      This is a tough one.
      For special occasions and a treat TGI Friday's is a favourite of mine. Always tastes amazing. Though I would have complained at a 45mins wait and expected a freebie or discount for it.
      For value for money and more casual dining Wetherspoon's takes it 😊. Good old Wetherspoon's.

      If your idea of a special occasion is TGI Fridays then you must have pretty low expectations. Not having a go, just saying.
      There are lots of independent burger joints much better than that.

    Hi there, instead of DIPPING the burger into the glaze, it may be easier for you to POUR the glaze into the burger - just take the top bun off and pick up the container holding the glaze and pour the glaze onto the burger and bacon. I am sure if you asked at JD Wetherspoons, you could have added a slice of Cheddar Cheese to the burger.
    Kind regards, Peter Skuce. St Albans. Hertfordshire.

    No, you weren't overreacting. I've not waited 45 mins for Michelin star meals, let alone a mundane looking burger from a chain which appeared empty. Also £20 is obscene, glad you factored the price into your ranking.

    • @PotatoPirate123
      @PotatoPirate123 Před 11 měsíci +1

      I think they’re relying on people thinking it’s higher quality because it’s snazzy and more expensive. A lot of chains have done this over the years, and many have eventually gone bust. TGI somehow seem to hang on, and as I’ve said in a previous comment, if you look at their comprehensive menu and the quality of the food when it actually comes out, I wouldn’t be in the least bit surprised if they cook their food in an almost identical way to Wetherspoon - for example there’s no way they’re cooking their chicken wings and potato skins from scratch. If it’s all just frozen stuff thrown in the microwave or fryer then you’re trusting that the quality is better - and for me at least it didn’t show in the taste at all.

  • @stevencoadoriginal
    @stevencoadoriginal Před 11 měsíci +31

    Wetherspoons may microwave some of the food, but at least it’s reasonably priced and you get it fairly quickly. Having to wait over 45mins for your food and at double the price is ridiculous.

    • @BrendonCarr
      @BrendonCarr Před 4 měsíci

      Wetherspoons definitely reheats a previously-cooked patty in the microwave. They're not cooked on site, but rather are delivered pre-cooked by a Wetherspoons factory. Even though this would infuriate a real chef or a gourmet, who demand that a "real restaurant" cook every burger to order with fresh beef mince delivered daily, the factory method ensures consistency and also has a health benefit - every single burger is cooked past the point where a large chain like Wetherspoons, with its deep pockets, could inadvertently give its customer an e. coli infection.

    I was both pleased & pleasantly surprised watching this vlog.
    I can't get out so watching your vlogs remind me what bar food, restaurants, curry houses - the usual serve up, it's quality & portion control etc.
    My mam likes burger if she is at a pub for lunch.
    No frills & fancy toppings, pattie, bun, salad, not even bothered by cheese.
    When I used to get out & head for something to eat, if it's with my folks, mam always asks for Wetherspoon's, never suggests it - she means Wethers or nowhere.
    She rates their burgers - looks forward & always enjoy.
    Myself & sisters have tried to get her somewhere else, I am informed when she's been persuaded to have a burger at another venue - it's disappointment all round - now they give in to her.
    When I've asked what specific does she enjoy about it - near enough word for word, either she quoted you or you quoted her!
    I hate the man behind Wetherspoon's - but give him is due affordable not bad quality food to the mass of customers, reasonably priced is a good thing.
    In comparison with TGI's I thought obviously it's a forgone conclusion, no competition.
    Having to wait as long as you did needed more than a polite 'food is on the way' - you should have been offered a free side, pudding or something off to show a MISTAKE had been made & they can rectify it with a discount or something.
    The chips weren't up to much & the burger disappointing. But; I thought fancy chef cooking, TGI sauce plus their usual bells & whistles - it was going to be the one.
    Well, I was pleased as punch hearing your recommendation.
    Food for thought so they say.
    As a quick go to & if I was never trusting of a menu, I always went for the Lasagna or the Chilli con Carne meat or the Veggie one on both.
    You have great content & ideas breakfasts was my fave series you did.
    I quite fancy watching lasagna vs lasagna or chilli vs chilli in the high street pubs.
    I look out for your vlogs & really enjoy.
    Until soon.

    Your wetherspoons burger was prepared the exact same way as TGIs 😅 I used to work there! Definitely not worth double the price at TGIs. Also the only things spoons really microwaves is the currys, jackets, plain chicken and some pub classics like lamb shank. All the food is frozen food but almost every chain does the same! Then all either grilled or fried!

    Having been unimpressed with the extortionate prices (compared to nearby/better places), we eventually just walked out after waiting 45 minutes for a waitress to even ask us for any drinks, having asked for some water for the kids and a few beers waited a further 25 minutes without anybody turning up. Over an hour without even a tap water arriving and nobody asking for our food order.
    Loads of young staff just standing around chatting.

      I wouldn’t be in the least bit surprised if they don’t have the same kitchen processes as Wetherspoon, and I’m not sure if the quality is even all that much better. My burger patty itself at TGI didn’t taste any ‘fresher’ than the Wetherspoon one I had last night. The only thing the TGI one did have was a slightly burnt bun 🤣
      The Wetherspoon burger isn’t only cheaper, but you’re also getting a drink with it, of a value around £5. A drink and a burger at TGI can easily be double the price.

We here in Pittsburgh in the states need a Weatherspoons. Same for all the other restrauntes you like that you have reviewed. A lot of establishments are suffering staffing problems post pandemic. You should officially endorse your favorite selections too. Godspeed.

    I would go with Weatherspoons, not only because that did look like a good burger, but that wait time for a burger at TGIF? Come on. After 45 minutes, for a burger, the taste had best not be "delicious" but "orgasmic". Hell, my home made burgers, hand pressed, with seasoning and everything, doesn't take that long and I move at the same pace as your average glacier.

    The Wetherspoon burger I had with him was no worse than the one I spent nearly twice as much on at TGI’s a few weeks before. Very disappointed in TGI as it seemed to be all style and price and no real quality to back it up. Interested to see what the conclusion here is!!

    I’ve never been in a TGI Friday place, but doubt if I’ll bother now if one is nearby. Obviously I’ve had better & generally more expensive burgers than are available in Wetherspoons, but for the price food in their outlets is generally of a decent standard & the few times I’ve had burgers there they’ve been perfectly acceptable. I’d have walked out of the other place after 20/25 minutes probably, unless there were definite signs of movement & someone came to explain the delay, without me having to make a fuss.

    • @BillCameronWC
      @BillCameronWC Před 11 měsíci

      @@uknowmyname007 It’s generally highly unusual to be asked to pay before food/drinks are actually served, although when you order at the table in Wetherspoons for example using their very effective online app, you do pay in advance, but I’ve hardly ever waited more than 5-7 minutes for any drinks and any food to be brought to you table, certainly after 10 minutes I would be going to the bar to ask why there is a delay, but that never happened to me in the last 15/20 years 😉. I certainly would not be hanging around for more than 30 minutes without querying forcibly what was happening.

    The TGI burger bun didn't look nice. At that price point I would expect a Brioche bun.

    if they did not tell you at ordering that it would take 45 min, then it is not acceptable, since people getting there order before you, who came in after you so your order was not done in order.
    I think the Wetherspoons has to win. even though they have once again increased prices, which is becoming a regular increase after a few weeks it seems.
    Now a hot drink is now £1.50. these constant price increase are becoming off putting to go there.
