So my manager walked up to me and said, I need to “smile”and appear more friendly, I made the previous customer afraid. This is why I no longer live in Arizona.

It's an age old stereotypical mindset against blacks. White ppl feel threatened, nervous by us when we look serious or have no smiles on our faces. It comes from whatever white guilt their carrying so we're expected to make them feel comfortable and at ease around us by faking a smile. All that bullshit comes from their white guilt, white privilege mindset and inferiority complex.
As a transgender woman I don't understand how Caitlyn Jenner not see that is she weren't already famous before transitioning, or rich or white she wouldn't have so much faith in the country either.

I have said the same thing too often. Us Caribbean women use our hands a lot when we speak because we are expressive. I can remember growing up and seeing older women throw their skirt or arms when speaking. Not because they were arguing or fighting...just because they were talking about something juicy. Now a days everything you do as a black woman is labeled aggressive.
Many passionate peoples are known for this. Common stereotype of the Mediterranean (Italians and Greeks), and Latinos, as well. Not hardly exclusive to us Africanesques.

I know what you mean. But to be fair, in the culture that usa was first thrust upon (ie europeans/white ppl), using hands is a emphasis for what you’re saying. So when someone points, raise their arms, etc., it is perceived as emphasis for what they’re saying vs. sitting still. So if i’m talking about my birthday and waving my hands around, someone might see me as being extra excited! Vs me pointing my finger at someone, or throwing my hands in exasperation, someone may find that to again, be adding onto a heated moment. I’m not saying one is right over the other, but just that that is why some people do find it to be adding to the conversation instead of just seeing it for what it is (ie harmless).

All to often as an AA when we speak about our experiences in this country (and others), we are accused of pulling the race card and because of this accusation, everything that we say falls on deaf ears. It's sad, right?? We are portrayed in movies, comedy shows, sitcoms, reality shows... anywhere and everywhere we are played, said and portrayed as the "hostile" character. You may/may not remember, but the old Judge Judy cases, the introduction of the show includes the narrator saying "Some get hostile!" And a black man is showed and he is saying "I'm just trying to tell you what happened." MIND YOU, he's chuckling as he's saying that!!! Hostile WHERE?? He's literally laughing as he makes his statement. We are always portrayed as hostile. It's so bad. I've had customers expect me to get mad and prepare for me to get angry, and I love to see their expression when I do the opposite of what they have been TOLD, that all black people are angry and hostile. You cannot push buttons to get a reaction, and then turn around and call us typical afterwards. I slap you in the face and then when I come back to return the favor, you cry and claim hostile? Huh?
