The markers and tape are 100% useless. Tried this with just a finger and it worked just fine
Modern day mirrors are made using thin sheets of glass, painted with aluminium, they are lightweight and more durable. Old vintage mirrors are made with thicker heavier glass painted with mercury. The fingernails wont meet in the middle on those older ones. This technique is used to test vintage mirrors.
That’s to show it wasn’t edited, and prove it couldnt be
Yeah, I was just going to ask what the purpose of all that marking on the window was for. I got my answer.
😂😂😂😂😂
Putting your finger on the mirror is useless too, I hid a camera in every lamp
This does NOT indicate this is NOT double sided! Gap or no gap It can still be double sided! Only real way to test it is to turn off the lights and press the high power light on the mirror. If it's double sided you will be able to see the room behind the mirror! It's DOUBLE SIDED so it works both ways! Only thing that makes a difference which side sees another it the fact that the voyeur side is in total darkness, and the victim side is lit up!
This. I’m constantly amazed by people who don’t know this
All this test proves is how thick the glass is
What to do if it is a double sided mirror and someone is in there?
If it was a double sided mirror it woul reflect on both sides . But a 2 way mirror is the correct term. And you are absolutely correct on every other point. I learned this as a kid from both Mission Impossible tv show , & Get Smart tv show . Back in the 60s. This bs video is a scam for voyeurs to misslead people. It also doesent take a 2 way mirror the tiniest pin hole is all a camera needs to see through and if the camera is behind a 1 way mirror there only
Need be a dust speck sized bit of the mirror backing scraped off. Or it could be anywhere in the room walls , pictures any objeck could conceal the tinyest camera pearing through a dust speck sized hole.
So sleep tight kiddos. The boogy man is watching and youll never find the camera by just looking for specks on the walls or celing ,or lamp ,or dresser, or etc....
Muwahahahaha.......😈🤡👽

Here's to check for sure: Make the room dark (draw the curtains if it's daytime - most hotel drapes are of the blackout type). Put one eye right up against the mirror so your eyeball is almost touching the glass then turn on the flashlight of your smartphone and hold it against the mirror to the right or left of your face. @@suefalero5590 If you don't want to risk your ticker pegging-out then there's an alternative resolution that doesn't involve finding something behind the mirror that you don't want to find. Pack a roll of thick paper or card in your case. It'll need to be at least three feet wide and six feet long to cover a full-length mirror. You'll also need a lump of Blu-Tac. When you get to your hotel room, unroll the paper/card and stick it to the mirror with the Blu-Tac. You may have to trim it to size first so remember to pack a pencil and a pair of scissors. Oh, and of course, you'll also need to bring your own mirror otherwise you won't be able to do your make-up or shave because the mirror will be covered in a piece of card. Doesn't necessarily mean it is double sided, it just means the reflective surface is not behind a protective and transparent layer (cheap mirrors).
The other way around it could still be a double sided mirror if what she showed occurs, since the owner could have just been "intelligent" enough to add another transparent layer.
A more certain way to tell is if you check if the mirror is hung onto the wall or it is part of the wall.
Also you could turn off the light and press your face against the mirror to see if you can see through, additionally you could use a flashlight to shine through an illuminate the other side.

@@dawnw0324I've got something to tell you...
The last part sounds scary as hell!
Acrylic mirrors make it so your fingenail wont touch and is much harder to detect. You need to rub your fingernail across the surface of the mirror because it will have a different feel. Sometimes if its not the highest of qualities it will have some grayness to it as it absorbs more light than a standard mirror would. They are much harder to detect though so... Dont always 100% rely on the fingernail effect.
All those hotels with the creepy mirrors we’ve all been hearing so much about
I was told to share this in the main comments so here it is. Turn the lights out in the room and look through your phone’s camera. If there is a hidden camera you will see a glare/light. Hope it helps you feel safer.
I'm assuming you look through the camera with the flash on? Sorry if that's a stupid question 😭
@@pastelpeepyh wanna know to, it's not explained clear enough
@@pastelpeep It’s not stupid! You don’t need the flash because infrared cameras will show up as dots on your phone screen. You don’t need to take an actual picture, just use it to look through. Additionally, you could use your flashlight to look for a glare. That’s probably what you were thinking of.
No flash, just look through your dark room by looking at what your camera sees. It can see light through the lens in a dark room of where other cameras are looking at you. You also want it dark so that the camera turns on night vision mode which is what gives off the light.
You can test it with a standard old TV remote and look at the black sensor of the remote through your camera while pressing buttons on the remote. You'll see it light up for each button press.

This isn't absolute, there are different ways to make see through mirrors and the fingernail test doesn't work on all of them. However, most of the hotel rooms I've stayed in had the bathroom mirror on the front wall of the room, against the main hallway. There can't be a hidden space behind a wall you can see the other side of. So consider the layout of the room. What is on the other side of the wall? If it's the hallway or the outside of the building you don't have to worry about it.
"There can't be a hidden space behind a wall you can see the other side of."
WRONG! Walls are "framed" and are hollow, especially interior walls and they seldom have any insulation.
@@k0rc But how thick is the wall? Typical is 4 to 6 inches in homes. A solid concrete wall with decorative layers could easily be a foot thick. When you consider how much space there has to be between the inner surfaces of whatever is holding the building up I wouldn't worry about anything thinner than 2 feet.
A framed wall has enough room for small cameras
@@MrPetej00 but in that case the hotel has multiple ways to install cameras all over the room, not just behind a mirror.... I really have NEVER wasted a thought on it. What kind of hotels do you stay in?! xD

Good news! This is fear mongering. There is no evidence that this is a widespread issue. It's happened to a few people, but it's not so common as for yoy to be afraid.
Even more, you need actual evidence to prove this is a legit, consistent test, or if it is even true at all. Don't believe random clickbat shit on the internet.
Your phones are doing much worse now. Taking pictures, constantly listening for key words. And please don't flame me I'm being real...I think that "they" may have found some way to scan brainwaves to an extent.

This is overboard 😮
Far more important is to check for bed bugs, and whether or not there's 'black mould' in the shower cubicle or anywhere in the bathroom. Or run your finger along the top of a picture rail or dado rail to check for any dust.
FYI, the tape and marker is ONLY because they wanted to make a longer video, because "check if your nail touches your nail" doesn't work out to be much of a video. All you need is anything you can touch a mirror with.
That's what I thought, no idea what the marker/scotch tape are meant to be doing...
😒 Spreading misinformation, lovely! Any mirror can be see-through. Testing _like shown in the video_ quite literally does nothing for you. If your finger _“touches”_ its reflection, it means that the mirror does not have glass in front of its reflective layer. To inexpensively test if a mirror is see-through you need to
*1:* Dim the lights completely.
*2:* Put your phone (with its flashlight on) directly up against the mirror.
*3:* Make a tube with your hand and hold it on the mirror right next to your phone.
*4:* Look through the tube with one eye and close the other. If you *can’t* see through the mirror you should retest elsewhere on the mirror. If you *can* see through the mirror (camera lens or room): Leave immediately and call the police only after you have left.
Videos like these are very harmful as they’re inaccurate and either give a false sense of safety or an unjust sense of danger (and I still see these so often)!
There are devices available that test for hidden cameras as well although that would be a more expensive option.
Stay safe!
Exactly!!!
Thanks
I know in jails and police stations I've seen through them. idk why or how it works, but I know you can. In the police station and jail the room is was in was fairly bright and the other room was pretty dark or at least seemed that way 🤷🏻

Very informative, learned something new, thank you
Thats why I always travel with a hotelroom without double mirrors in my suitcase😂😂😂
Strange how something so simple is made more complicated with the need for a colouring contest! Lol😂😂
Double sided mirrors rely on light differentiation to not just appear like windows. The other room has to be really dark and the main room has to have a lot of light. You can shine a flashlight on the mirror with the lights off in the room and it would be easy to see through to the other side if it double sided.
Yes. My boss has a mirror in her office that's actually a window. If the sun is shining it's actually really obvious

I never know bedbugs is real, until i watched Judge Judy, i always thought it was just a saying...I was quite shocked to know they really exist.
Here's an easier way to tell- if the mirror in your hotel room is up against an exterior wall, wall with a hallway on the other side or has another hotel room on the other side, there's no one watching you through it. No one is wasting an entire room on the off chance that someone checks in they wish to watch shower for 10 minutes. What you people need to be worried about is the bedbugs you'll bring home with you.
There is no such thing as a 2 sided mirror. What you are looking for is a "one way mirror". And the tape and marker is useless, just use your finger or any other object to see if they touch the reflection. Another easy test to do is open the camera app on your phone, and turn out the lights in the room. If there is a hidden camera with infrared illumination, you can't see it, but your camera can.
And I really wouldn't worry about it in a reputable hotel chain. I'd be far more worried in an Airbnb.

@@2amTLOU it's sarcasm

💀💀💀
The concept is which side of the glass is the reflective surface. If the fingers don't touch, the silvering is on the back of the glass (normal mirror). If the fingers touch, the reflective film is on the front, which means someone could theoretically see from behind.
That being said, in typical hotel room layouts, the bathroom is along the front wall of the room. The mirror is usually hung on that wall, meaning someone would either have to be 3.5 inches in depth or would be standing in the hallway looking through the wall.
Use a very bright flashlight in the dark and flush with the glass. Slide across the mirror, going across the entire surface back and forth. You would see past the reflection.
Many mirrors in expensive hotels are made with thick, impact resistant glass, which would show the nail not touching its reflection.
NSA operative here. Now we have to add sheet of glass over our fake mirrors.

Imagine the situation.. " babe wait i have to test the mirror before we go to our thing.." 😂
Switch off all the lights. If someone is watching you from another room, there may be lights in that room.
There are 2 issues with this test.
1) many modern mirrors are very thin along with metal mirrors which have no gap.
2) They're more likely to put the camera in one of many electrical components, such as alarm clock, wall outlets, or light bulbs/lighting fixtures so unless your room is next to a supply closet you're probably looking in the wrong place.

Honestly you also have to think what’s on the other side of the wall that mirror is on? It’s usually your own bedroom area or another area within your hotel room.
Exactly! Could even be the hallway wall.
They can thread them down inside the wall if they have access from above. And who needs a mirror when cameras are so small now you can have them anywhere connected to Bluetooth. This is a ridiculous post and that tape crap is just click bait. People need to stop falling for this stuff.
@@delealax as far as that goes, there's a camera in tv screen nit to mention it's most likely hooked to internet...
The test that I was advised of was turn off lights walk into the bathroom. If you see pinhole light anywhere, there's a problem.. look especially at vents for lights for recording devices. And if you're that uncomfortable, stay home or always have a robe handy. You can always request to see the room next to you or if always request a corner room for less chance of a problem. But, this marker thing... it's kind of stupid. Touch it. If you touch you touch.
If you are that paranoid about a 1 way mirror, my advice is do not stay at a hotel.
