I'm talkin' about hide & seek for these hidden items in our house: Vaseline, baby oil &/or peanut butter. No matter where I hide these items, that was just apart of the game to them. My kiddo would rub it EVERYWHERE! I'm talkin' all over top of their clothes (stepping IN it while wearing socks 🤮), all up under their clothes, ALL through their hair, in the ears & up nose. Oh that is not all. Once their body was coated in the stuff, they'd start on other things... such as the HOUSE! Starting with whatever furniture was closest & the floors surrounding it. THAN painted the walls but, _only_ as high up as they could reach, of course. _Just_ about a metre up the wall from the floor. (for you Americans, that's 1 yard & 3" or 39"). As a parent you never think you'll have to stock up on Dawn dish washing liquid?! (btw, it _really does_ cut the grease folks). In fact, I _truly_ believe that we keep them in business for one full month, back in 1998?! Gawd, I sincerely miss those days _so_ badly. They were really tuff but, so much fun looking back. Messy little kids are usually natural learners & they're just craving knowledge & education. Needless to say, swimming lessons AND art classes both started the following month. 🤣🤣🤣🤣 TL;DR... I can't skip imagery of drinking lukewarm non-alcoholic beer from seemingly frosty glasses on hot summer day for ten consecutive shots. With single port-a-potty for entire crew on location.
I had the same idea go over to their house in the middle of the night or early morning depending on your friends sleep schedule and spray it on so they wake up confused
How long has technique been around? I'm remembering all those "frosty" movie sets from the '50s, especially The Thing, It's A Wonderful Life and Sergeant Preston of the Yukon. A Christmas Story is a whole generation of special effects artists later. Stay frosty, my friend!
There's nothing that he used to make that effect that wasn't around in the '40s _(It's A Wonderful Life_ is from 1946). I don't know whether or not that was the actual technique they used, but there's no reason it couldn't be.
I haven't tried it & I'm not an effects person, but I strongly suspect it wouldn't work on skin due to it being a highly absorbent surface. It wouldn't really dry in such a way as to leave salt crystals visible, at least not many if any, & they'd probably fall off with very little movement. Just my guess as a random physiology nerd
That’s really cool! I’ve never thought about how they created that effect before, Though it makes sense since snowflake/frost & salt crystals both have the similar fractal patterns
This was so cool to see- regular household items made such a realistic frost! It reminds me of working as a barista in one specific cafe where we were right up next to the window all day- I’d do the night shift, and this is exactly how it would look in winter. Sometimes we’d write lyrics or draw designs on the fog if we were bored!
@@handsoffmycactus2958 Well, considering I live in a region of Canada that gets a ton of snow, don't need to do that. I meant more for things like glasses or a punch bowl or other thins like that. Don't really need to worry about real frost on the window or not, although it is unseasonably warm here right now!
This is very cool (pun intended). It prompted me to find out what Epsom salts were and, since I use magnesium sulfate in my workspace, I can decorate the space realistically for Christmas!

Perfect summary. I love your condensation of water SFX on glass. Usually this kind of knowledge evaporates out of my head, but this explanation was really transparent
Perfect early ‘gift’ for my New England mother who has always spoken in longing of waking up to frosty mornings during the holiday season - thank you!! I hope you and your family are all well and enjoying a happy holiday season!
This is actually really clever, since magnesium sulfate naturally forms flat branching crystals in similar way to water when it freezes on a smooth surface
My friend did something like this on the plastic fake window on a doll house for photos once. It was a challenge to get the fake icey frost on a tiny fake Dollhouse window. They did it on multiple windows and just got photos before removing it. The dollhouse had plastic panes in the windows too. They had the whole plastic doll house decorated for Christmas and brought outside in the snow so you can see snow outside the windows. They did all of this and got the photos printed out because it was her sisters dolls and dollhouse. Her sister got those photos for Christmas. Her sister was at her friends house so she was able to do this without her sister finding out until Christmas.
I only use the fake frosty mug as set decoration, not for drinking out of.
Also, I meant to say dish soap, not detergent.
do you have to use the other method mentioned for when they’re drinking?
