My "Mate" in the field was Named "Rodney Jolly". We Boarded the USS Tulare and Sailed into Brisbane. As We came to Port the Royal Australian Band Played The MARINES HYMN, We were the first U.S. Marines to be there since WWII. On Shore Patrol as an MP, I worked with an Aussie Corporal Ian "SPUD" Murphy who invited me to live with his Family while I was there off duty. The Only Competition I recall was a Game of Rugby that the Aussies wiped our asses all over that field and most of us went home in a Cast. I Miss those Diggers and would have PROUD to go into Combat with Every one of them. SEMPER FI AUSTRALIA !!!

That Couple watched my Sea-Bag While I went upstairs and Broke his Nose and later The two Police Officers he brought to have me Arrested turned out to be Former Marines and handcuffed the Hippie before taking him away. Both in the Outback and in the Cities of Australia, All I ever Felt was Love, Compassion and Respect from your People. I remember sitting in a Theater in Brisbane with seven Other Marines all in Uniforms to watch "American Graffiti" and before the Movie Started, The Manager walked out on Stage and told Everybody "What Could be better than Watching an American Movie than With Members of the United States Marine Corps, Gentlemen will you Please Stand Up ?" As we Stood, Everybody in the Theater Stood Clapping and Smiling. THAT was the most Memorable Time in my Life. I'm 68 years old, What a Difference the Years have made. Everywhere I go Americans Today see my "Marine Veteran" cover and Thank me for my Service and I Thank them for being an American Patriot and wonder "Where were they in 1973" ? Australians are taught our history very well and most of us know that in WW2 when the Japanese Empire was making it's way South, our calls for help to the Commonwealth fell on deaf ears... Churchill basically abandoned us because all the assets of the Commonwealth were tied up in Europe. So the Australian government asked for help from the US and got it in exchange for a permanent ally and a base close enough to Asia that the US could have a permanent influence over the region. So it was a marriage of convenience at the time but I think we've kinda grown on each other over the years :D :D
