    Queer woman here; you did nothing wrong. Unfortunately, there is a LOUD minority of our community that likes to chastise cis/het people for not living up to an impossible standard. "Homophobia" and "transphobia" are terms just lofted around conversations where there is none. Please continue your recaps, your opinions are insightful and valued!

      @@pearlosibu It's annoying how often straight 'allies' are waiting to be the pronoun police. I think these 'allies' just wanna pat themselves on the back for being all high and mighty about it. These type of people aren't real allies, they are just the people who like to push 'I'm better than you' narratives.

      Thank you! People don’t understand how hard it is with pronouns. People aren’t trying to be disrespectful. The pronouns is a new approach going from he to she to they is still a thing people are getting used to. Someone on fb tried to police me about it and I was very upset. It’s very rude to do that to people when we’re trying to get used to this and not offend people.

    I believe when it comes to Mal and Lexi, Mal is more open to marriage with Lexi because Lexi is more financially stable which takes a lot of the pressure off of Mal.

    • @UrbanDecayLova247
      @UrbanDecayLova247 Před rokem +19

      Makes perfect sense!! I also think her insecurities are not there with Lexi because even though she hasn’t dated a black woman, Mal sees she is very different from Rae…while with Yoly, because they had been friends - it seems like she knows Yoly has a very distinct type & since she doesn’t feel she fits into it, her insecurities flare up with Yoly.

    • @pearlosibu
      @pearlosibu Před rokem +8

      And on this note, I’d like to broach a question that has been nagging me about the heteronormative depictions that are rife amongst the castmates/relationships. Why do we have these structures where it appears the masc partner is unquestioningly the provider? I was very distressed to hear Mal speak about having everything in place and i neither heard Yoly volunteer to contribute or any of the other contestants ask why only Mal was providing, especially if Yoly knows that that’s the primary reason why mal isn’t ready to propose (she says. . I admit I know nearly nothing about gay relationships but I do know one boast i often hear us that the dynamics are not like het. These do in many ways, especially this. Why can’t Yoly contribute? I think I got a similar vibe with Tiff and…can’t remember her name. I know it starts with an M

    • @danaterry2247
      @danaterry2247 Před rokem +6

      @@pearlosibu I can only speak of my experience as a cis bisexual female who has dated men, masc women and fem women.. and for some masc presenting women, their personalities are also masc and they kinda naturally fall into that "provider" role that most men do. I understand what you're saying about not really understanding much about the community. Hell, I'm in it and don't understand much. But I think that is because all relationships, regardless of gender, are different and gender-specific roles in relationships across the board are different. Such as a Working mom with a stay-at-home dad. 30 years ago that would have been almost taboo. I think Mal just wants to be that provider and Yoly doesn't want to. But Mal sees a financial partner in Lexi or maybe not even a partner but a backup if Mal loses her job or something. At least there is another income to fall back on.. idk.. it's all speculation

    • @pearlosibu
      @pearlosibu Před rokem +1

      @@danaterry2247 yeah, i see what you mean. I think this makes me like Yoly even less; because as I said, why would she just decide not ro work? Clearly, as much as Mal likes to provide, it’s now apparent that she does not embody the male way of thinking. She does want a financial partner. And Yoly instead of thinking how to be that seeing as it’s a level playing field (grnder-wise), unlike with het couples decides she will be a babygirl and be taken care of and instead issues her partner an ultimatum and drags Mal on a show. Yoly could choose this if and when they have kids and she ends ip being the domestic partner. What’s her excuse now? I don’t entirely blame Yoly. Mal could’ve communicated this to Yoly. Like I said, very het dynamics. Yeah, they should breakup.

    Fellow queer here and I love your commentary! You have done more to respect their gender identities than Netflix. Also we need to hold space for people getting used to people’s gender identities just like how I will probably forget your name the first few times I meet someone. There is nothing malicious about the way you approach this. The more fans and people talking about this show means more potential for queer entertainment.

    As a queer woman, I genuinely hope you continue and I LOVE your content and your observations. If you need to stop for your mental well-being, that's fair. But I personally don't find you to be disrespectful at all. Ultimately, even if people don't like the way that you refer to everything, they are 1000% free to only watch queer CZcamsrs so that everything is referred to in a manner that is more to their liking. But to watch the videos of someone who openly admitted that they are a cis het woman amd then come at her for being a cis het woman or not having perfect knowledge of the queer community is wild and unfair to me. Not everything is for everyone and they need to find the right CZcamsr for them. But the rest of us love you. I'll continue to support you no matter what you decide but the trolls don't matter. GIRL KEEP GOING!! As a queer non-binary person that uses they/them pronouns I really don’t think it’s that deep. It’s the fault of the show that they refer to everyone as “she” so it makes sense that you’d be confused. Tbh I was confused about everyone’s pronouns too b/c I knew that whole cast wasn’t likely to only use she/her. I also don’t think it’s transphobic to pick what pronoun to use as long as it’s a pronoun the person said was ok with them. I think it’s fine to give a disclaimer & let folks know you might fumble but you’re working on it.
    I know plenty of queer & straight relationships that go too fast, or drag out dating for 8 years. I feel like I knew far more folks in those kinds of fast moving relationships when I was in my early & mid 20s, not so much in my mid 30s & I think that’s a good thing b/c rushing to convince ourselves that we belong with someone we met 2 weeks ago usually doesn’t end up well.
    Your read on Mal is on point tbh Mal doesn’t want to be with Yoly. Mal probably doesn’t want to be with Lexi either beyond hooking up but is using all of this “you transformed my relationship to marriage” lingo to get into Lexi’s pants & will likely leave here a free agent. It seems very much like high school “I feel like I’ve known you forever” type convos, but the adult version after everybody’s read that book about attachment styles lol.
    Tiff can stay on that couch with their dog. Better yet Tiff can go back to their own bed smh. I have a dog but I’m clear he’s a dog not a 5 year old child & that there’s a difference between the two. I wonder if it was cut out of the edit, but was Tiff clear with Sam before that their dog sleeping in the bed is 100% non-negotiable.
    Rae is a mess, idk why she’s low key committing to destroying her relationship by staying with Vanessa. I wish Rae & Sam would’ve dated so Tiff & Vanessa could implode together. I think Rae knows she made a bad choice but is sticking with it now b/c what’s the other option. Homie is WILDLY naive.

  • @umusty619
    @umusty619 Před rokem +28

    Honestly, Rae should have just been quiet. This isn't Vanessa's fault, unless it turns out that it wasn't consensual. I don't care for Vanessa, but I'm not blinded by my own bias. Why's no one addressing the fact that Rae allowed it to happen? Ugh. It's just a sticky situation

    • @Cloud-ql3oy
      @Cloud-ql3oy Před rokem +3

      Yeah i think ppl associate Rae as non threatening so she's has to be sweet. She is soft spoken, submissive and pretty. It was very selfish for Rae to get laid and immediately tell Lexi. U have to question that Rae was trying to Stop progress with Mal. She couldve slept on the couch if she was so afraid of losing Lexi which she never came off fearful of that. She showed immaturity at that table when everybody called Vanessa out for her abusive behavior. Rae picked her anyway, seemed like a dig at Lexi. Then Rae had a very immature reaction to reaction to Lexi picking Mal. This was VERY telling.

    Really hope you continue on watching and recapping.
    So on the video, after doing a deep dive into the casts socials, Rae has admitted to getting black out drunk the night Vanessa sleeps with her. So I can definitely see where lexi is coming from (as far as taking advantage of Rae since a genuine person would refuse to sleep with someone that intoxicated).
    The Xander / Vanessa dynamic does make sense. Unfortunately when you have one person you’ve given your all to probably say things like “you’ll never get anything better” or similar sentiments, someone like Xander would definitely begin to believe it enough to think that a Vanessa is the best she could have (at that time pre-Yoly)
    Anyway, hope to see a recap notification on Wednesday/Thursday 💙

    It’s really on Netflix to make the pronouns clear, something that they didn’t bother to do. The fact that you went out of your way to check each contestants pronouns and use them correctly, is incredible and it shows how strongly you want to do the right thing.
    You come across as an empathetic person who cares about people and it’s obvious to us viewers that any mistake you make is unintentional. Anyone commenting theses things just isn’t differentiating between someone who is genuinely making an effort, and someone who misgenders people in a malicious way. You’re clearly in the former group and not the latter.

I'm also a straight woman but I have friends in the community who are incredibly understanding and patient in helping me to understand things I might get wrong and using the proper pronouns. They keep telling me to relax that it's not a crash course with an exam at the end, it's a lifestyle they know I'm not 100% apart of, but at least I try to understand and show respect.
    Please know that you're a beautiful and kind person who to me, always tries to be fair, conscious of causing offence and apologises when you're wrong. Don't let the self-righteous few make you feel bad and doubt yourself. I genuinely hope you continue to review the show but if it comes at a prize to your light being dimmed, I'll understand why and accept an overall review at the end.
    Take care Queen E real fans got your back❤️

    Gay queer person here! I REALLY like your recaps of the show, they’re actually my favourite of the handful that I’ve watched! I see your effort in talking about a queer show and being informed as a straight woman, and think you’re doing great ❤ I’m sorry to hear that folks were being so harsh.
    People need to consider what their desired outcome is before they criticize. Is it to reprimand and punish?? Or connect and grow together?
    Peace and love Queen E, hope to see more of your takes of this season! Thank you ❤

    Rae deserves the smoke just like Vanessa does…however, Yoly & Xander sleeping together is different in my eyes - they actually like each other.
    Vanessa AND Rae are both moving very unserious & that’s why I would give them more smoke than Yoly & Xander. The way the ladder couple is moving, they could walk out of this show together vs. Rae & Vanessa just wanted to get one off.

    @Queene I just wanted to take a moment to reach out and offer some words of encouragement and support regarding the recent topic you addressed in your video about the challenges of getting the pronouns right for the LGBTQ+ community, particularly the usage of "they" and "them." It's understandable that you may feel upset or discouraged when you make mistakes or struggle with this aspect, but please know that it's essential to keep learning and growing.
    First and foremost, it's commendable that you are making an effort to understand and respect the pronouns of individuals within the LGBTQ+ community. Learning to use gender-neutral pronouns correctly can indeed be challenging, especially if you haven't been exposed to them extensively in the past. However, it's crucial to remember that mistakes are a part of the learning process, and what truly matters is your willingness to improve and be respectful.
    It's important not to perceive your difficulties with pronouns as insulting or disrespectful towards the community. Acknowledging that you are still learning and open to understanding different pronoun usage is a positive step. By openly discussing this topic and expressing your commitment to improve, you are fostering a dialogue that encourages empathy, inclusivity, and education within your community.
    I also wanted to address your concerns about reviewing a show where the inconsistent usage of pronouns was not highlighted or where they were changing frequently with interactions between other contestants. It's essential to approach such situations with nuance and understanding. Television shows and other media often lag behind in representing accurate and consistent pronoun usage, which can lead to confusion or inconsistencies. By reviewing these shows and bringing attention to these aspects, you are actually promoting awareness and encouraging creators to improve their representation of gender identity and pronoun usage.
    Remember, your reviews can serve as a platform to highlight the importance of accurate representation and respectful language. By continuing to review the show and discussing these topics, you contribute to the ongoing conversation about inclusivity and help raise awareness among your viewers. Additionally, it's essential to provide constructive criticism while recognizing the efforts that have been made towards representation, as this encourages positive change.
    In conclusion, please don't let yourself become discouraged or upset about the challenges you face in getting pronouns right for the LGBTQ+ community. It's a learning process, and mistakes are inevitable. By openly discussing your journey, fostering dialogue, and continuing to review shows with a critical eye, you are actively contributing to a more inclusive and understanding environment.
    Keep up the great work, stay open to learning, and remember that your efforts are making a difference. Your commitment to growth and understanding is commendable, and I'm confident that with time, you will become more comfortable with using gender-neutral pronouns correctly.
    Wishing you all the best

    I'm queer, but identify as cis, so I can't speak for, or from, the trans community.
    But what I've learned from my trans friends and acquaintances is that they're not expecting cis ppl to be perfect. If you are trying your best to use the pronouns of whomever you're speaking to or about, from a place of respect and good faith, you're probably just fine to 90-something% of the community.
    I think respect is the biggest part of it. Like it is for most of us.
    Great videos on the series, so far! I'm enjoying hearing your take on it.

And you are right about the show as a whole and even someone like Mildred using she/her pronouns for Tiff and also Aussie. So why should we as an audience know otherwise?     From what I remember;
    1) Yolly said something about Mal wanting to get money for “everything” that might come up in the future before marriage.
    2) Mal said she’s skeptical about Yolly’s feelings and all because Yolly has felt just as intensely about her exes as she feels about her (Mal) so she (Mal) isn’t sure what’s unique about her that makes Yolly want to do forever with her.

    I wonder how much of Mal’s feelings about starting a family have to do with the person she is dating versus her own potential issues with security and stability. Lexi seems to have her sh*t together, at least in a way Yoly doesn’t, and I suspect it puts Mal at ease knowing she doesn’t need to bear the financial burden of starting a family. Idk, I just think there more there about Mal rather than it being about Lexi or Yoly

    Girl! I love your videos! Here are my thoughts about the show… 😅 so in my opinion Vanessa is the realist on the show. She has said from the jump she does not want or is ready for marriage she has even come forward and said she is an influencer. The show is called the ultimatum for a reason and her reasons about going on the show is clear to me. The girl just wanted to hook up with another person who also was not ready for marriage and she can figure out how she feels about living with someone who is and will not have any feelings for her. Maybe this will be a wake up moment for her and she either understand that being free is exactly what she needs or she will miss someone actually caring and having feelings for her. Also aside from Vanessa lol girl there are so many couples together just to be on the show. There is no way in my opinion that all of these girls are even attracted to one another lol like come on. Tiff and Sam really ? And Mildred and Aussie lol In my opinion they got together because there was no one else. Those two couples are also not exploring a real connection because they are not compatible at all. Both Mildred and Tiff have mentioned sex is so important and their partners now welp I don’t see that same sex drive although I could be wrong but lol I’m a way all of the couples are a joke and it is entertaining just because they are all lost in feelings that honestly they just want to be loved and no one is looking for marriage lol in my opinion 😂

It's a learning curve for all of us, and you will get it wrong, at points, and guess what, it's allowed. Keep doing the best you can, some folks just want to get on a soap box to invalidate another human, and when someone does that it says everything about them and nothing about you.
