I think this game is going to be interesting. I just hope the Boks are not complacent, not with the Irish. We need to be brutally clinical and stamp out authority, particularly in the scrums. I hope that we cottoned onto the dark arts of the Irish in the last game. Kudos to them for giving us uphill in the one department the Boks excel in. (at least in the first half).
All in all it has been very nice having the Irish team and supporters here, nice folk.
I sincerely hope the the All Blacks play a better game this weekend. The game i saw for them last week was not up to their usual immaculate standard of play. This game also promises to be epic.

  • @bernardswart2019

From what I can see, the last time Ireland lost two consecutive tests was February 2021, given that the NZ maori loss is not considered an official test by IRB? They've definitely been the form team in the last 3 years in World Rugby, if the Boks and the ABs get the job done on the weekend it would definitely feel like a shift in power between North and South. If either Ireland or England win their matches this weekend, they will leave the rsspective shores feeling the happier of the two drawing parties I reckon.

Ahh very interesting what you told us about Nigel Owen’s analysis of the use of the TMO after the James Lowe try. Then that is despicable that 1. It was used, and 2. That the Ref called for it. Water under the bridge now but ………………

    • @Hiltok
      @Hiltok Před 22 dny +1

Even if Nigel Owens is right that the TMO should not have intervened, it was still the decision of the onfield ref to agree with him. I've seen more and more refs look at footage shown by the TMO and come to a different decision than the one the TMO suggested. The decision was ultimately the decision of Luke Pearce. My complaint about the TMO was that if he was good enough to spot Kelleher being just off his feet before his boot helped the ball back in a messy ruck, he should have been good enough to see Kolbe offside at the kick-off where he charged down Lowe's clearance kick. But that would have really embarrassed the onfield ref and AR's.

He had made claims against Sexton that the Disciplinary panel rejected and were critical of his claims. He was also responsible as an AR (again) for the yellow card on Beirne in the Wales game in this years 6Ns where he basically bullied the Italian ref Piardi . Again as a AR he was involved in the Scotland game disallowing a try by Furlong where it was impossible for him to see from his position as a AR.He was also an AR in last weeks game with South Africa. In Kolbe’s try, the ref shouldn’t have said on field decision is a try, but rather asked the TMO to decide try or no try. In both instances there’s no suggestion that the rules of the game weren’t followed but rather mere opinions of someone who’s very knowledgeable on the laws and highly regarded in WR and me who just enjoys rugby and finds some of the laws debatable and refs decisions questionable. I have to say, I was perplexed by Nigel Owen's intervention on this Whistle Watch video. He said that they try should have stood because playing the ball off the ground was "technical". But it directly lead to the try.
Go back 2 years, where SA vs Wales, where SA had a try disallowed because Malcolm Marks didn't retreat from a box kick (but had no impact on the try being scored) and that was fine. But diving over the ball, securing it illegally leading to a try isn't something we should come back for? huh?
If going off you feet to steal a ball isn't something to be called out then change the law to allow it. But right now it's illegal, so the try was invalid.

I think the bigger issue is there was so much more going on at that ruck. Kelleher was neck rolled into the ball, he was perfectly legal before that, questionable entries from both sides, Aki possibly going off his feet. I think all us fans want is consistency, whatever the outcome. For the record, I don't think the try should have stood, but I do think Ireland were unlucky not to be given a penalty for the neck roll on Kelleher. It seemed to be the "most serious" of all the offences

@@Cpchurch87 The Neck roll is contentious for me.
A traditional neck roll is performed to clear out someone. It's used as a dangerous way to get an unfair advantage. Like a croc roll.
But Kelleher puts his head though Le-Roux arms and pushes him off balance. He's clearing Le Roux out. It's not a straightforward neck roll, since he arguably did it to himself.
Is a high tackle still a high tackle when the ball carrier bends over and dives at the knees of a tackler? No, it's not viewed that way. And I think this "neck roll" was the same.

The reason I suspect for the change with that policy is due to the number of South Africans wishing to leave South Africa for economic reasons. It is somewhat funny that South Africans are leaving South Africa in their droves to the EU , especially as South Africa is one of the World's wealthiest nations, a member of the G20 and of BRICS and yet they can't support their own people.

After the World Cup Qtr final where Ireland was knocked out (again) by a great ABs team, and also after Leinster lost this years Champions Cup and Munster was knocked out of the URC, I honestly didn't want to watch any Rugby videos for the following week. Its bonkers but I needed time to "heal". Sport is such a great mirror of real life, we all have good days and bad days. I am living for the U20 games at the moment and of course this weekends big senior games. Could England beat the ABs ? Could Ireland beat the Bokkes ? Could Wales win a game ? (!) Not sure if you are following the U20 World Cup but there are some juicy semi-final games on this weekend. My prediction is another Ireland v. France final. But, I would love to see Ireland win the final against the sublime ABs.
Just to confirm, am I still the first ?

Just remember that World Rugby has a trial going on, with expanding the TMO involvement. SA and Ireland approved the trial, that World Rugby requested.

I hope this weekend's referee will take care of the Irish backrow's consistent offside play at the rucks and mauls. How come no other team's loosies have ever put so much pressure on Faf than the Irish last weekend? Because no team's backrow has ever been so consistently offside since the days of Richie McCaw. May the best team win! Cheers from Safferland chaps! 🇿🇦

Springboks need to go there and stamp there authority as world number 1 and world champions.
The Springboks were experimenting at Loftus,by playing a game like the ABs,dnot think they will do the same in Durban they will revert back to there game on Saturday, Springboks by 15.

@@TwoCentsRugbyplajorism! But ja I was gonna say the Aussies consider themselves to be green and gold too. Although it's more gold and green... in any case, they need to re identify, take some tips from California and transition to simply gold. Or orange.

I do not always agree with the bomb squad coming on like that. It has a great visual and probably some psychological part to play, but someone like Kolisi and Kwagga was playing well and think needed more game time. Plus it put us in a difficult siutation if we did get some forward injury, as just over half the game was still to play. So a bit of gamble there by Rassie.
Would rather have seen Sacha come on earlier and save Pollard for Durban, and get him some extra practice time to sorting out that kicking :-)
Let's hope that the quality goes up this week, as they the same team now should have had some time to gel a bit more.

To say the TMO shouldn’t have come in for a technical call on that Ireland try… who decides that? If the TMO is instructed to review everything in the build up to a try (as instructed for this series), and he spots something, does Nigel really expect him to say: “I spotted what I believe is an infringement and I need the ref to see it, but it’s kinda technical so let’s just skip it.” Seriously????
