- The circus of Dr Lao is a metaphor for Life. We find therein what we look for, and what we believe is there...
"To see a world in a grain of sand and heaven in a wild flower...,
Hold infinity in the palm of your hand and eternity in an hour."
- William Blake
I hope this clip will make you stop for a moment and consider the marvel that this life truly is....

Winter of 2000, I was homeless and couch surfing. A friend had a VHS with some movies recorded onto it, including this one. I watched it, never having seen it before. It helped me immensely in a difficult period in my life. This is one of my favorite scenes from that movie and I will treasure it always. Thank you for posting this.
Wow how are you now
@@recommendedforyou2936 I am much better, thank you.
I think the way Lao breaks it to the kid is usually how I've seen employers
sometimes sack people
I found 7 Faces of Dr. Lao at my library a few months back & it became one of my all-time favorites before it was even over. The next day I insisted my parents should watch it. Turns out it's one of my dad's all-time favorites as well, and I had no idea :) He's been working 12-14 hours a day for months now so he tends to be in a bad mood, but when that movie started his face lit up like I've only seen a few times in my life. I can't tell you how wonderful it was to see that childlike joy in him.
This is one of the best speeches in movie history, and so true! Being alive is a marvelous thing, and so many marvels out there go unnoticed or unappreciated, because people are either too busy to notice them, or simply take them for granted.
I’m going through some tough times right now. I’m still trying to believe “Being alive is fantastic.” Dr. Lao’s word of wisdom will get me through.
@@jogman262 A very good buddy of mine was also homeless with health problems. He would tell you to hang on.
This movie has a deep esoteric meaning. If you know how to read the symbols. Dr. Lao = spirit, merlin = mind, medusa = vanity, Pan = sexual, Apolonio of tyana= wisdom conciesness, etc.
This would make a great double-feature with Something Wicked This Way Comes. The Light and The Dark!
This movie helped shape my worldview as a child.
When Randall drops the accent to grab the boys attention... GENIUS!
What a National Treasure was Tony Randall.
some say Casablanca others say citizen Kane I say the 7 faces of Dr Lao is the best movie ever made
Mike: “I don’t understand.”
Dr. Lao: “Neither do I!!”
Jumps over Mike, starts dancing joyfully. How great.
Mike, let me tell you something. The whole world is a circus if you know how to look at it. The way the sun goes down when you're tired, comes up when you want to be on the move. That's real magic. The way a leaf grows. The song of the birds. The way the desert looks at night, with the moon embracing it. Oh, my boy, that's... that's circus enough for anyone. Every time you watch a rainbow and feel wonder in your heart
one of the best movies ever made has stuck with me since my childhood
I fell in love with this movie before I finished watching it the first time. The next day I excitedly told my parents I wanted to share a wonderful movie I'd found & that it had became one of my all time favorites overnight. I started the movie & my dad began crying as soon as he recognized it, and he rarely ever shows his emotions. Turns out it's one of his all-time favorites too, he hadn't seen it in decades. I had no idea. Thank you for uploading this scene, it's by far my favorite :)
Such beauty.... this is how we cope with the corruption on Earth. We SEE the beauty intended.
Thank You!!!Finally someone that understands the magic!!! I try to live my life with that outlook... No matter what, being alive is FANTASTIC! I have a collection of movie memoribilia from this movie in my living room to remind me everyday, the magic of life!!My greatest wish is to make someone see that magic. To give hope, to give wonder. I guess to give...That's the magic.. Once again, thank you!
1:37 changed my whole life.
I am giving the dvd of this movie to three of my nieces and a cousin for Christmas. I hope they love it as much as I do.
I loved his fireworks rocks.
Every time you pick up a handful of dust, and see not the dust, but a mystery, a marvel, there in your hand. Every time you stop and think, "I'm alive, and being alive is fantastic!" Every time such a thing happens, you're part of the Circus of Dr. Lao.
That is a great line. One the best in any film.
A master piece get it if you can't cause it's a hard movie to find and expensive ..good luck and what a great lesson dr Lao .
Tony Randall deserved an Oscar.
He stole every Scene he was in. I think, Counting his Characters, he was in every scene. The Movie is a Morality Trip. I think it did not get the Respect that it deserved. I still tear up at the Scene when little Mike asked Dr. Lao if he may join the Circus. Fabulous job, Fabulous Movie.. Shame it didn't really when anything
childhood memories of this movie. Tony RAndall very cool. All round character actors very good.
You know, I was only about 7 years old (late 1960's) when I first saw this wonderful magical gem of a movie, but it still stay's in the old memory bank even to this day. Great stuff! Now don't get me wrong, but if any one were to consider doing a remake (shock horror!!) then I guess there's only one person for the task.......SO MR SPIELBERG, IF YOUR'E READING THIS.......HINT HINT.
I saw this movie when it first came out. I loved it then. Still love it after all these years.
Read the book; that's REALLY strange!!
One of my top 3 faves of all time
LOL! I love that cricket scene. But I love this movie more then so many others.
True magic! The magic of Charles Beaumont.....
Fuck this... This movie is fantastic... It pisses me off that they don't distributed this movie in italy... Or at least they can dub and sell it on dvd!
excellent.
Great comment! I feel the same way.
I did some colour adjustment on this clip. Let me know what you think.
I heard about this movie from Joel in MST3K. Yeah, I know.
I see someone had the misfortune of sitting through a Joe Don Baker film too huh?
Nesto Navalo LOL!!!
Dr. Lao: Mike, the whole world is a circus if you look at it the right way. Every time you pick up a handful of dust, and see not the dust, but a mystery, a marvel, there in your hand, every time you stop and think, "I'm alive, and being alive is fantastic!" Every time such a thing happens, Mike, you are part of the Circus of Dr. Lao.
Dr. Lao: Every time you pick up a grain of sand you hold a universe in the palm of your hand.
He a Medicine Man
What's funny is Michael Jackson wanted to do a remake of this..
