First... the bible tells us that the almighty God's throne is seated on these 4 foundation.. JUSTICE, POWER, WISDOM and LOVE. And for us to please him, we must try to display these qualities. Power we can't display as humans but love, justice and wisdom we can display. Notice that prayer is not part of the foundation of God's throne and it's because prayer is only a means for us to communicate with God and nothing more. However, the bible itself has told humans several times that what God wants is us human beings to love unconditionally, be just without any bias and read his bible so we can aquire his wisdom. HE DOESN'T WANT someone who prays all the time but don't do Good things. The bible has many account of God choosing people who do good over people who go to His temple to pray all the time.
Secondly... Jesus himself warned his followers about the behavior of the religious leaders and priests. Because they pray and observe every part of the commandments and laws but refuse to show poor people love, they take bribes to overturn justice and because of that God deprived them of his wisdom so that when He sent his begotten son Jesus to them, they didn't believe or recognize him. Therefore Jesus told the religious leaders and priests to their faces that their share will be destruction only because they lack love, justice and wisdom.
