Harry Potter carved out a market for popular young adult books being adapted into movies, and studios started scrambling for their piece of that pie. For Fox, that came in the form of Percy Jackson-- a book series following the demi-god son of Poseidon dealing with Ancient Greek stuff all over the place.
Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief raises lots of questions. Like why do Greek Gods hang out in the United States? Why does everyone think that Percy stole the lightning bolt? Why does Zeus pick such a specific time for war? Why keep Percy in Camp Half-Blood if Hades can just pop up in the campfire at any time? Why doesn’t Percy show any emotion when seeing his mom die or when chopping off Medusa’s head? What was Luke’s plan exactly? Why did he send them on a quest to collect things that would make his own plan fail?
To answer all these questions and more, step inside the Pitch Meeting that led to Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief! It’ll be super easy, barely an inconvenience.

Zeus: Has Jason and Thalia, and who knows if there's more?
Poseidon: Has Percy, and again who knows if there's more?
Hades: Tries to protect the kids he already has but doesn't have any more

Zeus went around raping everybody, and Poseidon would kill sailors if he was in a bad mood, but Hades didn't really do anything mean.

@@titancaller005 Nah, I'm pretty sure Tartarus would be more "the Devil" kind of guy (honestly, almost anyone seems more like Satan than Hades). I had a feeling something was off about this movie when they aged up Percy from being 12 to being 17
I could deal with Percy being in high school
those usully happen because it's hard to work with kids.
Thats literally the least offensive bit about it, most kids aged 12 can't act.
I personally wouldn't have cared that much if the ages of the characters was the biggest change. Sure, it would still lead to some issues later on in the series, but that could be easily fixed just by changing the prophecy a tiny bit. And maybe 12 to 17 was a bit of a huge jump, I think 15 would be better as there are a lot more good 15-year old actors than 12-year old ones.
While I still don't know why they did this(I mean Harry Potter starts when he's 11), I was more upset with the total annihilation of percy's character. He was witty, impulsive, loyal, brave, and kind of a lovable moron in the books. Honestly one of my favorite fictional characters of all time, even more so than Harry Potter. And then they made him into an angsty, boring, emotionless shell of a person. Hell Grover is more like book Percy's character in the movie! And it wasn't just percy, it was literally every single character. The only semi close correct casting was annabeth, but even then they turned her "slightly a know it all" attitude into straight up bitchiness.
I really, really hope they get the show right. Percy jackson deserves an excellent adaption.

We have a saying about the movies, we don’t talk about the movies.
What movies 😀🙈
No one talks about this movie more than Percy Jackson fans
What movies?
I was waiting for this, for a whole year!! It feels like millennia.
Movies? As in plural? There's more of these?
"Camp halfblood"
"Is the halfblood prince here?"
I can't with these two😭😭
I have been waiting for a pitch meeting of this movie for so long I am so glad u did it. It was great
If a movie forces you to read the books to answer huge questions like “Why is Mount Olympus on the Empire State Building?” Then it hasn’t done its job as an adaptation
Why is it?
@@Shizzy5321 basically the gods go wherever a place has the most power. They went to rome first, then Europe a bit, stayed in britain for a while till landing here in the usa.
@@manuelmoreno1453 thanks!
@@Shizzy5321 to borrow from the first book
"Come now, Percy. What you call Western Civilization... is a living force, collective consciousness that has burned bright for thousands of years. The gods are part of it, [a] fire started in Greece. The heart of the fire moved to Rome, and so did the gods... wherever the flame was brightest, the gods were there. They are now in your United States. Look at your symbol, the eagle of Zeus. Look at the statue of Prometheus in Rockfeller Center... like it or not-America is now the heart of the flame. It is the great power of the west. And so Olympus is here."
@@manuelmoreno1453 which the greeks settled in the East while the Romans settled in the west. which is why New York is the hotspot there and somewhere in cali is the Roman's area
I love how the Producer Guy is disappointed that they don't fight the cow. Lol
Producer Guy
It's kinda messed up that a minotaur used a cow as a weapon, if you think about it.
@@EmperorSeth Maybe it owed him money?
@@EmperorSeth an asshole mooooove to be sure
Kung pow enter the fist
This is one of my favorite pitch meetings
I love how almost all of these issues are addressed in the book.
The time it took to come up with this amount of Harry Potter references was longer than the time it took to come up with the entire film's plot.
Freaking jellal
How tf do I keep seeing you-
You know what , I give up
Wow you're here too
Notice me senpai!!
A real fan of this knows that this is not Percy Jackson. It’s called Potato Janitor and the fruit thief
😂😂😂
Peter Johnson and the Thunder burglary
Perry Jonathan and Ohm's Law
The leo profile pic tho
@@ethansumner688 wut ? I love Leo .
You should do a pitch meeting of "The Giver" book by Lois Lowry!
Hades in Percy Jackson: Mustache twirling villain
Hades in Mythology: Devoted husband and overall chill guy
Why is there a two week deadline: so the movie can happen
Wow, arbitrary two week deadlines are tight
@@type1eagle994 It's almost like school or work.
bc
Also it is definitely something Zeus would do.....after sleeping with his mother....
If some are curious, in the book they had the quest to find the lightningsbolt before the Winter solstice. Therefore its just two weeks!
one of the only movies where sean bean doesn‘t die
I barely recognized him breathing.
Who does he play?
@@ctcomics8293 Zeus
Maybe they saved it for the sequel.
???
Percy's plan:
*gets to the underworld*
Percy: Hey dude, I don't have the bolt.
HAdes: Ok, sorry for the inconvience, here's your mom. Safe travels!
I read the books as an adult and still enjoyed them a lot. The world is actually very well built and I love the use of ancient mythology.
The "America YEAAAAAAAH" part absolutely obliterated me.
Me too
“Wowwowowwowwooo.... but seriously”
Seriously by far one of the funniest things I've ever seen on CZcams 😂😂😂
The most accurate description of this movie I have ever seen is “The dragonball evolution of book adaptations”.
Did you heard of eragon? That is the chrismast special of starwars lvl of bad!!!
These movies weren't as bad as that.
It seems you haven't watched Artemis Fowl yet, I mean at least this movie was entertaining
That title belongs to Artemis Fowl, yuck!
It's funny because Dragonball evolution is even worse than this one.
But then a fricken minotaur throws a cow at them so they have to fight it.
The cow?
The minotaur.
Oh.
5:09 and the subsequent reaction 😂
After reading the Books, sitting through this movie was not easy and was definitely a inconvenience.
The only thing that I like about this movie is it inspired me to read the books.
Hard to find a movie where Sean Bean doesn't die. Kudos to you, folks.
Talking of slaughtering ancient Greek mythology, you should do Troy
Hold up... you are telling me Troy isn’t a faithful recreation of the source material? So does that mean Legolas and Brad Pitt never even fought?
Shame- I actually enjoyed Troy.
Sean Bean has died in about a third of his roles, so there are quite a lot to pick from where he doesn't.
National Treasure... he goes into jail but he doesn't die.
The Martian... he just retires and plays golf.
There was another movie he doesn't die... just forgot what it's called something about channing Tatum protecting a princess on earth from his step brother? Lol idk forgot
