    When I grew up on the farm we had a heavy duty articulating Eversman blade. I had to repair a 3" round shaft that broke in half on several occasions. The only time it broke is when someone was pushing backwards usually dirt. Going forward the blade floats. Going backwards the blade can hit a hard spot and snap that big shaft. Just a heads up on a potential problem.

    I cut a slit in some pvc pipe and slide that on the bottom of the blade. That seems to prevent unnecessary gouging into the gravel.

    The backwards blade is the best way to clear snow before you get a good frozen base. Getting these ups and downs in temperature makes it challenging for different snow removal equipment.

    • @EverythingElliott
      @EverythingElliott  Před rokem +1

      The temperature changes we have had are crazy. It was -15 yesterday and 45 today! Makes it tough to get a nice frozen driveway!

    As for whether or not the BB was designed to be used backwards, you tell me why the manufacturer put the extra holes in the turntable and made the blade so it would spin all the way around. You still need to make the blade slippery. Pam cooking spray will work, fluid film will too but is expensive. A wire wheel on your angle grinder will remove the rust without taking the steel too.

    • @EverythingElliott
      @EverythingElliott  Před rokem

      I know it was designed to work backwards, I was more pointing at using the backside of the blade. And I know the blade is still sticky, I wanted to do a proof of concept before investing time and effort into perfecting it.

    The last method pushing backwards with the blade in normal position or slanted is what I used on my pea gravel drive. It can be a little hard on the neck, but works the best when my driveway is not frozen. I also have a snow pusher up front for when it is. You can also adjust your toplink for best results.

    Double check your manual but you shouldn't have to run full throttle for Regen. There is a minimum, my JD is 1500rpm, but unless you're putting a load on the engine you might be making it run longer, especially in winter, as you're pushing a lot of air through the engine, essentially cooling it. I'd almost wager it would be better to use the skip function and plan to Regen the next time you use it and try to put a little bit more load on the engine to help it get hotter👍

    • @dandavis5758

      On that particular model, when the computer calls for a regen, if RPM is insufficient it shows a blinking yellow light on the dash. You are supposed to increase RPM until the light stops blinking but stays on. Computer decides RPM. The light goes out when it’s done. It always sounds a little different when running a regen.
      And you’re correct there’s a button that allows deferring regen, which I suppose could be handy if it calls for a regen at a really unhandy time or place. It also has some more complicated stuff for parked regen if you defer too many times. I have about 380 hours on a 2021 L4701 and I’ve yet to defer a regen. So far it’s been kind of a non-issue.

    • @EverythingElliott
      @EverythingElliott  Před rokem +1

      My tractor will not regenerate till it’s at 3000 rpm…and in the summer it never does a stand alone regenerate because I’m working it with the brush hog or tiller. In the winter the only thing I do with it is move snow. Generally it’s not an issue

    Why not just put some shoes (cleats?) on the blade to keep it from digging gravel?

    • @EverythingElliott
      @EverythingElliott  Před 9 měsíci +1

      It’s got shoes on the sides, I do adjust those, but my driveway has a crown for run off so I would be digging out the top of that crown with the steel edge, the rubber has some give and leaves the crown intact
