AMD has knocked NVidia on their butt at the start, NVidia was charging full price for their "New" GPU with very little increase in performance and got shook when they release a card that was almost as powerful for way cheaper. Then AMD knocked Intel on their ass with Ryzen hit them so hard they were force to bring a generator powered CPU cooler to run their "Totally not slapdashed" Multi Core CPU at a tech show.

Xbox has tons of IPs, the issue is they cant ship a game to save their life because Microsoft has a """cost saving""" measure that involves using almost entirely contractors that can only work there for 18 months before they cant work at Microsoft for 6 months. This leads to there being little to no real experience to be built up, meaning theyre constantly training new guys to work on their games. Probably part of the reason they axed Tango, because they had actual employees. Between that and the fact that GamePass was causing them to just hemorrhage money because in addition to being unable to ship games, they also didnt want to actually sell games. Sure it gained them some good will but it also basically killed the division. As of now, it seems like Activision Blizzard is the only studio thats safe from being killed over there. They paid $70 billion for it, so itll probably be good for now. Hard to be sure though considering Phil Spencer seems to love burning money

Like, why would you be passionate about something you work on for 18 months where, no matter how well you do, you'll summarily be given the boot when the time comes? Who knows if it'll even be the same thing in 6 months time?

For the 360, you even had to buy a separate network adapter to even connect online. Which is probably what caused a lot of fans to feel betrayed when the Xbox one came out, with it being online only they should have named it the Xbox 180 because of how backwards we were moving. ALSO, they showed Kinect game footage at e3 that was prerecorded and not real. Just a series of consecutive bad decisions being made by Xbox.

I love Game Pass, I used it for years and played literally hundreds of different games, from AAA to Indie, all for ‘free’ ($10 a month or whatever it was). I play on PC because I’m not a console casual, but Xbox, being owned by Microsoft, began to heavily integrate Xbox into Windows. Which I loved, I had been an Xbox player my whole life, I still have my original account from well over a decade ago. However, about a year ago, I was having so much trouble with the PC interface and how broken it is that I decided I’m just done with Xbox. They are literally owned by the same parent company but Xbox can’t figure out how to get their app working on Windows. Steam has no issues. Even Epic which I only use for RDR2 has never had any issues. You also can’t mod any of the games because they have some weird kind of proprietary folder structure specific to their launcher. Even games I fully purchased separate from Game Pass, I had no control over the actual game files. This pissed me off so much that I ended up buying the only game I actually cared about on Steam (Forza Horizon 5) and found a way to transfer all my save data. I then cancelled my subscription and I’m never paying for it again. Microsoft is a joke.
(As a side note, I don’t really mind the whole ‘everything is digital’ market. The real issue is the ‘licensing’ and not truly owning the game. That could still be accomplished with disks as well)

Then they have a massive business in camera sensors for smartphones (the sensors on the cameras on iPhones etc, are all Sony), and they also have banking in Japan. Yes. Banking.
The thing they did was sell the Vaio laptops (but they retain a share in the spin-off company that got the brand from them), and restructure their businesses to stop it being way too fragmented. Instead of having a ton of different divisions (one per business), they joined stuff like consumer products into one division, entertainment into another business, semiconductors and sensors into another.
But because they're Japanese, we're all pretty unaware of what they do day-to-day.

I think one of the crazy things is if you go back to the PS4 announcement, it also would have included the ps4 camera. They just gut it to undercut the xbox one by $100 12:48

Basically, the Kinect costed people an extra 100 bucks. 100 extra for something you don't want, something they insisted they couldn't remove.

I was never an Xbox person. It was just impossible for me to get past those awful controllers. Despite all that, the company as an entity absolutely does NOT deserve the piss poor management that has driven that brand into the muck...

I'm happy that people still buy physically on ps5 and switch.
I'm also happy that nintendo and Sony actually make new ips and bring new stuff to gaming rather than target big ip and buy them

Their original IPS, 2 joysticks and 4 shoulder buttons with handles on the controller that's been pretty copied since then, ps+ starting the whole monthly giveaway of games without making it a focus or needed like Gamepass, having more than one media thing on a console with CD and DVD and Blu-ray, their 3d sound system they made for ps5, they're heavily invested in VR, they did cross play before switch, first big motion gaming thing with eyetoy

I honestly don't think xbox is dying quite yet. Given that they have sold between twenty-seven and twenty-nine million units, it is not indicative of a dead brand. I've been playing video games for 36 years. And I have seen consoles and brands die. With that said, though, if they continue to make bad decisions and do not change course, then in a few years' time, things could be very different. We're at the point right now where I think these next few years Are going to be the make it or break it time.

When Xbox and Playstation die because they tried to out-PC the PC, Nintendo will still be there with their funky creative consoles. There's a reason that Nintendo has been around for over 120 years. Microsoft and Sony are babies compared to Nintendo and those two companies should have some humility.
