- Satellite images have revealed that North Korea is building sections of what appears to be a wall in several places near its border with South Korea.
Images analysed by BBC Verify also show that land inside the Demilitarised Zone has been cleared, which experts say could be a violation of the long-standing truce with South Korea.
The exact date construction began is unclear, but these structures were not visible in an image captured in November 2023.
This recent activity is “unusual”, according to experts, and comes at a time of rising tensions between the two countries.

They have an increased north Koreans fleeing to the more friendly south, I suppose. In 2023 there was only 99 or so, but this year they are more, probably.

Ermm, I thought North Koreans flee by going to China first then fly to South Korea as far as I know it's almost impossible to flee directly from the North to the South but easier through China.

Hardly anyone escapes North Korea through the DMZ, almost all escapees cross the Yalu river into China, and from there head to a country that deports north koreans to the south such as Mongolia or Thailand. This is probably more symbolic than anything.
It could also be to prevent their soldiers from accidentally crossing over, they have done it 3 times this month
There were so many people making videos of how they escaped north korea and posting it on youtube and suddenly they stopped posting and no posts about it anymore.... There all trapped inside there now

So let me get this right... to build the wall you have to do it inside your own territory. Once they are complete, the South Koreans should move their territorial claim right up against that wall and claim the extra land.

North Korea's leader said last year that he has given up on peaceful reunification with South Korea...so there will be a lot of constructions indicating a hard military border with South Korea...there were also islands that North Korea gave to South Korea...which will lead to tensions here..

IF north korea want to clear laand on their side of the boarder no one can tell other wise. it is a defensive move. So nothing to fear. if north korea tries to cross at that point into south lorea their actions would be clearly seen.

It sounds more and more to me like South Korea wants North Korean lands back and North Korean going into defensive pacts and building walls are upsetting . .
If defensive fortifications (forts, landmines, walls, etc) are being built it is a strong indications that North Korea plans to not invade (eg; why place landmines if you plan to cross it in future?). It should only be upsetting if South Korean planned to attack or something and if they did plan to attack they are being idiots.

Walls aren't enough of a passive defense (see 7/Oct/2023 in the Middle-East). It's only enough with additional measures (like in Ukraine/Russia) mines, tank blockers etc.
Adding those last ones would be a red flag. Yes it can be claimed as defense but it can be a prelude to war.
