There's numerous tanks destroyed within meters of these snow structures, and that knocked out artillery in front of the wreck - this must've been a pretty tense engagement.
An then that one last cigarette they all have to share after such a bloody battle. That's a very bone chilling scene. Wish there were more war movies like that one.
On 'why Germany lost the war' - I believe Brauchitsch said the panzer industry & armaments procurement not having followed Hitler's wishes by putting long 50mm on panzers before Barbarossa was a factor.

I often wonder not only about the inherent accuracy of the cannon but also the quality of the sights. It's fine to say the range is however many thousands of meters, but at what range can it consistently hit?
1943 was a bloody crazy year for tanks on the Ostfront.
