Sonic the Hedgehog is one of the most famous video game characters of all time, so it definitely makes sense that Hollywood wanted to cash in on this little blue guy by bringing him to the big screen. Voiced by Ben Schwartz, Sonic has now come to planet Earth and has to go up against the evil Doctor Robotnik, played by Jim Carrey.
The movie definitely raises a lot of questions. Like why is there suddenly an owl here? Why does Sonic run into someone’s garage to use his portal ring? Why doesn’t he run to San Francisco to retrieve it, instead taking a slow-paced road trip when time is of the essence? Why does this little blue alien floss so often? Why did they want to give him so many teeth?

I just saw this movie with my boyfriend today, when they did those slow motion scenes, I was like "This reminds me of that scene in Over The Hedge" and he was like "I thought you were gonna say X-Men". Actually, funnily enough, apparently the Olive Garden joke was something the writers threw in. It wasn’t product placement, although I will admit the fact the Sonic restaurant franchise wasn’t referenced was a bit of a missed opportunity.

I think that Sonic may have decided to stick with Tom on the road partly due to his extreme loneliness and longing for social interaction. Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but he didn't actually want to go to the mushroom world.

I don’t get how “fans” can attack this movie for doing all the things typical of a Sonc tv show. It should still be killed with fire because those shows were all aimed at four year olds. On a network television budget and with restrictions. I demand better of a movie with years of work by professionals and much less censorship.

I heard they tested the original design on Chinese audiences cause they were banking on the Chinese box office moreso than the American one. Problem is China's not really a big fan of Japanese IPs so they didn't like it looking the original Sega design. Thank gyawd the studio took the online criticism seriously, especially now that coronavirus has nuked the Chinese box office for the forseeable future.

Ok like 90%of the animation rigging would stay the same. Most of it is just porting over the new asset and managing the new facial reations, which isnt all that bad if the animation suit you are using can interpolate between frames (like all do)

Forget the games and give the movie a chance. The origin story is different but the movie is hilarious. Jim Carrey is awesome and Sonic gives off a Deadpool vibe so his funny AF too.
I legitimately thought Longclaw was a real Sonic character thanks to the insane amount of ancillary characters the series has dropped on us over the years.
@randy K15 I said Sonic gives off a Deadpool vibe the way his personality is. Of course, the humor is not gonna be anything close to Deadpool because this is not a rated R movie. And yes forget about the story of the games. This is a movie and the story has to be changed in order for it to transfer well onto the big screen.
