Unboxing our Chinese mini excavator from Nuoman Engineering which we bought from Alibaba. See our video linked below for the step by step process for this purchase.
We strip off the carton and drive it off the trailer for the first time. We then test the machine and make sure all is OK.
Ian & Julie are building their tiny homestead and soon to be starting the biggest project of their lives - a Passive House Shipping Container Home which will be totally off grid.

Your wife’s excitement is fantastic. The only reaction one should be experiencing when receiving a mini digger 😂

I gave a like for her entuziasm !
I would never buy anything Chinese made , even there motorbikes last one month max
@@curtisducati be very careful with that comment, a lot of Chinese sympathizers on here.
When you get some experience, you’ll be able to load and offload the excavator without little ramps . Remember, with the boom you can lift yourself and push and pull . I use a trailer that doesn’t tilt, yet I can load offload with ease. Have fun !
Hope so, going to try it when all this rain stops.
Yup, couldn't believe making the extra little ramp. Lots of fun tricks to learn when using an excavator.
@@heartysteer8752 They will figure it out. Great fun for them.
If you end up pushing hard , rather than pulling ... Mb it won't be so good for it .
@@repentandbelieveinjesuschr9495 last I checked Jesus didn't have an excavator
The "clamp thing" is a muffler tip to direct the exhaust for the engine. The small black pouch with the spanners and screwdriver (and the exhaust tip) would normally ship with just the engine, if purchased separately.
greetings from China and im glad you like the digger. BTW, your wife's accent is exaclty the same as the English textbook audio i used to learn from.
What part of china are you from?
😅🤣😅
Her accent is British, but it's definitely not the best accent to Learn English from.. Unless you want to pronounce things oddly. I would choose a Canadian tutor but then again I may be biased.
Can you give me a price for digger including shipping…

Brilliant - I have a mini digger so useful! especially for lifting out tree stumps and grading off the land

As a mechanic that worked on Chinese manufactured forklifts my suggestion is to go over the unit & make sure hose clamps for coolant hoses are replaced as the Chinese ones are poor quality. If any parts like filters are manufacturer specific get extras. Also hydraulic hose fittings, check & be certain they are available at your local supplier. Just a couple issues I’ve experienced on the job.
I checked out the hydraulic lines and they are all available. It came with spare filters etc and I have matched them up locally. Good to hear from someone who has worked on similar - thank you for the advice it is greatly appreciated.
yes Chinese hydraulic threads are non standard not available in west
Also do a quick torque check on all fasteners and fittings
@Kiri Tiatia Otaraua O'C-TX5 not nft jic its there own rubbish threads
Budget Chinese tractors that get imported into Australia get the fluids replaced and regreased before sale here by importer.
As an equipment opperator I am so happy for you both! Your wife is so supportive and that is amazing to me! I wish you both the best and hope you enjoy your new excavator it is very cool! I would love to have one!
Thank you so much Jeff - I have got a little more experience with it now (not so scared). 👍🏻
One problem with machines is they make you dyslexic.
"You need an ejection bootin ..." I completely died when this sweet sweet lady said that ...great video. Thank you for sharing
Watching from Virginia USA, Great video, couple years back bought a Chinese backhoe for my subcompact tractor, it works well hope you get many years of use on your property…
Im in va also and order a sawmill from there and love it.
Great to hear, I am not worried at all. After inspecting this machine it is no different to a known brand, other than the cheaper motor - hence the price. Thanks for commenting.
Sweet Virginia!!!
What about parts supply , that is the major reason I have never bought any equipment off Alibaba . Even the things with a local dealer , parts are hard to get
Sorry that was an auto reply
Thanks for the video. Some Chinese tools are fine others give me deep regret. I appreciate your taking the risk for all of us. I’ll keep watching.
I will stick the wife on first....😆
no need to apologize, I could watch it tip on the trailer over and over and over, pure content
Nice to see the Ifor Williams trailer, a top quality piece of kit so well made 👍🏻🏴

I live in LA, I don't think I'll ever need machines like this but I enjoyed watching this video for some reason! Thank you for uploading this video.
No problem and keep watching, much appreciated.
Now that is subjective ;)
Great video, neat little excavator (“digger”) - FYI, when you have a ROPS (roll-over protective structure) you want a seatbelt to keep you inside the protective ROPS. Most people are injured or killed when they attempt to leap from a piece of equipment, and it rolls over them. The seatbelt keeps you inside the protective ROPS and keeps you from getting crushed.
Yes, seat belt is now fitted and I use it all the time.
As a chinese myself, i appreciate how people are accepting chinese products as they are, and not be overly critical on everything chinese
From a child all I have known is products are made in china - to me it is normal and probably over 50% of products in peoples house comes from China. So I had no problem buying directly from the factory. It was fun to do and I got a great deal too.
@@HomesteadingUncontained Yes, I told my colleagues that I bought my things from china, their immediate reaction was "Will it explode?" and just laughs.
You'll find most people are accepting of Chinese products. It's your politics that most people fear or are against.
@@unclejohn5012 shut up John
It's probably fine for a hobby but if you want something dependable jI would upgrade. You get what you pay for.
it helps if you have the throttle all the way up to have the hydros run a little smoother.
Having run a rental shop (the one in the big orange box) for many years, I have had the opportunity to see just about everything someone can do to break a Mini-Excavator. We had 1-ton, 1.5 ton and 2.5-ton excavators in the lineup, and I was forever pushing people to rent the bigger machines because the mini-ex was constantly broken by people trying to make it do more than its capabilities allowed. The most common complaint was it lacked power. Most of the time, people would run it at RPMs too low to produce the needed power. I noticed as you were moving the machine off the trailer you were doing the same thing. Setting the throttle lever at no less than 2000 rpm will give it the balls to do most of what its design specs allow. Higher RPMs will also protect the engine from overheating and stalling. Stalling a diesel engine is bad news.
Operating the machine at or above 2000 RPM will, to your wife's consternation, make the machine noisy and loud, but it makes you safer as the operator. If you put yourself in a position where the machine may tip over, having more speed to swing the cab and use the bucket to brace with can make the difference between giving yourself the option to tip-toe out of the position or getting squashed dead like a bug.
Regarding the seat belt. There's a comment here that's right on the mark about injuries to operators trying to jump off a rolling machine. He's right. It's the fastest, easiest way to commit suicide on an excavator or any other kind of construction equipment. staying on the machine while it rolls is how you survive. Also, should you roll the unit and pursue compensation through your insurance company, the instant they discover there is no seat belt, you'll be completely screwed and probably liable for prosecution. Put a seat belt on it ASAP.
Both the Bobcat and the Kubota 1-tons we rented were able to spread their tracks in and out for an increase in the track width by about 20 inches. This seemingly small change made a dramatic difference in the stability of the machine, and it was always the first thing I taught renters to do (after the throttle-up recommendation).
These are good, capable machines when used within their specs and tons of fun to operate if you're careful.
I just noticed the video "Mini-excavator pushed Hard..." which I haven't watched. I wonder what RPM you were running it at?
Good comment but what Good is a seat belt without a roll-cage?
@@briandbeaudin9166 If you've run one of these minis or even a riding lawn mower you know that bodily feeling you get when you know you're about to go over. If there's no hope of recovery then grab the sides of the seat and pull your torso down as hard as you can and duck your head. Your shoulders may bump the ground but the ROPS (Rollover Protection System) will prevent the machine from landing on top of you because even though it weighs a ton when it's rolling downhill it's moving way faster than you can. If you're not really pushing the limits the ROPS will stop the machine at flopping over on its side.
Just to clarify - it does have a roll bar (ROPS) and it also has a seat belt. I have only experienced the feel of going over on my Kubota tractor and I was able to control into the tip....the mini excavator is more like a bucking bronco at times 🤣
This comment (particularly on the safety) should be included in the description. In my experience, this is completely, 100% true.
Many people do not understand how hydraulic final-drives work in the context of the speed. They'll assume they are driving or moving slow, therefore the RPM's should be slow. They forget that the RPM's directly relate to how much power the hydraulic pump can generate.
The clamp may be a safety device you place around the hydraulic ram when doing maintenance such as greasing etc, my Chinese bobcat has one and the instructions say it stops the bucket arm from falling should the ram(s) fail, they usually creep down as it is. Be sure to run full throttle as the pumps work better/last longer that way, or they will struggle.
clampy thing looks like an exhaust tip :)
All religions are evil.
Love the color. Looks amazing
A useful Digger and a nice Couple that works together, this is the was how ist goes!.......happy digging from Austria!
Thank you so much for the nice comment - Julie, Ian
So just to give my two cents, for what they're worth. The only time you don't wear a seatbelt, is when operating without a roll bar (for example if you fold it down on a big commercial mower to go under park tree branches. You don't wear the seat belt, so you can jump off) If you have a roll bar or a cab, you always wear a seatbelt, because it fights your instinct and stops you jumping off. It keeps you within the safe area. Most of the time when people try and jump off a machine with a roll bar, you just end up getting trapped under the bar. The seatbelt is to stop you jumping off. Fun video tho, I enjoyed it. nice one
Totally convinced now and have purchased seatbelts for the digger and the tractor. Thank you for the comments, really appreciated.
A mini-ex is so handy, I hope to get one someday!

Great job, I like the way you guys work together.
thank you - lots of practise after 34 years.... yes we were kids when we met 🤣
I've operated diggers for 47 years all sizes, once you get used to it all the things become extensions of your arms and you won't even notice it. have fun playing with it rembers the guard on the lift ram is to protect it against the bucket hitting the ram because it will hit it. 👍✔️
Boy could I use one of these!. Thank you for sharing your experience with this excavator. Hope you have lots of fun while getting lots of work done with it.
We are using it a lot at the moment - just finished the footings for our workshop - it is going great. Thanks for watching.
Cute watching you drive it for the first time,. You will be a pro after few hundred hours. You will never use a ramp again. Looks like a super handy machine!
Yes, when I look back I cringe a little. I drive it off my smaller trailer now with ease and have been using it for months now on the build site. Thanks for watching.
That's actually even smaller than the koboda ones I've seen here around town for rent. I'd kind of like to pick me up one of those if they're build good and well, and can stand up to some digging.
There are even smaller 800kg units but the are just too small on how deep they can dig.
Most manufacturers make micro diggers, kubota do a kx008
The mini excavators and loaders are very expensive to rent where I live, and the delivery/pickup charges are close to the rental fee.
Engineeringof the machine should hold up to digging, its bad operating that wrecks machines
I feel everyone or at least one neighbor per street needs one of these
Our mayor has already asked to buy it when we have finished with it so they can use it in the village.
Best toy eva!!
Hi Ian & Julie, we've just started watching your videos and they are brilliant. Well narrated and so pleased that you don't use time lapse. Keep up the good work, regards Bob & Sharon
Cheers Bob - thanks for watching - I will try and keep the timelapse to a minimum 👍🏻
Clamp is a hydraulic hose protection clamp probably for the auger. I own a cat mini excavator and have a similar part on my auger
Great size machine to do the digging. I have a small TLB takes the back breaking labor out of digging. I’m not getting any younger.
Exactly my thoughts- scares me to death starting a new house build.
Enjoy your mini digger! 👍🏼
Cheers. Lots more to come
Made in China, so perfect, very suitable for home garden, very good, like
It is still going strong and works well.
I was particularly impressed with your careful and unhurried pace, not allowing enthusiasm or video duration to hurry you beyond what you knew to be prudent.
I have been interested in these sub-compact excavators for some time, and France has a domestic manufacturer of this type of machine.
I look forward to following your experience with your machine, subscribed.
I looked at the sphinx unit which I think is what you mean, but I could only afford the micro version which did not have a turn table - plus it was much smaller. They looked well made but just out of my price range.
Hey guys and congratulations on your diggers arrival. Its been a journey for you guys, at least you can get on with everything now.
So that clamp you were referring to, that is an exhaust diverter. When the engines are fitted to other applications, sometimes the exhaust points directly at other components so that clamp is used to re direct the hot gasses away.
Your little ex looks a better fit and finish to mine for sure. Well done guys and keep it up 👍😁 ooh and thank you for the shout out. I'm glad I helped where I could. I just hope she's just what you guys need.
Cheers Nick - need to wait until the rain stops and then I am out with the Auger to get some posts dug. Thanks for the tip on the exhaust clamp - I will take a look.
@@HomesteadingUncontained I keep an eye out for the auger video. Be interesting because I too have thought about one.
You won't need that exhaust clamp because they will have fitted a silencer style exhaust to lower the noise down. Just a spare part to put in the spare parts box 😄
This was my initial thought also, but is it possible it fits on the intake above the oil cooler maybe to stop rain being pulled in through the side vent?
Thank you for sharing this
Really enjoy the filming etc and something to watch back to remind me when I could do all of this 😀
You will find so many uses for it. I use a similar one at work and it's great.
It will save my back for sure..... and the wife's
@@HomesteadingUncontained Yes, and it's a lot of fun.
Check the exterior of the tool box to see if the clamp you questioned fits on it. The clamp may mount the tool box to the ROPS ( Roll bar)
Forget the 100h service, do it after 50h and this thing will do its job. Congrats, it's a cute thing. Always good luck with it!
Good tip - I tend to service early as I am always keen to get into the engine etc. Thanks for watching
Yeah You can’t really change the oil too much. Cut the filter too. Gives you a good look if there’s anything happening.
very nice product from china!
It is working great 👍🏻
Your right about the cost of plywood.
I heard a story about Japan buying glass bottles from Russia years ago. Japan didn't want the glass bottles. They wanted the rare wood that the bottles were shipped in.
When the packaging costs more than the items, something is wrong... we have used the packing case for our concrete forms and covering holes - so well worth saving it. 👍🏻
Nice little unit! You may want to put the lots for your roll bar the other way so there is less sticking out go catch on things
Put it on the other way and there would be less chance of hitting your head too.
Good idea about the foam on the roll bar
Absolutely required. Scary looking. My muscle memory reflexes kick in.
Outstanding. I am soooo jealous. Congrats. It does not look all that dinky. It looks very practical and useful.
Thanks so much for watching - it will save the back for sure.
the way this woman spits her words is like watching pepa pig, so cool😍
Makes me happy
As others have already said, there was no need to make or use a ramp.
Extend boom out about half way,
drive off/forward until you get to edge of trailer,
put bucket on ground and lift the machine's front end just a bit,
drive forward again while pulling boom back, until tracks front are fully supported on the ground,
Lift bucket and spin 180 put bucket down, as close to machine, on trailer
lift machine off trailer
Drive backward/off trailer while extending boom
clear trailer let machine down.
haha, I know, I will get the hang of it. I did make the ramp to try and protect the lights on the rear of the trailer, but it was more of a pain than helpful so I have ditched it. Cheers for watching and commenting.
@@HomesteadingUncontained I'm sure you will get the hang of it pretty fast.
Engine not quite as buttery as the Yanmar engines usually used in these small diggers but for the price unbelievable value to do a couple of smallholder projects.
Yes, If I had the budget it would have been Yanmar or Kubota - but that was an extra 4k.
What’s the price please? Thanks man
I run mine in over 100 degrees And she stays very cool. I never even need to turn on the oil cooler. Very smart getting the ram guards also 👍🏻👌🏼💪🏼
It was 35 deg C the other day and I could feel the heat through the controls, so I just flicked it on to be safe. It was probably the sun heating up the outside of the machine more than anything else. Thanks for commenting, ,much appreciated. 👍🏻
How cute!
Great vid. You might wanna have a box made for around your hydro hoses in back for the hydro motors that drive the tracks, junk could break those hoses, hello from Alaska USA

Cool little machine! Probably a smart idea to put the oil cooler on it, especially for when you’re using the auger. Watching from Canada 🇨🇦
Yes, after watching a few videos I asked the question to the supplier. I am glad I did. Cheers for watching 👍
Unless you're operating it in Arctic temperature's it seems like it would be a must! How else would it cool itself?
These excavators are so light they can be quite frustrating to operate. Weight and stability are a good basis for pulling the digger bucket through tough compacted ground. Ive got a 301.7d cat digger and being 1.8 ton its a marked difference when you have to use something as small as this little thing
I have to transport it and have a 1.3t trailer so I had no choice but to go small. Budget did not stretch to a new trailer as well. ☹️
Still beats a shovel 🤣
Yes i use 3/4 ton machines on tight access jobs. Never loose the shovel technique though. Its a dying art

The seat belt is there to keep you from jumping off the equipment in a rollover and crushing you.
Not for a high speed collision obviously.
I am awaiting the postman - I have been convinced. In my newly received user manual it shows the seatbelt, but i net that was another unknown option.

I have one as well , big thing is to keep the tracks always very tight , you do this with your grease gun, they will slacken as you drive and turn, the cover on the side of the track is your grease point .
I will check mine again. Hope you are finding yours works well. Big test for mine with the ground works of our new build coming soon
I fully agree. It's easy to throw off a track by skewing when one edge of the track is up on a small rock or bump/sideways slope. Totally worth saving your tracks by getting down off the digger to kick rocks off to the side if you can't avoid them. Just be careful to avoid steering on them, not a problem if you proceed directly ahead. You'll understand when you've had to get the tracks back on a few times 🤣 keep them tight! The instructions say to leave a bit of sag. Wrong!
Great little machine don’t be disheartened by folks saying it’s crap and you won’t get parts etc remember us brits can fix anything with a welder a vice and a bloody big hammer ,theres always someone out there that can and will fix it good luck relax and enjoy 👍👨🏻🏭🇬🇧
Cheers Paul - Exactly - ex RN artificier, I should be able to fix anything or give it good bodge for sure 😂
Even the best of mechanics must have a BIG hammer
LMFAO yes Lucas is great example.
, British Engineers lacked practical engineering skill and often designed crap that couldn't be made economically...so the British class system devalued the "working class" practical engineering skill learned during an apprenticeship. This led to the demise of British Engineering, and still continues in what is left of British engineering to this day
I agree, you have to know how to fix stuff, I remember all those land rovers I saw in Africa in the mid 90s while traveling there.
love to see you review this a couple of years from now
It is going well after 4 months - my project is a long one so it will be showing up regularly over time.
so excited as you were unboxing the big toy!
Thank you - it is working really well
Those Koop engines are manufactured for and sold under the Hyundai brand. A name you can definitely rely on.
It seems well made and just sounds noisy as it is so small. Thanks for watching and commenting. 👍
Need to idle it higher when operating the hydraulics. Using it at such a low RPM is very hard on the pumps.
Quite often the instructions say for "x" number of hrs run motor at 1/2 throttle,... or similar instructions. For breaking in purposes. Blaty bla bla...
3/4 throttle after warm-up that's why u use the atf or two stroke extra lube in fuel
Thanks Chris , that was a big double stump🥰🍺🇬🇧👌
That's a cute lil digger :)
Great informative video. Don't listen to all the negativity in the comments. I bought one of these recently also down here in New Zealand however through an agent that imports them here not directly off Alibaba. They offer an 18 month warranty which I thought was quite reasonable. I bought this to help me develop my section, remove an old house off it and finishing landscaping. By the time I weighed up the cost of renting an equivalent unit and the hours I would need it for it just made sense to purchase one. The way I see it if I get all my work done with it and am able to sell it on in a couple of years for even half or less than what I paid then it will have well and truly paid for itself
I have thick skin and as most of our products in the shops come from China I do not have a problem with it at all. I asked a lot of people before making the purchase and they said the quality was good. I was happier than I thought. Thanks for the encouragement.
pay low price but demand high low quality. i bet all american waiting for american made products with low price and high quality, but none exists, then they complain greedy companies, true.
perhaps those who complain, form a company and make cheap products with high quality?
Heya Dan,
Did you get the same make and model? Would love to know how the machines preforming down-under =)
Hey, could you tell me the name of the company you used. I'm in NZ as well. Was going to go direct through Alibaba, but happy paying a middle man to save some stress and get some support. Cheers
A great bit of kit! I think you would get more use from a top, keep cool from the sun, dry from the rain, and a place to hang your stereo speakers. The roll bar may on the off chance save your life.....but come on how often will you tip over? I love it!
I strongly approve of the protection bars and of the sunroof, cause safety goes first.
O you made my day when you said the plywood's probably more expensive than a mini digger is
Well done!!!
It is a great little machine - working great still.
Hahaha 'guvNORRRRRR!!!!! I instinctively guessed that you were an operator right away and loved when you first "touched" the controls to certify Cat vs John Deere.
Cat won. LOL
I agree that the auger option outweighs all else on this mini due to its tiny width vs light horsepower in the trenching mode.
We Yanks call it the ROPS (roll over protective structure)-again a master MASTER notification on your part.
I'm impressed with the wet kit (auger et el) and the low end torque required for the blade function.
I predict pure success with this machine 'mate!
Cheers!
Word of advice/caution don’t push heavy objects(especially and even more so when doing it overhead like a tree trunk or heavy demolition)with that bucket/boom more than likely you’ll bend those cylinder’s/rods
