- Curry, but especially chicken tikka masala is one of the most popular meals in the UK along with fish and chips and a full english breakfast, but what is the difference between a cheap Wetherspoons version and an expensive curry house version? Well in this video I head inside 2 of the biggest UK restaurant chains Wetherspoons and Indian Tiffin Room to try out their chicken tikka masalas to see who is best!

Which curry did you prefer?
Comment Below 😀
Something from the slightly more expensive Chefs or House specials menu at curry house
@@spendover Something hotter like a Naga or Chilli Masala
curry house one
The Indian Tiffin room gets my vote. It looks so authentic and fresh.
✌🏻🧔🏻✌🏻
I'd've had the Masala Dosa.
Wetherspoons have saved some fantastic old buildings
Who was on the picture above your head in Wetherspoons? Dickie Bird & ? Looked like a young Fred Truman
They saved the old post office in my town, then named it the Lion after a bus model our town used to make
@@Dan23_7 I think they are a fantastic company. I booked my parents into one of their hotels they really looked after them
Agreed @thorpeman
Its true, this is a great building!
We would go with the weatherspoons just purely because of the price. £26 for one meal is an awful lot.
£26 is 2.8 times more than the Wetherspoons version. which did come with other things and was still a good meal.
the question may be were else can you get a curry and drink for the price of wetherspoons comparing vs any place which is more than double does mean the more expensive place should be better but may people watch would pick the cheaper place
Stupid prices in Leeds City center. Spoons at least gives great value
£26 is an awful lot for a meal 😂😂😂😂😂😂. Where do you live ??? VENEZUELA !!!! You should stay home and have a Bombay bad boy pot noodle 😂😂😂😂
@@badgersalesman5595 we live on the south coast of England and yes £26 is a lot of money for one meal for one person.
There's a bit of mocking in the comments section about £26 being a lot to spend on a meal
If you're reasonably well off then perhaps it isn't but if you're living amidst a cost of living crisis then it most certainly is.
I really enjoyed this video. The commentary is perfect. Both meals looked moreish 🥘😋
Rarely do I eat out but am tempted to try a Wetherspoons curry 😊
Wetherspoons all the way. Price alone these days makes such a difference. Thanks xx
The price at Wetherspoons is a great selling point
Love this channel! Nice and unrushed delivery without trying to cram in as many words per second as possible which seems to be the (unwelcome) trend. Great videography too! Thanks for the content!
Thanks 😀
Great - me and my partner can't go out for a meal now without quoting your regular turns of phrase, slowly rotating our food on our forks and doing a satisfied face react after every bite.. thanks for this 😅
Hahaha hope you're doing some combo bite too 😀
@@everydayimeating3407 always 😂😁👌
Brilliant review I have been watching your reviews for a long time Great stuff keep up the good work .
Thanks 😀 Much appreciated!
Love your vids…good bit of fun. Keep up the good work😀👍🇬🇧
Thanks 😀
Love these videos!! Used to work at Spoons and even though the curries are pre made, they're really tasty! Can't beat a proper curry house curry though, or even home made :) great vid, food looked delicious!!
The curry at spoons was a lot better than I thought it would be
@@everydayimeating3407 would love to see you compare McDonald's and Burger King items (e.g. Burgers, chicken, fries and desserts) to see which ones you think are better 👍
The wetherspoons would win on price but it did look really nice too expensive the other one
Curry house x 3 times more Expensive - then Weatherspoons - no brainer
Weatherspoons Wins 🏆
The pub in Leeds used too be part off the Leeds girls grammar school ie early years learning. I've visited it many times as I live less than 2 miles away thanx gjk xx
Its a great building
That wetherspoons building was amazing. I always feel disappointed with pub chain curry, it always lacks that je ne sais quoi that gives curry house dishes that special flavour. Having said that, if it was lunch time, I'd go for the Spoon's curry based on cost alone.
Totally agree with this!
It’s ger ner say quarrr
Surprisingly i would have to give it to Wetherspoons - phenomenal value compared to the Indian restaurant,
It is good value at Wetherspoons, and when I saw the curry, I was impressed at what you get for the price
The Wetherspoon curry also comes with a alcoholic drink for that price which you didn't mention in the video. I would prefer Spoons any day for the price.
Good video I was supprised how good the spoons one looked I would def try that
It was surprisingly better than I thought it was going to be
美味しそう、の表現にapetitingを使う上品な英語が素敵です
食べ方のマナーも好き😊✨
Weatherspoons curry's are ready meals. Glad to see they upgraded from aldis own. Looked good. The other place not having poppadoms is Purley sales tactics 80p ish depending on where u r or the upsell being £4 plus. Haha
Love your videos! Would like to see you review a roast dinner at some point.
I have been thinking about that 😋
Weatherspoons for value for money. I do like Weatherspoons…. Smithy
Its probably one of the best value places
It's like most things in life these days mate... You can go to an upscale Restaurant and have a pretentious £50 serving of Fish & Chips with a few stacked (Jenga Style) triple cooked Chips... With the best and thickest cut of Cod Loin dipped in their own specially made Beer Batter... And have it served with Crushed Peas... Lemon Wedges... Home Made Tartare Sauce... And topped with a small amount of garnish... But because you're sat in a upscale Restaurant being served by their waiting staff... You could be forgiven for thinking that you've had a better meal... Just because of the overall experience... Compared to visiting your local Fish & Chip shop and getting your regular Fish & Chips with Mushy Peas and paying between £10 - £12... The Wetherspoons Curry at under £10 with a drink included... Is fantastic value for money... Even if a couple of the Chicken pieces were a little on the dry side... Plus the portion of Pilau Rice was smaller than that of the Curry House Rice portion... But would i pay literally three times the price for the Curry House Chicken Tikka Masala Curry... As apposed to the Wetherspoons Chicken Tikka Masala Curry?... No way mate!. 👌
Love the Indian tiffin room. Been there a few times
Hello EIE.
What two great curries. For me, it had to be the curry house. I know it was more expensive but you get what you pay for. You had all the trimmings which looked really tasty. Weatherspoon just looked lacking to me. Thank you so much for making the vlogs. See you soon 😊
Thanks 😀 Glad you enjoy them
Good to see you back Ryan. Keep that head net on those mosquitos look mean.
Cumin lounge South Milford near Leeds. The lamb is to die for
I might have to go check it out
Spoons just for the beer alone
Great value for under a tenner ✌️👍
Expensive compared to the Wetherspoon meal but I would go with your choice, it looked really delicious. Well done.
The curry house was the better meal from the experience to the taste
Wouldnt pay £26 for a curry so its got to be wetherspoons x
Its quite a bit for one meal
For sheer authenticity you can't beat a curry house or home-made, but 'Spoon's is ok for a re-heated pre-prepped offering which is on a par with a decent supermarket ready meal.
The 'Spoons curry actually looks better than it was before the pandemic (I went to curry club loads around late 2019/early 2020) - back then they just had bottles of chutney which you could never find so the individual portion is a good touch. Just wish they still did the Lamb Rogan Josh! But I do like the way they give you the poppadums with the main meal rather than as a starter which they do at a normal curry house (well I do anyway).
The poppadoms were great 😋
I didn't even know they had chutney available! So I always went without!
I would go for the Wetherspoon's one every time, which I have done many times. For under a tenner with a pint of beer which would cost over £3 on its own, it's a real bargain. The curries are excellent as are the rice, poppadoms and naan bread, and I have never noticed any toughness in the meat. I'm sure the curry house ones are a step up in authenticity and quality, but is it really worth more than double? No doubt with a pint of beer it would have been over £30.
It is quite a lot at the curry house, but the whole meal does taste better, so probably one for a special occasion
Some say you get what you pay for.... So let's go with that! Wetherspoons offer good meals at a pretty ok price, I've been to Indian restaurants recently and they now cost around £30 a meal in my area with a beer, however in Nottingham I paid much more for less.. So if you're on a budget I'd head over to Wetherspoons, the quality won't match a decent Indian obviously, so we have to reflect that in the price.
Great video. Usually you get what you pay for and for quality you pay more. I like Weatherspoon but they're inconsistent. E.G. I've had the Katsu Chicken curry three times but there's never been coriander nor chillies as stated on the menu.
Verdict: Weatherspoon for day to day meals but for better food or special occasions, Curry House every time.
I agree, Wetherspoons day to day but for a nice special meal, the curry house
We English are very lucky to have such choices. Both Wetherspoons and curry houses on most main streets. Spoiled for choice .
For me its either a nan or rice but not both. Having said that the portion of rice at Wetherspoons looks manageable. Both curries looked really good but we have to rely on you for the taste factor. I did note you were dissapointed with some of the chicken at Wetherspoons.
Massive W for Spoon's there like
The second curry looked the best to me although it was more expensive. I agree with your point about some of the Wetherspoons chicken being tough. I have had that happen a few times. It’s a shame because it is a very tasty curry.
If the chicken wasn't a bit tough, it would ave been spot on
That does vary depending on the Wetherspoons you go to, some good some not so good.
You cannot beat Spoons on price and quality. You know what your getting.
It is great value
I’m speechless regarding the difference in price. Forget it!
You can't really compare what you get. They are very different cuisines.
@@capitalb5889 if you can’t really compare them what’s the point of the channel? I’m clearly missing something. But yes I sort of half get it. Something costing nearly 3 times as much as the rival will have the advantage! Wow…
Spoons used to do the "Flaming dragon" on a curry night, decent heat and taste. Never been back for a curry since they dropped It. The others on the menu are a bit weak.
I cook Indian food for a living. I learned to cook in India and offer the real deal back here in the UK via my Indian deli. I'm also a Wetherspoons fan. I often have to feed myself and my two boys when we're out at the weekend and you just can't beat their prices and selection. But I've never tried their curries as they'll never come even close to the real thing or what I produce myself. So I'd go with the curry house meal, I'd rather spend a bit more and get something authentic. Saying that I am intrigued by the Wetherspoons curry, I tried their steak meal after your review and was very impressed, so maybe I will one day I will try a curry
Its great for the price, but yes, its never gonna compete with and authentic curry house
YUM YUM ..LOOKS TOP SHELF..
It was 😋
Curry house for sure
But, wetherspoons was good for under £10 pounds eh.
A good curry here in Perth, Western Australia would be more expensive.
Love watching your vlogs Brilliant 🙏🏼🌻🦘🌻🦘
If u like cheap frozen curries, off 2 spoons, simple as that
Wetherspoon do a good curry when your having a pint but you cant beat a curry house curries.
I agree, its great value at spoons and good food, but if you want a great tasting authentic ones, its got to be the curry house
wetherspoons is all microwave made including the the nann and poperdoms , that said they taste lovely and are very fillling and with a drink included excellent value for money
I was really impressed with the value
b4 i watch this i know Wetherspoons curry's are quite nice but not as good as a curry houses lets see if I'm correct.
There was just a bit more depth of flavour from the curry house and the naan bread seemed fresher too 😋
Not here to comment on the curry, but to say that Wetherspoons looks great. One good thing about the chain is it really looks after some very old buildings that are full of character and would otherwise likely have been pulled down.
I think its true for this one I visited
So a 26 quid meal from a specialist is better than a 9 quid meal from a Wetherspoons?! Not really a surprise. Was it really worth almost three times the price? I guess, as an economist would say, diminishing marginal returns would have set in way before reaching the 26 quid mark. If Wetherspoons had been bad, then fair enough, but it wasn’t so I’d be happier to go out to Wetherspoons for three nights rather than the curry house for one night followed by bread and jam at home for the next two nights.
"curries are made to bespoke Wetherspoon recipes and are delivered frozen and then heated in the microwave" As you would expect I guess - explains the huge menu. You can't beat a curry cooked from a family recipe, from scratch in a proper Indian restaurant. 😁
Yeah spoons are microwave meals in some places! Your local curry house can vary from very good to very poor!
'From Scratch'...fraid not. The sauce (masala) will have been prepared previously in large amounts. Then the specific spices and meat etc will have been added per order.
The curry from the curry house did have better flavour and the naan tasted fresh too
Spoons are NOT frozen!!, just chilled!!
😅
Hiya EIE. The curry house looked really good authentic perhaps for a treat or special occasion but price wise wetherspoons didn't disappoint on value or taste? Great vid again! Looked like u enjoyed your food!
Wetherspoons was great value and tasted good but the curry house tasted better for sure 😀
You get what you pay for and the Tiffin Restaurant definitely was more appealing with novel items I'd like to try. 😊
The sev puri starter was good, first time I've had it 😀
No brainer...budget 10,97 obviously go WS...or if you want to spend 23 quid on a curry then go to the curry house...it's WS for me.
I prefer the Wetherspoon curry. The pub chain hungry horse do special big curries on a Wednesday and there lovley. You should try them
I'll have a look into them
Is that an old cinema? Most old ones are art deco. And I adore art deco ❤. Great channel btw
I was told it was an old grammar school and the big hall was the theatre room
Considering weatherspoon employment is large, and overheads high , support them, (first ) before they disappear, value for money, and good location's, great English pub,
Wetherspoons Mon.-Friday 14.00-1700 the food is cheaper and curry club on Thursday.
Reheated ready meal curry versus a freshly prepared takeaway curry. No contest!
There's a restaurant chain in the US, in Oregon, called McMenamins that has the same format. They buy old buildings with character and after renovating they open a totally mediocre restaurant. Their business model has always been, "If its cool on the outside and has interesting decor on the inside you won't care that the food and drink is crap! It seems to have worked!
Oh my days, what the hell has happened to curry prices?
I've only been to Leeds omve in recent years, amd i had dinner in the Tiffin rooms. It was excellent.
But you've gone to the wrong restaurant for chicken korma and poppadoms.
If I was out for a lunch or breakfast I would pick spoons everyday. However if I was taking someone out for a birthday or an occasion I would pick something else
I think I would agree with that
Think I'd go for the spooners
Its a good choice 😀
The 3 small plates is now £15.32 at my spoons, it's insane! used to be £9.99!!
£14.27 at Garforth spoons. Best pizza around and the chicken wings are bang on
Everything is getting more expensive these days
I cook curries at home from scratch… and I quite like Witherspoons curry
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🇬🇧
Its a great deal
From the video, I’d say the best curry was from Tiffin and best accompaniments were from Wetherspoons. I’m starving now!!
They both had their good points 😀
@@everydayimeating3407 They both looked wonderful!
what make is your jacket
It was from river Island
Try this and that rice and 3 in soap street manchester in the northern quarter
I'll have to look them up
@everydayimeating3407 it's nothing fancy just consistent food
That should read good food
My local Wetherspoons used to do a Curry Club deal on Thursdays when the meal was discounted, so maybe you could've got it cheaper still. No way would I pay £26 for a single meal with soft drink...
You should have gone yo Wetherspoons in Bradford & compared it to a Bradford curry house!
Nowt wrong with this vlog - just know Bradford as doing amazing curries & cheaper than the Indian restaurant featured.
Another great vlog!
I might have to head there in the future
Weatherspoon curry is like supermarket curry heated up in a microwave, but there beer prices are good so we will put up with it
Why all the whingey comments about comparing cheap spoons food with a proper curry house meal? There's no clickbait deception in the title of the video. Its exactly what it says. So, if you think its futile to compare pub curry with curry house curry, dont watch it.
I'm so glad that the Indian restaurant had it's two levels one above the other. Otherwise it would have really messed with my head 🤯
WAS THE TEA ANY GOOD..
I like both restaurants and food so it’s hard to decide, but I think 🤔 it’s what you can afford!
Wetherspoons most of the time, and the curry house for special occasions
I do love a curry, especially a nice hot one.... Indian is my all time favourite food... Great video mate 😊😊
Not sure if I can handle a really hot curry lol don't think my spice tolerance is as high as yours lol
@@everydayimeating3407 my spice tolerance wasn't that great. It's only the last 3 years where I have been eating really spicy food lol...😊
I think for me it's more a question of what you can afford the Wetherspoons curry is cheap and cheerful and good for a Lunch, i've never been to the second one, but it looks like the sort of place that overcharges for the food because of the fancy decor, i think i would go.somewhere middle ground somewhere with good food but small, with slightly dated decor.
Not watched yet, but I preferred the curry house meal, there's no way a Wetherspoon curry will beat it lol. I've had a few spoon's curries, they're ok for the price and drink included etc, but a bit bland for a curry. If you upgrade to large, their onion bhajis and samosas are actually nice. Never heard of a curry house which doesn't do poppadoms, bizarre! Definitely do more Indian reviews.
I though they all did poppadoms so I was surprised too
That was a dealbreaker for me.
I've never had a curry from spoons, it actually looks really good. The tiffin place didn't have poppadoms wtf 😑 but I'd say curry at the tiffin wins looks more authentic and delicious 😋
The curry from spoons really impressed me, it was better than I expected
The second place looked better, but phew... that was not a cheap curry. The first place had a great outside look to it... like a prosperous small town bank here in the US. Both places looked great, but I'd probably put the Curry House in the "Eating a Special Meal" category.
I would agree with that, it would be a great special meal
The restaurant curry should always be better.
Unfortunately its over 2.5 times has much.
Just subbed hope to see you do more curry videos 👍
Weatherspoons curry is a massive meal and far better value every time. I always spread the mango chutney on the bread to eat with the curry and its so filling😮
cant really comment on curry, but i think the second one looked better
It was the better tasting meal for sure
I'm surprised you didnt mention the "nice oily fried taste" of the papadoms😂❤
Wetherspoons curries are essentially ready meals heated up for you.
Was the curry in the Weatherspoons spicy hot enough ?
It wasn't too spicy, only a little bit. The one from the curry house was more spicy
The curry house is always going to be better but for a tenner including a pint you can’t go wrong with a spoons ruby
Its a great deal
White bricks?
£26?!!! I can get 4 days worth of food shopping in Lidl for that! It did look nice though. But defo not worth that price.
Nice 🙂🙂👍👍🙂👍👍👍👍👍👍
when you compare £9.57 vs £26.95 you are looking at almost 2.8 Times more expensive.
for that price difference then a dedicated curry house better taste better
It looked nice but I could not justify spending that much more on going to the curry house.
especially for just one person.
The curry house is a bit expensive, I don't think I would go all the time
It's like comparing lunch and in the work canteen to going to a good restaurant.
And as the restaurant was South Indian and Whethespoons does a microwave version of North Indian, is it a fair comparison?
For value Wetherspoons all day long.I've eaten there about 6 times never had a bad meal from steak to fish it's all been really good.£26 for that i think it's a complete rip off.I'm dumb but i'm not that dumb.
Has anyone here worked in a Weatherspoons? How much of it is just heated up like? I don't understand how they can have such a huge menu, in a huge venue, and manage
They way I see it some it is probably cooked off-site and heated up, while other stuff is obviously cooked on-site,
@@Bungle2010 makes sense. They seem to do it well though seeing as it's fairly popular. I've never actually been though we don't have one in my county
Wetherspoons for me 😊
Old building but those carpets.
Weather spoons curry is a microwave meal
What you expect for a tenner which includes a pint not all if us can afford £27 for a curry
@@stuartpace6111 I dontr expect anything else but you can't compare it to a proper curry it's no where near
@@bumfluffmcregor3730 yes I agree but I wonder what the curry houses curry's will be like if they cut costs down to less than £10
I’ve tried various pub & supermarket curries and they’ve all been disappointing.
They all seem to taste the same somehow?
Have a go at making your own, there’s some great channels on YT that show authentic and BIR style curries.
The spoons in Harrogate is the.nicest I’ve been in, it’s really grand and was the old Winter Gardens.
I might have to go check it out
Never thought I would say this, but the weatherspoons looks better, more authentic. I mean the rice on the wetherspoons one looks more professional. I think you got that one wrong.
I hate to say it but that Spoon's curry looked better - it had oil floating on the surface.
It was a good curry, a lot better than I was expecting it to be
The Tiffin had a large menu. Who's to say their meals aren't frozen. Most restaurants are now but they all had to be cooked to start with. Can't really compare as the prices were so different
Rather than using frozen, I think you'll find Indian restaurants use a base sauce and make various curries from that. Latifs inspired goes into more detail on how restaurants do the different curries.
going for weatherspoons two of us could have dined for less than the curry house
Its great value there, thats one of the big factors
