Te Matatini pōwhiri discussed during Tuurangawaewae poukai

Land rights in Central Auckland between Waikato Tainui and Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei remains a hot topic, nearly three weeks on from the public disagreement during the Te Matatini pōwhiri. This comes as the poukai rounds of the Kiingitanga conclude today at Tuurangawaewae marae. Te Okiwa Mclean has more.

@@fastmoney6092 bro don't make me laugh. The airport is on Waikato land, the museum is on Waikato land. Ihumatao is under the hapu of Waikato. Quite a fair amount of south Auckland is under the hapu of Waikato. Waikato have mana whenua status in tamaki makaurau.

Once you're gathered on the atea, anything goes. If an iwi has an issue with an iwi, matatini is exactly that.
Iwi vs Iwi. Maori unity is a colonial thing. Before that, Iwi vs Iwi. Now that its all in the open, maybe they'll sort it out.
