- This 131 foot tall Intamin first generation drop tower is well known to all you Cedar Point fan boys and girls, but most park guests don't know that it operated at "America's Roller Coast" for 26 years (1983-2009) before being relocated to Pennsylvania in 2010.

rip: First generation drop towers ;-;. These rides pack a huge punch and are honestly horrifying, which is what i love about them
it's scarier then it looks lol. i was forced to get on because all my family got on. i literally saw my soul jump out my body lol. an my stomach lining felt like it fell completely out lol. good luck to whoever ride this

Freefall at SFMM was so thrilling when it was new. I was near the front of the line when Michael Jackson and his entourage were escorted to the boarding platform. Jackson watched a car drop, then turned around and walked away.

I didn't even know these still operated. I miss it. They had one at Six Flags Great Adventure, very intense and fun! Right at the point where you feel you are going to crash into the ground if curves.
there was one in my "home park" beto carrero world but it was moved to parque does elefantes in sao paulo
i have no reason why it was moved to there
was a great ride , rode it many times over the years at cedar point , glad to see it has a new home and not just trashed.
I went to Dorney Park the other day and rode this for the first time...scariest ride that I went on in the park. 😬😳
This ride is under rated! I rode it like 3 times when I went to Dorney last summer!
When the Demon Drop was at Cedar Point , The speed it took you up was twice as fast than what you're seeing now and it there's more of a wait for it to drop once the car locks in at the top
It looks like fun but I'd probably freak out when it lays down

WoW!! I haven't been on a ride like this one since I was a kid with my dad in the 1980s. It was at Six Flags Great America. It was called The Edge. It was unfortunately removed after only 2 seasons at the park in 1985 and I haven't seen one since. I thought these rides were truly all gone. I'd really love to ride one again as an adult with my sons.
@Furber Weber You probably mean Giant Drop. But I think The Edge was were X-Flight currently sits actually. Man oh man the memories though!

Nathan Meeks yea we have the power tower, but i just miss the demon drop for the nostalgia aspect.. its been there since i was a kid and im 30 now and they took it out of the park a few yrs ago...
i just liked the "carnival ride" feeling it gave.. more of a thrill when it feels like it could break at any point hahah

It's good to see these 1st Gen Freefalls in operation. Not many of them in the USA anymore. They took down the wildcatter in Six Flags Over Texas for a stupid Tony Hawk Ride which i'll admit was fun, but wasn't necessary to take it down.

These coasters had really rough (as well as bad) breaking systems. They would always wear down faster than most. When the ride stops, it actually hurts your back.

Didn't Six Flags in Dallas have something exactly similar to this exact ride? I'm pretty sure I rode something like this in the late 80's or early 90's and it was in Dallas. It was designed just like this ride. Not one of those drop rides where your feet dangle. Anyone know?

mightyhero It was called The Edge. They Got rid of it in the 1990s and replaced it with taller second gen free fall ride, Drop Zone.
I remember these.... these were a crazy idea but boy did they pack a punch!

At the top of the ride when it pushes you onto the track that drops you it feel like the carts just gonna fall forward.
This is by far an experience you will only get here I'm dead serious I can't explain the fear you will get off this ride a different person
I rode the Free Fall ride at Magic Mountain back in the day when it first opened. I waited 2 hrs and I loved it too. Sorry to see it has moved on since. Cool video too.

Intamin needs to re-create these type of rides.
I think manafctuers need to start making their old rides again, or a company starts making old school type of rides like this.

Sky screamer at sixflags astroworld. We used to put a penny on our knee and watch it float as we dropped.

Yep, that's definitely it, that's the one I went on with my mom when I was little. Right when we "dropped" I yelled oh shit the whole way down. Apparently my brother and pop were dying of "laughter" because they were standing in line and them/everybody else could hear me. 😬 Good times! 🙄

I was only freaked out by the line from suspense or the height but the thing that did it the most was the pistons releasing

Miss this being at Cedar Point
The thing I miss about the current crop of drop rides is that shuffle at the top. You slowly move forward, building up tension. Then the click, down you go, and come to rest on your back. Nowadays it is just up and down. Yawn

I went to dorney a few weeks ago and did this ride. My wife flashed before my eyes and I felt like I was having a heart attack

the restraints on this one didn't let me breathe at all I paniced
I really want to go on dominator and steel force. I went on this and totally hated it, I felt like my soul left my body. But i do LOVE rides like Hydra and Talon. So for all of y’all who have went on dominator and steel force, does this ride feel similar? Are the other rides easier then this one? Please reply ASAP!

Ahahah just went on it now for the comment. This ride is soooooooooo sketchy because of how old it is. You only have a sholder harness like it showed, no seat belt or no strap connecting to the harners and no shiny bars to hold which makes it really old and sketchy. Plus you go backwards for the start so it's like okay guess were going backwards which is still a strange feeling. Then you go up and it's weird seeing the track your going to ride in front of you. Then you get to the top, the view is awesome as always then you see a tire and your like wtf does that thing do, Then you see it starting to spin and your like ooo that brings ous forward for the drop. Then it takes a while to connect the cart to the track like a 1m or 2m. Than you drop. You don't get that much airtime like other drop down rides because of the friction im assuming but it's still fun. Than you slowly move on your back. The stop isn't as painful as it seems. Then you go almost upside down into the staion but the cart fixes upright. Then another cart in front of you comes in and your like o no don't hit us but of course it's designed not to but it feels like that because it gets so close. Then its seems longer to get off then the actual ride. Still it's worth every Penny! very Unique. Wish it was still at Cedar Point because i think it just needs a better destination for a ride like that. :)

I remember I was at Dorney I saw this ride (I was like 5 at the time) I looked at this ride and heard people screaming and looked at the height I was actually terrified

Really miss this ride....it was a first on and last ride when going to cedar point....I really miss seeing it right inside the gates...the sound the screams, everybody inline counting to 3 to time the drops...short ride but awsome non the less

Went on this ride the first time ever in June it but seems not as bad bit damn it scares I hate drop rides but know one else would go on with me I even ven begged the workers if I could ride with a stranger they said no so I did it myself adrenaline rush bit won’t go again. Without a friend this tome lol

It was since it stops so abrupt you usually had neck and back pain afterwards from slamming your head but still loved that ride haha
