    Happy Christmas and Merry New Year! Tank is looking amazing, all the corals as well as your fish look healthy and happy! I agree with you that you do not need a sump and every million dollar piece of equipment to have a saltwater tank. You are definitely doing the proper water changes and cleaning of your canister filters and tank maintenance. Looking forward to seeing more updates and more corals!

    Happy New Year to you. I think basic set up is adequate for fish only tank with some soft corals. We should clarify this so beginners won't be confused. At the end of the day complexity of equipments depend on types of livestocks you want to keep. Beginners should be informed that they can't keep SPS and some LPS with basic lights or unstable parameters.

    Awesome video as usual. Are you testing your water parameters, nitrate, phosphate etc.?

    • @SimpleAquariumsLauren
      @SimpleAquariumsLauren  Před 3 lety

      Thank you 😊😊
      I’m not testing anything 🙊😬🤫
      I’ll test salinity and that’s it. Instead of chasing the perfect parameters, I decided to just focus on consistent maintenance and tank cleaning. 😊 I know that’s also a big “no no” though 😬
      I guess having a large tank, I have a lot more time to react before anything goes really bad.

  • @spencepreece1884

    Not sure you will see this, But I feel I should let you know you are just turning the clock back with your set up. Many moons ago, and I mean many, When I first got into the hobby we used canister filters, under gravel filters, and the one I had in my first reef tank we used PVC, window screen, and different sizes of sand to create a filter called a plenum. I'm glad to see young people figuring out you can have a successful tank without draining the bank. The one thing I will warn you about it if you have a power outage be sure to open the canisters and leave them open until the power comes back on. Saltwater tends to get fouled faster than fresh. Don't want to pump bad water into your display tank.
    Good luck to you.

    with no skimmer or refugium/algea reaktor, there will be no3 and po4 build up? do you do large water change to reduce it ? :)

    • @SimpleAquariumsLauren
      @SimpleAquariumsLauren  Před 3 lety

      I do water changes weekly, however I did just buy a small surface skimmer and seeing how that goes. (My latest video showing that) just because I have tangs that eat a lot haha 😊

      @@SimpleAquariumsLauren I cleaned it out and put a some fish in it and 1 fish died but the rest seem to be ok. Do you think it was because of natural causes or because of the salt?

    • @SimpleAquariumsLauren
      @SimpleAquariumsLauren  Před 3 lety

      Did you have any freshwater beneficial bacteria in the tank? If you use the same equipment, that’s fine but still need to make sure the tank is cycled or has filter media (from another freshwater tank) that will instantly cycle the tank. 😊
      With my tank (but was going freshwater to saltwater) I got some live rock out of an established tank to help the tank cycle.
