Thanks for the review. I just ordered the 2021 Madone SL7, same color as the 2020. It's beautiful. I made one change...I had the Bike Shop order the One piece Stem and Handlebar to replace that one that comes with the bike. It's a beauty. I'm really looking forward to putting it on the road. Thanks for the great review!
Right on!
We’re they able to get the handlebar and stem? What was the price?
That stem and bar looks out of place on that bike. The one piece aero bar and stem would look much better. At that price point it should be included!
The SLR it is. On the SL they want cable routing to be easier and the ability to change cockpit sizes considering this is a stock bike
I learned some news things about the bike. So, thanks for taking the trouble to post this video!
Sure thing. Glad you learned something
Love this bike! Hopefully be my new bike for 2020! Great review James.
I hope so, really sick
I have this exact bike in a 62cm & with the lighter mechanical R8000 groupset with Ultegra carbon pedals it weighs exactly...9.22kilo.
While it rides nice & feels fast, you can feel the heavy weight, especially on climbing.
One day... insyaallah. Love 💓 Trek bike
Indeed, One day!
Turn that stem down
Meh.
Gonna say the same thing
Yes, the front end looks horrible (and not so aero) with the stem pointing skyward.
I was wondering what made it look off, thought it was just the size...
Great Overview of the bike.
Not really a review unless you rode it though!
Nice but heavy...
Always great informative videos James :-)
Thanks. I do think we all need a different perspective on weight now that Disc has arrived, and compliance is getting a focus. The increase in weight today is also getting a lot more overall performance
@@Jamesthebikeguy gravitational acceleration on Earth hasn't changed... it's still 9,8m/s^2 so why the different perspective on weight?
@Quantum DecoherenceTherefore I prefer to forget disc brakes...
Nice color !!! much better than the same level domane sl7 bike which looks like a military bike
Love it myself.
I wish i had that bike
This is a beautiful bike
Sure is, thanks for watching!
Holy riser stem...Batman!
Soaring to the sky
beautiful road bike....philippines
Sure its, thanks for watching.
That's one sexy bike! Nice run down.
Thanks for watching!
What’s the tire clearance like?
solid for 30c. Maybe 32
Wow what a nice bike.. how fast can you cruise with this beautiful machine.
as fast as you can pedal!
Can someone who has used a bike with disc brakes explain the difference in feel and responsiveness?
More or less it is about modulation and limit braking capability. Basically you have significantly more control between no brakes and lockup. So makes for more confidence descending. The other major bonus is wet weather performance, and that it doesn't wear out your wheels.
Wow! It's gorgeous but 18.5lbs is heavy at that price point.
Aero + Comfort comes at a cost.
The only thing I don't like about it is the extended seat mast which makes it very difficult to put in a bike box to travel with.
Have you tried? Doest stick abox the stem.
@@Jamesthebikeguy James, I helped a friend pack his Emonda (same seat mast as all the other Trek road bikes) into a hard bike box. We had to heat the box just enough so that it would flex to accommodate his frame. A soft side box like an Evoc is a much better choice for travelling.
I'm also aware that the limited amount of adjustability of the seat mast will not suit some riders and also the fact that it only comes with compact gearing will not suit some other riders. Of course you can swap out the chainrings, cassette and go to a long cage derailleur.
I have put many hours comparing the sl and the slr......... slr all day.
Dan Boluri ofcourse anyone would choose the slr over the sl if your pockets are deep enough
@@kirkshammett94 coming back to this comment.. i put in an order for the sl7 last week.. will arive end of august... the slrs not even in stock anymore! so sad.. cant even get a bar and stem.. double sad
Great review! Is the di2 the only difference between the sl7 and sl6?
pretty much
@@Jamesthebikeguy on sl 6 carbon wheels as well?
Could you look for a affordable winter bike. 🎅
Check out the Checkpoint AL3. Video coming soon, but a great low-cost road/gravel bike.
@@Jamesthebikeguy Is the Domane AL2 a good winter bike?
I thought the lsospeed on SL models was not adjustable am I right?
Nope, on SL7 its adjustable. On SL6 I dont know, but i dont think its a different frame.
Very nice.
How can you distinguish the SL 7 from the SL 6
The Di2 and Carbon Wheels
one thing I always wonder about, what are the wieght limitations of bikes like these? 225lbs?
Best to check with Trek but I believe this bike is either 250 or 275
275..it's on their website specs at the bottom
Hi.. can i use slr 6/7 stem and drop bar on that sl7..? Cheers
You can although you need a special top spacer because of the difference of angles in the cockpit. Any trek dealer will be able to get you the correct spacers to make it fit
How did you balance the bike????
Carefully.
Would like to see you do a review on the 2020 Giant Defy Advanced 2. Looking to purchase it but can’t find any in depth reviews on the 2020 model, thanks
I wish I could, but no access to Giant bikes.
HEAVY !! But beautiful
Maybe I’m wrong but I think I’ve seen bikes weigh 16 lbs before
??
all these little aero gain are screw by a sinter stem like this!
sinter stem?
That is an ugly stem on that bike.
Heavy
Yeah surprisingly so, however their aero would more than make up for it on the flats and shallower climbs. But longer steeper climbs you'd feel it! (says me guy with a 10kg bike :-D
All carbon frame but they couldn't add carbon handlebars. Disappointing especially for the price.
No carbon bars on purpose. The SLR models do, but the SL is all about easy replacement and adjustment for the privateer
@@Jamesthebikeguy Doesn't have to be the SLR stem/handlebars combo, but at least a regular Bontrager ISO Core carbon bar, which would've been better in my opinion. The current setup looks and feels ridiculously cheap.
ISO in the front end stem/headset area too?
Jon Roth not on the Madone.
Same bike since 2016 just new colors of paint .disc
It's new for 2020, completely new frame.
THIS THING IS FUCKIN SICK...
So is.
my dream bike that i will never have :(
Something to strive for.
@@Jamesthebikeguy even if i did cant reach this so expensive bike :(
@@Russel.Andal09 never say never
@@PaddleDogC5 after 2 years still hoping
8.4 kg without pedalls???
Dich them discs....
Meh, discs offer so much more than the little added weight.
18lbs aero bike vs 15 lbs climbing bike? I think the 15lbs wins
Maybe up just a hill climb, but otherwise aero is the winner.
Great video but turn your stem down its embarrassing
It's problem when you are embarrassed by someone else's bike
Weights like an anvil
Goes like a jet?
hm
Suspect frame .
How so?
@@Jamesthebikeguy My cousin had one , but it kept breaking in the suspention part . Had a replacement and that did the same . Now cancelled.
way too much camera movement. Can't watch.
Needs to be slammed ... all the way down.
Not if the rider isn't comfortable in that position
@@Jamesthebikeguy bought a bike that doesn't fit then
Waaaaay to heavy. You need to be riding on Saudi Arabia or something like that. Waaaaay to heavy. For the money, Waaaaay to heavy. Same money as venge pro but with 1 extra kilo on it. Waaaaay to heavy.
Waaaaay, Waaaaay to much use of Waaaaay
*too
