  • The main selling points of the Kobo Libra 2 are the high resolution display which are great for reading ebooks. It is also using a new E INK Carta 1200 panel, which increases page turn speed. This is the first Kobo e-reader to have audiobook support and has a new audiobook store in the Kobo bookstore.

Can we expect a manga test for the Libra 2 (or Sage)? They both boast of the newer E INK Carta 1200, plus a new CPU for the Sage. And that Kobo JP is pushing hard for manga in their promotions.

Thanks very much for your review it was very informative. One thing I would be interested to find out about is the relative performance of the searching capability between different ereader makes. I think I prefer Kobo (I have Kobo Libra H2)) to Amazon ereaders but I think their searching capability is not as good. Sometimes I eventually find a book on Kobo but I have to try several different search methods and combining terms seems to confuse it.

Great video. I have narrowed down second e-reader to this and the Kindle Paperwhite 11. Deal breaker for us: Is there an audible click when you press the Kobo page-turn buttons? I like the page-turn buttons on my old Kindle Keyboard 3 (silent), but no reviews are mentioning if newer e-readers with page-turn buttons are silent. (Have heard that the Kindle Oasis has noisy buttons.) I read in bed late at night and wife would not appreciate the click....click....click...every time I turn a page.

I know it can only play Kobo books now but I would be more likely to buy it if an upgrade in the future is possible. These have just gone on sale in the UK at Kobo's online store. £129 brand new, £119 for a refurbished unit. I've just picked one up as my very first e-reader.
USB-C is what sold me, although the sunken screen is also a massive plus. But so are the 7" screen, Kobo's lax and welcoming e-book formats, bigger battery, warm light, etc.

The Kobo iPhone app appears to limit modification of font type and size to only books purchased through kobo. Side loaded books stay with the tiny publisher font. Does the Libra 2 have that same weird limitation? If so, that is an ultimate deal breaker. The entire point of an ereader is to be able to manipulate the fonts (imo).

I received my Libra 2 a couple days ago. Booted it up, added my account info & read a book for awhile. Powered it off. Later, powered it back up and it froze during the boot up process. Tried doing a manual reset per Kobo and was still locked up. Contacted Kobo support via online chat. They agreed to replace it. Very cumbersome process for me the paying customer. I still haven’t received the email with the return label I need to print & then to add insult on top of injury, the return shipping cost is on me & they require you to provide a tracking number. They won’t send me out a replacement until my defective unit is back in their hands. And they say it can be 15 days before it’s processed! Excuse me, this was not an inexpensive device and now I’ll be without it for 2-3 weeks or more??
I kept trying to do the hard reset and finally it worked. Booted up & I went Thru the whole process again of adding my account info, updating software and downloading books. Turned it off and same thing happened. Eventually got the hard reset to work and now it’s in sleep mode, I notice it seems to barely use any battery in sleep mode so I’m tempted to just keep it and leave it in sleep mode when I’m not using it, kind of like my Kindle Signature edition.
Kobo ‘s “customer service” leaves much to be desired! If this were my Kindle, I’d have a replacement within 2 days, if my Nook , just a simple trip to B&N and I’d have my replacement but Kobo? Takes weeks and at you’re expense. Unacceptable! The think is, I love the Libra 2 . It’s got some great features.

I prefer Libra2 but it lacks of Dropbox Support.
At this point, it's pretty lame that Kobo is still using Dropbox as a selling point for their higher-end devices. Cloud-based book storage is a common feature for e-readers nowadays.
it’s annoying as the Kobo Forma/Sage/Elipsa has it but they won’t implement it on the lower end Kobos even though it’s clearly possible.

Playing audiobooks on a ereader just doesn't seem practical in a world where everyone carries a smartphone in their pocket.
I own a Forma and love it, but the only real feature I want to see from Kobo is faster/snappier navigation through menus, PDF's etc...
Also not sold on Kobo Plus, I think they'd get more interest from an audible like service where your 9.99 gives you monthly tokens you can spend on books that you then own even if you cancel subscription at a later time. I don't think the Netflix model of not owning anything you watch works with long form types of entertainment like books.

Some people actually want to keep their phone powered off during long-distance train rides, and if Kobo allowed USB audio devices to be used, long-distance aeroplane flights.

I’ve heard that the Kobo reverts back to the default settings for font, spacing etc. after you switch it off. This means every time you switch on the Kobo, you have to reset the fonts etc. before you can start reading. If this is true, it’s a deal breaker for me, and I’ll stick to my kindle.

That's not true. Even my 2012 kobo touch retains my font settings so your information is wrong

It’s all baloney they don’t tell you that the books that you get on kobo or twice as much as the books on kindle also that you can’t actually access overdrive anymore for some reason so that means you can’t borrow from the library

Another rubbish screen, too dull, looks nothing like real paper. I stick with my iPad 6 Mini.

Why should I buy this? Even the cheapest ipad is much more responsive. You can zoom in without problems, write, read and even watch movies. Secure for eye? I don't know anyone who has lost eye sight yet.
