It's not just america has this bubble. Malaysia too as with the muslim bumis in Malay Peninsular. China too? Having said that, as for China, I still feel that China political system works well for China for now. As a chinaman, at least China should make sure that Judicial truly independence. Imperial China has a very interesting department called Censorate Bureau which is as powerful as the Judiciary in Old England.

Donald Trump wasn't the cause, he's a symptom of American dissatisfaction. As much as you try to singluarly pin the blame on him, Trump did not start any new wars while he was in power, and Trump was interested in making deals with other world leaders. But look at Biden, and he's literally detested by other world leaders and unable to make deals with anyone.
America is falling apart and these scumbags are spending tax payers dollars on Israel . That money should be spent on Americans out of work and in need of healthcare and other things. What a joke !!!!!!!!

@@timloo6191 blah blah..China bad, Russia bad, NK bad, etc. This supports the idea that the US, as the war to force the world back to Bretton-Woods and the Petrodollar crumbles, is looking to try to create outright war with Russia and China, whose Rubles and Yuans are rapidly displacing the self-destructing dollar for international trade and banking.
Let us be clear; Russia does not want or need to invade anyone. It is the United States that has been invading, bombing, drone-striking, and no-so-covertly overthrowing governments to install puppet rulers friendly to US financial interests. 17 nations so far on two continents. Technically the US has already started a new world war. Plus operations are underway to overthrow elected governments and replace them with puppet regimes in many other nations, including the US overthrow of Ukraine's elected government last January which is why we are in this mess now.
It is the US that wants to start a war with Russia, but want to make it look like it is Russia's fault!
I left 30 years ago. I shake my head everyday. The US is like living in Medeival times.
did watch the whole thing. just find a short one to reply. the problem is not media, politician.... it is the very system called democracy which is the source of all evil and the most belligerent system mankind ever had. you can almost trace almost every conflicts around the world back to united states. united states also tried it best again and again to stir up a war in Taiwan but failed again and again. this is the only exception that American evil scheme does not work because it deals with CHINA.

I'm an Australian who travelled many times to America for work over many years. Like Cyrus I also found it amazing how "America centric" people are there, how ignorant they about other countries and hard it is to find news there on the rest of the world. It seems ironic to me that a nation whose government is so involved and focused on other countries around the world has a population at home with no interest in those same places.
That’s how the American govt gets away with so much intervention in other countries, because most of it is hidden from their own people

I can confirm the truth of your statement. I've also traveled extensively as a pilot, Because of the woeful MSM in the US, Americans generally have a very limited and warped understanding of international affairs. Put another way. Through the governments efforts and little exposure to the truth they have been brainwashed to believe in US exceptionalism and everyone else the enemy or uneducated. The average Iranian has a far greater understanding of international affairs than most American who'd be hard pressed to find Singapore on a map
I live in Spain and I pay for private health care. It's $67 per month at 36 years old. I have had an MRI, 10 doctor visits and mild surgery this year and it didn't cost me a penny more. Also waiting times were non existent. USA has a lot of problems.
It's honestly ridiculous how this country is, especially when it comes to being a mother.
You can't take off work to be a mother, then you're shunned from society because you're not going back to work.
Look, either raise my child or pay my Bills, cause I'm not going to kill myself to do both.
That's why I chose not having children because it's far less stressful via trying to be pregnant, birthing a baby and nursing a baby while working all at the same time.
I've even known women who has C-sections and had to go back to work two days later.
Oh, for my hernia surgery I waited 2 months.
My MIL had a heart attack in November and the appointment for her specialist was scheduled in January. My MIL could have had another heart attack during that time and died.
My Dad lives in Thailand and he paid a whopping $75 for x-rays and a doctor visit out of pocket.
Meanwhile here in the states I pay under $400 for healthcare, $40 for copay upfront just to see the doctor, then $75 per each x-ray, lab and anything else which will be billed to me.
Many of us in the US stay sick with ailments and growths on us because we just can't afford the doctor Bills.
Starting from three months ago I didn't have my period for nearly 8 weeks, wasn't pregnant and wasn't starting menopause. Didn't see a doctor because we couldn't afford the other Bill.
That's sad when something is physically wrong with you and you can't afford to see a doctor.

In Sweden it’s your right by law that you can take 120 working days off per year if your child is sick until the child is the day before 12y.. employers are not allowed to discriminate you in any way due to that nor question it. There is a special fund set aside for that, paying you 80% of your salary during all those 120days. Sure nobody takes all those days every year. But technically you could. Sure after few days they do need a Dr. to sign off the child’s illness.
Also even the father/parent that didn’t give birth to the child has the right to 10days off work paid for at 80% straight after birth.
Also during 400days or so you can split it however you want between you two just to take days off to spend with your child, also paid for 80%. But I think the father has to at least take 90days/90days are reserved for at least one parent and cannot be transferred to the other (so only if he doesn’t want it at all). Also written into the law the worker is not allowed to be discriminated in any way for taking them days out nor tried to be forced to work anyways or questioned in any way about it.
It’s also kinda crazy with these laws that most swedes have very low birth rates anyways haha

Destroying others is in the American DNA, the sooner China learns that, the better. Keep saying "we can be friends and work out our differences" will eventually be the death of China.
No, hold the power is the end goal, you need to improve to get the power and keep it, but if you are declining, you use everything to stop it.

And this actually true for any people in any countries. Traveling to any country will open a person eyes. Even traveling to neighboring countries with almost the same culture.
It is good that Cyrus is currently back in US+Canada to refresh his understanding of the state of both countries, for his children to have dual understanding of the similarities and differences of Western vs Eastern Culture and mindset.
More importantly to be a ambassador bridge between the China and US to minimise of an accidental nuclear WW3.
I left 21 years ago. I am never, ever going back. As I said to my family, "Nice knowing you". Leaving was the absolute BEST life decision I ever made. I told everyone who would listen that a major virus would be weaponized against the people. I began working exclusively online 20 years ago for this reason. I told them that censorship was coming. It would be the 1st step toward ultimate martial law and a total police state. People laughed and ridiculed me. Some even called me crazy. That's when I knew I was spot on in my predictins. As a Scot who has lived in the continent of Europe for about 30 years and just returned to the UK, I can see many of the same problems you have described happening in the UK. In my opinion it all started in the 1980s with Regan and Thatcher and the destruction of domestic manufacturing in favour of service industries.
Hi Alistair. But this is normal. Once upon a time the ship building industry of Britain went to Japan because they did it cheaper. Then Japan suffered the same fate when it moved to other asian countries. It's life. Whomever builds it cheaper and pays their employees the least gets the contract. Same with the garment/fabric industries.
Check out the state of Britain before Thatcher got it. There's a lot more to this than left right politics. Ideas are the biggest issue, look at the current craziness with identity politics. Individual greed plays a role too.

I grew up in South Korea as a military kid. I came to the U.S. for college and was so confused and overwhelmed by all the differences I saw. In the small scale it can be humorous, but on the large scale I see pain, division, and anger.

First time seeing one of your videos. I agree with most that you said. Like you, I went abroad in 2007. I was fed up with corporate America and so many other things here. From 2007 to 2013, I lived in Korea and adapted well. Back in the 1980s, I lived in England and Greece while serving in the military. I have been back in America for ten years and think about leaving almost every day. Blessings to everyone who reads this.
I have gotten to be a senior in this country and it's the biggest regret of my life . Over the years I've seen the decline turning USA into a dystopia which is my dilemma and grief because my young family are here starting their lives with an infant, struggling financially . My brothers and I made sure our children are provided with superior education , equipped with ADVANCED degrees, married professionals with Masters , PhD degrees as well yet why are they living a hand to mouth existence? Only paid pittance (for example by HEALTHCARE CORPS) despite exceptional qualifications, by these well known trillion $$$$$ corporations which DON'T PAY TAXES. The mortgage they pay drains their salaries to the bottom , daycare costs leave them scraping the dredge of what's left.
YET BIG CORPS ARE GIVEN LOANS BY FEDERAL BANK INTEREST FREE, even NEGATIVE INTEREST meaning the FEDERAL BANK will reward them more taxpayers money for obtaining those loans . WTF. ! ! ! SEVERAL big banks lately still bankrupted taxpayers' depositors money which they loan to SCAMMERS big businessmen like TRUMP , WYNN and more because Trump and the Republicans , SEC 's BANKING DEREGULATIONS. " Should we go or should we stay " is the refrain that keeps playing in our minds. Next door is very welcoming with generous offers . All degree holders and professionals should make a run for it for greener pastures ( USA has become a MIRE/POVERTY TRAP ) for hardworking , honest, intellectuals) and cause a brain drain, but what's the possibility of these CRIMINAL THIEVING CORPORATIONS to move next door to run their nefarious operations there , infect and spread their business cancer and corruptions ( into political systems and government) as they have done already in other countries?

@@jvs333 I asked my wife where she’d go if she could go anywhere and was legit shocked when she said Vietnam! She has a cousin whose father was a POW over there for 3-4 years during the war. My father came back a month before Tet 1968 retired rather than take a second tour. So the country doesn’t exactly bring back fond memories…but I was legit happy to hear that the Vietnamese people had rebuilt their country and were moving forward so I put the place on my bucket list. She watched a Lifetime romance where the heroine wound up there and did the same. I recently googled the currency exchange rate between the USA and Vietnam and let her know that my veteran pension would stretch quite nicely…! A “recon” is in order…
My response to some of the complaints above:
Kids are a luxury, not a necessity so yeah, they pay out of the nose for daycare etc. Your kids need to get a smaller home with a lower mortgage payment and move out of a high cost of living area.
Believe it or not having a masters degree, and marrying educated people doesn't guarantee comfort or great paying jobs, moreover this feeling of being entitled to 'the good life' is just a false notion that at the end of the day you personally are wrestling with. The conflict in essence is that what you see going on is in stark contrast to these notions of guaranteed prosperity you hold so dear.
Tell the kids to spend less, save, and lower their fixed costs. Next topic
When it comes to healthcare, I totally agree with Cyrus. We don't have a Healthcare system for the people. We have a healthcare industry!

In China if you get hurt...you cannot get in a hospital for treatment....in the US you can they cannot refuse treatment for you...he won't tell you these things.

I went to Camp America in 1992 and although I had been to America before I found it crazy when I saw the American bubble at work. I heard people talking about how America is the best country in the world yet they never travelled outside of the country some never ventured outside of their own state.
In the 1990’s I wanted to move to the US and probably would have but my relatives told me the reality of life in the US and the more I travelled the more I saw it for myself. I love visiting the US but true happiness is not found by chasing the American dream.

I love this!! I love this!! Love my country but at 8 or 9yrs old, I opened my older cousins Spanish book and learned there was another world out there. I started learning different languages and cultures around the world. I knew about everything you mentioned in this video. It’s sad that our country is like this. I don’t have an American materialistic mindset. I keep my phone for at least 4-5 years at a time, my kids get two gifts for Christmas. We travel and it’s always hard to get back on the return plane
but I’m hoping we can become digital nomads in 2024.
If Americans travelled more, or even just had access to more truthful media of the outside world, they will be able to better reflect on the problems of their own society and find solutions to fix them, instead of focusing on trivial differences and shifting blame to faceless “others”.

Most average American's geography is limited to knowing where Canada and Mexico are. The rest of the world is a fog to them.
@@weizhang2834 it’s a matter of priority and attitude dictated by culture. Based on the demographics of exchange students and backpackers travelling around the world on shoestring budgets, travelling to other countries is just culturally not a priority for Americans.

Sadly Canada is following the US footsteps. Our media is basically getting fed from the US media. Politicians, so many parties that is just a waste of time to even look at them. Our infrustructure is old and outdated. Homelessness, drugs and guns are are getting out of control.
I came back to Canada after 12 years in China and I am still in shock after 5 years at how backward Canada is in comparison. For me, it is like time travel to 1970 in Canada after being in China. Yes, Canada is totally in the bag with the US and the world has known it for a long time.

This is true. Being a citizen of The Netherlands and having lived in Asia...taking care of the person next to you or a fellow countrymen through taxes gives the country a harmony and a chance...to stay healthy and grow in the broadest sense of the word.
I lived in Europe for almost 20 years and Asia for 3 years when I returned in 2015 I did not recognize America. Returning was a shocking change. thanks for sharing.

@@rynodivino I think it is fair to say that the general American public is more oblivious to other countries, but when it comes to the government that manipulates finance, oil, or warfares, there could be some truth there. One will find that a certain country is benefiting from wars or financial crisis in other countries. It may be accidental or may also be intentional. The truth is probably still in the archive.
I feel there is a silent majority in the middle that is struggling and crying for some true leaders to unite the country with honesty, kindness, and unselfishness. However, the election system is so out of date and not able to keep up with the need of the people, society and future.
No political systems are perfect. Ultimately the leaders and elites always take decisions tilting for their own personal benefits. First slavery, then taking advantage of other countries, finally taking advantage of their fellow citizens through commercial practices. So "some true leaders to unite" are truly needed.

Elections are not designed to meet the need (sic), society and future. It is designed to count votes.
Someone here mentioned : "America's happiness is built on other countries misfortunes" i would say : " America's happiness is built on the misfortunes of the vast majority of its citizens"
Americans should have more holidays so they can travel overseas and get a better perspective of the world around them and have a more objective view of the country they live in. While in the US, I've meet some very well off locals who only been to Mexico and Canada. I blame it on the lack of leave they get and the timing of it.
Great video. Not being an American, I'm so glad that there's an American who feels the same way about the US as me. I used to look up to the US with a lot of respect and admiration. I have come across numerous Americans who have left a deep impression on me through their magnanimity, generosity, selflessness and extraordinary kindness. I don't know when it started but over time, the US as a nation appeared to have changed imperceptibly for the worse, finally culminating in a nation that is almost beyond recognition. Cyrus has so accurately and succinctly listed all the major factors. The chief culprits no doubt are the American politicians, the big corporates and the media. In cahoots with each other, they have hijacked the entire nation to enrich themselves at the expense of the wellbeing and the long term interests of the people. It is no wonder that while the US continues to pride itself on being the beacon of liberal democracy, the rest of the world looks on it as a hypocritical kleptocracy.

Well said. I immigrated the States from Latin America in 1980, the U.S.A that I met in 1980 was a completely different country in almost everything. The U.S.A has changed for the worst, big decline.

I left in 82 and returned in 2000. One shock was car insurance. I was paying $200 a year overseas. When they told me what they wanted for six months, I almost passed out.

I live in Indonesia a developing country. If we need health care in hospital almost free of charge even when we use a sophisticated machine like RMI, We pay for 60 rph or about 4$US a month for health insurance. As far as I know the USA is the most advanced country. Buildings are magnifient, roads are wide , no traffic jams, technology are super. Sometimes I feel envy and really want to visit the country and stay there for some days. But I wonder and really don't understand why there are so many disopinting facts such as homeless people, criminals, drug abuse on some city streets. Really horrific. And I also wonder why don't their other family members take care of them? 😢

The American Bubble is reminiscent of the late Qing Dynasty Bubble where people within the last dynasty had this bubble that nothing happening outside China mattered.

I can't agree more with you Cyrus, when I traveled for my vacation every year (I can't say many countries but several), the more I traveled the more I feel that people in the world are similar, no matter which race or culture we are, we all want to work hard to have a better job, better earnings and have a better life for our family! When we travel more then we realize that we know too little about this world, it's good to explore and get more information from different channels, not only one or two of the major Medias. The Earth is round, don't think about the place we live is the center of the world, we need to expect with each other, expect the cultures that are different from ours. As you said, every country has its positive and negative things.

Agree on the healthcare industry. I work on the finance side of healthcare. My heart cries for patients. It is an industry indeed. You can have healthcare coverage but if it is not premium coverage, and if you visit the doctor more than once (after your annual physical), be prepared to shell out hundreds or even thousand dollars. Thats just the start. Your other option is Medicaid which ironically requires that your annual income is really dirt poor to qualify.
Cyrus brings up many excellent points. Number 6 stands out to me the most. Like Cyrus, I'm a Canadian and moved to Indonesia in 2017. I didn't realize until I moved abroad, how the world actually functions and that not everything is as it seemed when I was in Canada. I got to learn about the world heck, I also learned about the USA, sorry to say Cyrus, but it turns out the USA is one of the evilest countries in the world, that aside, this is probably one of my favourite Cyrus videos, because the points about (if possible) travel abroad and put ourselves in another countries perspective, and materialistic goods is not everything. Here in Indonesia, people here have enough it's al they need. They aren't attacked to commercial goods and so for. Back then in Canada, I always have to have nice things to impress people I always have to dress to impress, now I don't live that mindset, and it also changed me.

The US lady shot me another question: but can the people own personal properties like a house?

I spent my early life travelling to all Western countries like UK, US, Australia, Europe, etc. I was well travelled. Then I decided to go to China. Initially, 20 years ago, it was developing. But since 10 years ago I think they have superseded the west in every way. Come and see it.

Great video. I had lived in the silicon valley area of California for quite a few years, Sunnyvale and Mountain View. I moved back to the UK in 2006. The property prices in the silicon valley are very high indeed.

I was born in Hong Kong, Chinese, and have lived in Hong Kong and based in the UK. I used to think BBC is not biased, but after looking at the reporting of the riots in Hong Kong a few years back and having lived there whilst it was happening, I cannot believe what was being reported in the UK and in the US. I have also traveled to China and the US and can see how the Chinese government has done much to make lives better for the masses and not just just for the privileged few. I cannot see the same for the UK and US. I have now told my adult children in their early twenties to listen to analysis from people like yourself on the internet, and to source news from a wider spectrum across the world. I have not been abroad. But I agree with you. I am old enough to remember that it was truly rare to see TV drug ads 20 years ago. Now it is all ask your doctor. What is funny is the side effects often sound worse than the disease they are trying to fix. They put it in tiny print on the screen and speak super quick about the possible side effects of the drug they are advertising. I wonder how many rich people talk to their doctor about an ad they saw on TV. It must be working because over time there seems to be more of them. And yes health care costs keep rising faster than inflation and basic health care quality not so much. There is money for Ukraine and the MIC but not for crumbling infrastructure. The airports in parts of the US, now, are comparable to the 3rd World. I do believe that nevermind, comparing them to Europe, Japan, Singapore or China.

Cyrus, you could have mentioned the Military Industrial Complex. It is estimated that the US has killed 20 million foreigners since WW2 including 2 million North Koreans, 3 million Vietnamese, 1.5 million Iraqi's and 0.5 million Afghani's. Iraq was invaded based on lies about Weapons of Mass destruction but the US talks to others about a "rules based" international order but the rules do not apply to itself. The US has 140 overseas bases, spends more on warfare than the next 14 countries combined and has invaded 48 countries since WW2. Fortunately, the rest of the world is waking up and rejecting domination and control by the US.

In South America , pharma companies can run ads on TV , but for medicines that you can take without a doctor , like Flu treatment , aspirins and similar pills , eye drops , digestion aid medicine ,anti acids , laxatives , and so on . Prescription drugs are indeed ilegal to advertise anywhere.

I work in the maternity leave space for a large company. You are so right. Great observations on our country and its profit based systems. I had no idea, though that it was only the United States and Papua New Guinea that do not offer a paid maternity leave.
It's wild! I lived in Canada for 5 years and the government provides mothers 12 months maternity leave and that can be extended up to 18 months, soo needed in society to raise good children!

I hitchhiked to the Oracle in Delphi, went to Plaka on the Acropolis cliff and from there to Istanbul. returned to Denmark to finish high school. Four days after graduation I had sold all of my library and other belongings and was heading back to Istanbul to go through the Middle East and Afghanistan (the best) aiming at India and ran straight into the 1965 war between India and Pakistan, started by the latter. Bombing is the absolute terror, something the US excells in. Europe is also awful. Asia is best and will lead in the future.

What is so awful over here in Europe? I think a lot of things are really arranged well. We have very low violence rates, women, gays etc are all finding a place where you can live. We have a problem here in that racism rears its ugly head again. That is sad and the focus on Muslims (but it seems to subside). I think it depends on what you value.
Asia has it's moments of absolute terror like the division of India and Pakistan and their three wars, China's Cultural Revolution, it's brutal invasion of Tibet and subjugation of minorities, Burma's genocide of their Muslim minority, the war between Sri Lanka and the Tamils, the genocide of Cambodia, etc. Asia is on a downward drift due to massive pollution, rapidly aging societies and the lack of funding to deal with climate change.

Your American bubble concept reminds me of my giving a test to my geography class at Boston University in 1977 when I was a young professor there. I gave my students a map of the world and asked them to locate a number of countries. Most of the class failed. I was on the news that evening because it was considered newsworthy.
