I wrote them down to remember:
"I live in a small house with her windows looking at huge world.
Every day it shapes our lives as water forms rock. Life is a journey to enjoy
and the path that best teaches us how to live is the way to the mountain".
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
HRVATSKI: Od djetinjstva osjećam tu povezanost s prirodom. Pripadnost.
Put u planinu. Nije lako objasniti onima koji ne razumiju a danas je takvih možda više nego ikad ... mnogi zapravo ne znaju što gube. Priroda je mjesto gdje svi mi jedino pripadamo.

Very wonderful return to the mountains. Once in us, the mountains never really leave. You're so right - so many need nature today. It's sad that so many ignore the natural world. I thoroughly enjoyed that film Pavle!

Your words should hear the whole world.
My childhood is a time with wild nature around me.
A short time of urban life and ... escape to nature.
    Civilization loses human instincts.

Lucky you. But it was quite similar with me except that I am still living in the middle of the city but in an green area that remained from the past ... family houses with usually quite big gardens but the raising city is all over around ... growing even more and more. I always used to say ... the most important detail in my life is nature. There is nothing that could change that.

Thanks John. Hope you follow my descriptions I offer under each video.
It is not as easy for me to get to the mountains but I am trying hard to continue uploading. It has been quite long since I edited the last one to be uploaded but I entered into a kind of technical troubles with my PC configuration that became obsolete. What I would like the most is to upload the long film on my experiences with wolves that needs the commentary to be added only. For most of the people who live in so called richer countries it is very easy to deal with new quality computers and all the rest of things like vehicles to realize any idea. But I got use on that and I might even say that I found the way for my passion and love even with extremely little money. My truck that serves me since 1996 now is 30 years old and I am trying hard to keep it going. Hope my son will have the opportunity to get a newer one and continue my efforts if only on his own way. I am trying to introduce him and leave him some knowledge from my own experience.
Thanks for checking my channel. You are always welcome.

Dear Pavle, these are never to be forgotten memories in the old Land Rover, going boldly where no ordinary car would dare. Facing land slides and toppled trees across your path and coming out on top. What magnificent scenery to behold whether in fog or rain. And that little snail as well as the woodpecker pecking away at a branch while you and Tin were busily chopping apart that tree. What a time you must have had. I am so glad to know that you both arrived safely with no unsolvable mishaps along the way even though Pavle had a sore knee. Yes I saw you favoring that leg while you were doing that native war dance ha ha. Hope you rested it on your return. Just the right amount of music and bird sounds to make a most enjoyable video to watch and the two cameras meshed in well also. Very.very lovely film. Big thumbs up...

It was really nice trip, indeed. How could it ever be bad? You know well what is the meaning of it for a person like I am. I didn't even mention the troubles we entered into after filming those wide open panorama shots - when Tin filmed me walking on the road (I felt quite a pain in my knee especially after long sitting in the truck). There from we decided to go home or at least closer to any village or house before the dark ... without any possible chance to change gear and with no reverse at all we managed to get home that is less than 300 km away ... all in single third gear. The gear lever locking spindle got loose what Tin repaired himself the next day ... and the truck will be ready go travel again. Hope you can understand what was my dance by the road for and how did I feel.
All in all ... another experience or I might call it adventure.
If this is the only way for me to get to the mountain I will surely go again and again. I really do not need to explain that to you.
Thanks for your nice comment. YWM

Why would I watch your video again for the third time? Well for one reason because it reminds me of driving though Mt.Tremblant park alone or with my friend Pauline, either in my old Ford truck or her car and meeting much the same conditions along the road...rocks, downed trees etc and much the same topography with those massive firs on either side of the road. Pauline loved driving at night because the moose would use the roads to travel and we got to see many in the headlights of her car. I saw a moose sign while you were driving too. Mostly though I love the sense of peace I got when watching in spite of the noise that old rover was making ha ha. Driving quietly in the rain is like being in a sort of cocoon, quite cut off from the world. And always in the back of your mind, I am sure, is the chance of seeing a wolf or two.
Secondly for the situations with the axe in a kind of slo mo, trying to turn a rainy foggy trip into a fun situation. It is kind of amazing to see the trouble you went through to get your shots to really look professional by choosing different view points in which to feature your truck. If anyone takes the trouble to look, they could learn a lot.
And thirdly your shenanigans with the native dance routine..You had the sound track. All you needed was a fire, a stick and the astonished eyes of a horse to complete the scenario of Dances...very very creative, my dear. By the way I saw you favoring that knee long before the 'dances.'
But the chief thing was witnessing the comradeship between you and your son. This I believe is the most important element of that trip. Tin will remember these adventures to tell his children long after you are gone. But for now 'Live Long and Prosper.'

It is really great to realize that the area amazes you the way you said. I spent whole my life discovering it so it is surely worth respecting. It hurts a lot if I hear that any harm is done to the nature and wildlife. At the moment all kinds of changes are happening all around. Less and less wilderness will remain. We will surely pay for that. The damage is done and the consequences can't be avoided. Seems like all the civilization is absolutely aware of these facts but nothing is done yet. It is well known that there is no care nor respect for nature as by the nations like your ancestors have had. You must really be proud.
It has been long time since I uploaded my last video but I hope I will be back on normal as before and continue with new stuff soon. Oh yes ... the old truck has over 30 years on his back now serving me all through 22 years. It turned to be treated like a living being. Especially for it is Landrover that can easily accept all kinds of personal changes the owner makes. My son will continue with those four wheels perhaps because such an experienced truck will need no GPS to find the way for them both.
But the truth is that we had quite the accident and I had to drive through the mountains all the way home in just one gear left... the third because the gear-change lever spindle got loose that my son fixed the very next morning. This is in fact what my dancing by the road was for ... add to this the pain in my knee (motorcycle stunt in Zagreb on "Armour of God" with Jackie Chan where I broke it). Thanks for the comment.

@@spijkerpoes It is absolutely nice to see such the scene. Thanks for the link. They look lighter color to me ...compared to those of mine. Or it is just because of the camera type.
And it seems they came just a bit earlier- before the date we would expect wolf cubs in the area like our is. Mid May it is here.
I am prepared to check the bear area this month and try visiting wolves perhaps after summer for I missed to do that as I planned this winter and spring. I do not mind ... nature has its rules so the time will come for me to be there in the right moment, I am sure. It happened most of the time just this way although it often looked like coincidence.

Usually it is the same each year, every spring a lot of such the obstacles are on the roads. For those who travel first it is the worse as they have to cross them all. Often you can't turn back because of the nearest petrol station is ahead and you often run off the fuel after long driving through all those roads. Winters use to be harsh with a lot of blizzards and rain storms that cause the damage on the roads.
But this is the nature and we have to enjoy it the way it is and sure, respect it as much as we can. Thanks my friend for stopping by my channel and watching. As you know well, you are always welcome.

Once again I am watching your trip to the mountains and again I discover more..how you are not afraid of standing in the rain to get that all important shot after having chosen already the best place to film, whether how the old LR negotiates turning bends in the road or splashing through a puddle. You are a true professional in wanting to get the best vantage point for your films and just the right amount of music where it was needed. I love the old bear sounds when Tin hands you your well deserved coffee. However I didn't particularly like you lifting those heavy stones on the road. I could hear your back complaining. As well the chopping of the tree but I know that didn't concern you very much. And finally a respite from the rain and fog and a little walk to enjoy the beauty of that beloved mountain. And finally the moment I have been waiting for....your Dances with Wolves enactment and the long journey home limping all the way in third gear. You were right I needed to relax myself with watching yet again those enjoyable scenes with the old LR and that beautiful mountain my dear Pavle as I recuperate from several weeks of stress.

Pavle! Are you planning to go out in the mountains for this summer?

    • @PavleBalenovic
      @PavleBalenovic  Před 5 lety +2

I am, ... just as always. But the reality is usually different than planning no matter how we try the things do not happen as we would wish. I returned from the mountain just on the last day in May. Before that I haven't visited the mountains for months. Honestly summer months aren't much interesting for me because of that heat that is each year worse what makes any trip unpleasant for any body even for wildlife there. The rest of the year is I can say normal ... the only detail that I am trying not to miss is the time when bears start to show up in the open.
Usually they are in the forests where it is not quite good for filming and encounters last much shorter with less time for success in filming. In June they start to lead their cubs to the meadows when the grass becomes green.
Soon after they start turning the stones over in search for larvae what is delicious food for whole the bear family. If you notice them from distance their behavior remains natural and you can film them perfectly without any signs of fear and panic between them. This is why I will try to find some known families this month
just to count them if they are all alive and well. Then in the mid summer it becomes too hot and far to crowded on the roads because of all those tourists.
Imagine whole the EU with its 500 millions of people ... if just a small percent decide to cross our country towards their destinations what can that enormous traffic cause to those small areas with remaining wilderness (?).
This is the reason why I am avoiding any trip towards the south during summer vacations. But it can happen that if I am free, a weekend or so I can go just for a quick, short visit. Wildlife is hidden then away from the sun and resting ... taking good care not to be discovered.

I thought someone would notice that ... but in fact he said he will do that himself alone ... small hatchet but a bit more patience and sure more time. I was only afraid for behind the next corner another fallen tree could be waiting for us. It happens each spring after all those winter storms and blizzards. Seems like no one has passed through before us what means that the wildlife remained undisturbed, too. This year I wasn't quite lucky to visit the mountains because of a few reasons but hope we will both continue the same trip further on, soon.
Wolves ? In fact I missed the right time for them, even the bears I know will soon start avoiding those meadows and openings because they are less and less green. Dry grass doesn't attract them. Thou, I still hope to be able to meet the big dark male I have seen few years ago but higher in the rocky area. Once they enter deeper into those dark forests it is not easy to be that fast on focus ring and get sharp shots. I would really like my son to be with me and see that beautiful creature. Mid summer wasn't as successful for me as the rest of the year. Besides, the tourists visit the mountains in much bigger numbers what is another problem for me and the wildlife I plan to find. You understand that well, I am sure.
Recently I partially repaired my PC and continued with editing ... and uploaded just a few videos after quite a long time. That pushed me back somehow but I will find the way to go on again. I do not believe that I will be able to edit any 4K footage soon because my configuration can't support that resolution now. The changes on this network caused another troubles and I stopped receiving notifications from quite a lot of people I contact with. But I have heard that the others experienced similar problems , too.
Hope it will all be solved soon and come to order again.

Have a fine excursion together with your son next time and all the best, for your Defender too.

@@fuchsfilm Oh yes, things are changing. Most great products are gone once for ever especially filming devices and trucks that were even easy to be repaired at home. No need to recall the days when that digital picture quality started raising ... especially the format compression that went so far high that software simply couldn't support it in editing. But this new technology became affordable for many enthusiasts ...allowed and enabled the people like we are to finalize the "projects" we worked on, ourselves alone. I remember how It was impossible even to imagine when I was a kid when I started dreaming about forests, mountains and animals especially. I am glad that I managed to spend quite a lot of time and years dealing with them. That gives me the biggest satisfaction no matter what troubles I had to pass through the life. In my soul I feel myself happy just because of that. I am sure you understand that well. Through the time I got some companions that followed my way, some living some made of metal ... like those trucks that we relied on all over the time. That old Defender served me more than well so I can at least guess what your 16 years old car means to you. Long ago I spent some time in the mountains with a good old friend from Wales ... he was amazed of the environment, the wilderness and surprised what the old truck managed to pass through ... besides that white truck used to be our home in the wild ... at least for awhile. He named it "The White Rhino" and still often sends me the message:
"Take care dear friend and give the old White Rhino a pat for me, surely a wonderful vehicle which must have covered many thousands of miles". No need for any more words. Tin, my son, he is going to continue listening that noisy engine that speaks about the adventures with his father through so many years.
Enjoy your next trip and take care my friend.

@@PavleBalenovic Thanks for your encouraging words my friend. Yes, you are right. The nature and the wildlife animals give so much power to us that, even in hard times, we can enjoy in mind of passed adventures. The video camera help us to fix some special moments which we can admire, when we are so old that we cann´t leave home :-(.
Have a fine evening and take care to you and your White Rhyno, dear Pavle ♥.

    Man, I love my chainsaw!

In fact I had a lot of chances to be sorry for not taking the saw ... but it seams almost the same as taking the gun. You can guess what I mean ... often even the camera looked aggressive and there were times when I almost decided not to take it and use ever again. When you start to respect the nature the way I do now you wouldn't like to take anything away from it, flower, plant ... not even the photography. A lot of information about the location I have to keep secret for there are people who can use them and make harm to wildlife. Blocked road like the one that stopped us says that the nature there remained in peace for some time ... at least from fall, through whole the winter till the end of May when we appeared.

A chainsaw is a pretty brutal, noisy thing, it’s true. And there is a lot to be said for treading lightly and only using hand tools. You never run out of fuel, either! I know what you mean about the camera, I was in the forest in Wales once and a huge buzzard landed on a branch right in front of where I was sitting. My heart nearly stopped. I thought to reach for my ‘phone to take a picture, but I just couldn’t do it. Instead I just experienced the moment, seeing the bird for the full moment until it flew away. Only recorded in my memory. It was the best decision.

I understand that very well. I used to deal with wolves through quite a big part of my life and as it started to be pretty interesting from the beginning I decided to film at least some details. But then it turned to be something that is offered only to me what I realized when the bonding with that wolf pack became far too strong. I started to hate the camera and the way I used to behave... imagine a visit to a friend whom you haven't seen for long time and you stop the embracing asking ...wait I'll only set the camera to film this ... this is what I experienced with wolves although they allowed me to do that but was it OK from me? I didn't have the right to film such the details ... besides do the people really have to know all the secrets about wildlife and nature? It was enough for me ... no more filming. ...then I almost decided not to take my camera ever again. But then as I was aware that such the things won't happen ever again I continued "saving" those adventures on tape for to remember. Some of them are now uploaded here and published.
