  • New, edited and augmented version. Now includes shots from a drone and more.
    Certainly one of the nicest tourist railways in Europe, it connects Realp (Uri canton) to Oberwald (Wallis canton) over the Furka Pass. 4 different steam locomotives are shown. 3 of them are original from the line, one comes from the Viege-Zermatt railway: a very interesting locomotive. All are over 100 years old, even though they just look brand new.

    Brilliant video! I was going to visit the Furka Railwa this Summer but Covid put a stop to that! Maybe next year!

    Been watching your entire channel of videos, KochersbergTV. I've an old book by Victor Hand & H. Edmonson called "The Love Of Trains." That book could be republished because most every video of your publishing, most trains in that book(C1974) are in your videos or, vis-versa!

    Nice photography. It would be more better if vadapav ( maharastrian berger )was available on stations. Thanks

      Good suggestion, but unfortunately, I have no influence on the cooks in the stations.

    1:05 - 2:20 - What a curious' beat'! - What is the piston arrangement?

    • @KochersbergTV
      @KochersbergTV  Před 6 lety

      Indeed. They are normally 4 cylinders: two for the wheels and two (internal) for the cog system. The exhaust beat is quite strange, but I could not figure out whether this is normal or the consequence of a problem. Last year this locomotive (HG 2/3) was already doing the same sound.

    Quick mechanical question: When the loco's cog engages with the rack rail... how does that work? it seems like it would derail/damage the cog if the teeth of the cog hit the teeth of the rail....

    • @KochersbergTV
      @KochersbergTV  Před 2 lety

      The rack level is increasing progressively and the cog wheel is left to rotate freely until it is fully engaged.

    why no tender engines?

    • @KochersbergTV
      @KochersbergTV  Před 2 lety

      I am still to see a rack locomotive fitted with a tender. Anyway, the total distance of the line, about 37 km, would not justify a separate tender.

    cog railway?

    • @KochersbergTV
      @KochersbergTV  Před 6 lety

      Yes, on 90 per cent of the line. Flat parts, in railway stations and on level crossings have no rack.
