    Glad to see Kobo continue to challenge and innovate, but I'm apprehensive: I have a Libra and love it, but I'm a book-guy. I'm not interested in wifi, audiobooks, or note takers; and I don't want to pay for features I'll never use. I don't want ereaders to become just link tablets rather than purpose designed digital reading devices.

    • @Bavubuka
      @Bavubuka Před 2 lety +1

      Exactly. I don't know why ereaders are turning into wanna be tablets when it can never be a powerful as a table and that not we want ereaders for. We want ereaders to read books period. All those bells and whistles are totally useless for most readers.

    1:46, "significantly heavier". Not sure if most would find 23 grams to be so, but I wonder if it would be enough to tire the average wrist more than the previous version if you were holding it upright one handed for a prolonged period.

    My Libra 2 just got delivered today. It’s fantastic. Everything is just a little bit more polished than the LibraH20: the screen is a hair bigger and noticeably sharper, if feels more sturdy in the hand, and the buttons click more positively. The Libra 2’s screen temperature doesn’t get quite as cool as the Libra H20’s, but it does look more even across all brightness levels and color temps.
    One important advantage the H20 retains is that it’s definitely more comfy to hold one-handed. The Libra 2 is heavier than the H20, and the new hand bevel isn’t as good at handling the weight as the original model. Not that the Libra 2 is uncomfortable by any means- far from it. But the H20 was wonderfully pleasant to hold, whereas the 2 is merely comfortable. Overall, not a huge deal.

    • @MeriDoug
      @MeriDoug Před 2 lety +2

      No problem to convert all your books to a Kobo format using Calibre if you were thinking about moving from the Amazon ecosystem. Of course, no problem converting Kobo books for a Kindle, either. The newest Paperwhite gets USB, so that's nice, but they won't have the physical page turn buttons.

  • @Simulachronos

    Is the screen backlight flashing fixed in the new forma?

  • @scottr.7077
    @scottr.7077 Před 2 lety +2

    Wait a minute. So the Sage may or may not have have fixed the PWM flickering? I'll wait for the reviews. Also, from the Kobo website, it looks like it won't include the stylus or cover which costs an additional $70. That brings the total to $330. A little too expensive for my blood when the larger reMarkable 2 is out there for $399.
    Nice bump on the storage for both devices but not so on the increased device weight. I wish they made a Sage version without the additional note layer. More layers usually means less clarity.

  • @mattronwilliams7327
    @mattronwilliams7327 Před 2 lety +6

    Honestly I dont know why kobo doesn't release a more affordable version of the libra. I like the bigger screen, the page turn buttons, the high resolution and the comfort light but beyond that it's hard for me to shell out lots of money for waterproofing, 32gb of storage (even 4gb stores a lifetime of ebooks!) And audiobook and blutooth support (Alot of phones have plenty of storage for audiobooks especially with an SD card). I feel like they could have a version without many of the premium features and sell it for $80 less. The cost also goes up if you also consider a sleepcover.

      Up until now, kobo products have always been made in Taiwan.
      In the first half of 2021, they took a little bit of a delay and moved their manufacturing over to China and created the two most out of character kobo products: the Nia and Elipsa .
      We are unsure as to why they moved their manufacturing over there, and are also unsure as to whether the new devices will be made back in Taiwan or China

    Awesome! I predicted that the successor to the Forma would be called the "Forma Edition 2", but it seems that Kobo themselves came up with a better name - the "Sage"! Cool!
    I'm hoping they fixed the frontlight flicker issue that some Forma owners complained about.
    I'm predicting that a successor to the Clara HD is imminent.
    (2:28) I believe that's in order to make space for Kobo audiobooks, and support for that on their e-readers is something I believe they're hard at work on behind closed doors. On top of that, the Kobo print-replica reading experience is already better on their dedicated e-readers than in their Android tablet app.
    (2:44) Looks like it'll be the same price as the outgoing Libra H2O, at least here in Singapore (as indicated by "SGD").
    (3:17) I'm very sure that's true, as they called it the "Kobo Stylus" rather than "Kobo Elipsa Stylus".
    (4:54) I'm certain Kobo created the Nia because Tolino wanted an entry-level e-reader they could sell for €99 (at least in Germany) that they called the Page 2, then Kobo probably decided to take the same hardware and/or design for themselves and sell it as the Nia.

      I bought 2 of them for my girlfriend and I 33 days ago...3 days outside the return window. This has all the upgrades I wish the H20 had...I went online to chat to see if I could swap them for the new Libra 2 and they said no...needless to say I'm salty about it.

      I was thinking of selling mine too...but with the new one announced I wouldn't be surprised if the old ones prices take a pretty big hit so I'm not sure it'll be worth the loss. Especially as the 2 are basically brand new - hardly used at all yet. Sigh

    Redundant models, what are they doing at Kobo??? ... specs are relative, super expensive (all accessories are to be sold separately) ... we needed an Elipsa 2 with real software improvements, better integration, better output ... faster .... sigh :-) I'm not excited. In real life these won't matter much over the forma ... cause the price will exceed the performance ratio .... product line seems wishy washy , I just don't get it ... then at least terminate the older models and include the accessory packs as they did with the elipsa ...
