At 14yo I first saw Vikki on "The Glenn Campbell Show" (1968) and I immediately fell in love with her voice, her style and her humanity. I met her at age 21 at the Mill Run Theatre in Niles, IL. She had me brought back to her dressing room and treated me with the utmost respect and gave me over an hour of her personal time. I will never forget that time, it was one of the most moving events in my lifetime. ♥ Sadly though, she only stays in the south and will only record in Spanish. She has removed herself from an extensive group of people, who did know of her Latino heritage. I feel as though, she just upped, and walked away from all the people who truly respected her and knew how unique her talent was.
James: Vikki did not just up and walk away! Her recording contract with Columbia ended and she didn't receive offers from other companies who would promote her singing in english! She did, however, get a very good contract with CBS Mexico where she grew her Spanish audience! She also won 4 Grammy awards for those albums! She is no longer recording, but still performs to sell out crowds in both English and Spanish!
One time 35 years ago someone asked who I thought was the best female singer, I, w ithout a minutes thought said barbra, edie, piaf, connie, and vicki. I'm old and ready to go soon but I haven't changed my mind. Thank you
