    • @anonymousone9699
      @anonymousone9699 Před 9 měsíci +4

      You know what, yessss! Since I was a teenager, I experienced a horrible home life, not because of abuse, or deprivation of anything for me as a child, but because the dynamics in our home were off between my parents. They clearly disliked each other, and the longer they stayed together, the less respect and tolerance they had for each other. One would literally have to physically remove themselves from the same room if the other entered. They were reserved and respectful in front of us and the world, but man, they couldn’t fool us. As soon as the last kid went to college, literally like 2-3 months before my little brother left for college, they announced their divorce. My siblings and I were so relieved. It got to a bad point where I worried for physical harm if one finally broke or something. The tension was always terrible.
      That is to say, divorce is a freaking blessing I wish on no one, but hope for those who need it. Marriage isn’t just the paper, burn it down if the two parties no longer honour that contract. The sooner, the better in my opinion. My parents are a really good team separated than they were together. They could have had a much much happier life had they stopped worrying about the kids and just went their separate ways earlier. They could have a better relationship today had they not stayed too long and started hating each other.
      I’d go as far as to say, eff the kids, a marriage is between 2 people and 2 people only. If they no longer like each other, that’s all the consideration they need to take. Finances, kids, the community can be figured out if the divorcing parties separated amicably. They will be more loving in how they organize coparenting and children’s needs. I’m telling you, do not drag out a failed marriage for the sake of anyone else! As a child of a bad divorce, I’d rather have grown up with happily divorced parents than, stuck and bitter and exhausted parents. It was not a family anyway.

Unlike a divorce, a legal separation doesn't break the bonds of marriage. If you are separated and want to get back together with your wife, you are not obliged to remarry her, whereas if you divorce your wife and want to get back with her, you must remarry her.

    I just want to put this out there. Getting a divorce is not always extremely difficult on the children. It may have been that for Sunny and Alyssa, but not for me. And I want to say this because with them stating how traumatic it was for them as children, there are people out there that are considering a divorce that have children involved and may change their mind because of what these two ladies said. I myself am a product of divorce. My parents divorced when I was the age of 12. To be honest, I was actually pretty happy that they divorced. No matter how much they tried to hide it, having arguments sometimes, and in some cases there was some instances of physical altercations, it was not an environment that I felt comfortable living in. I did act out ridiculously during my teen years, but it wasn’t because my parents got divorced. It was because unbeknownst to me not only did my father divorce my mom, he also seemed to divorce being a father to me and my brother 😢. I was actually acting up to get his attention and see if he would show up and that ended up never being the case unfortunately. He didn’t care to also contribute anything towards the raising of my brother and I and just left my mom high and dry. Had my father been present and meet his financial responsibilities and
    co-parent with my mom, then divorce wouldn’t have been such an issue to deal with. I say all this to say, that by staying in an marriage for the sake of the children you’re showing your children how to stay in unhealthy relationships of any kind. As long as both parents can be on the same page about raising their children and being present in every way possible then, divorce is not such a traumatic experience. Going through something like that as child honestly can prepare you well for so much that life will throw at you. Sometimes you can definitely be better for it with going through that experience. Just my opinion 🤷🏾‍♀️.

    • @ebbyc1817

      it's not that simple. your parents are always your parents psychologically, whatever choices they make. So for example, your father abandoning you and his responsibilities as a father, could lead you to see men who are non-committal or relative dismissive as a viable option for partnership, in a way that someone who had an available father would not, because your father is your first model, of a partner. The fact that they were divorced doesn't change anything, psychologically. You'll still be unconsciously attracted to men who are like your father. Consciously, you might make a different choice.

    • @shedskin01
      @shedskin01 Před 9 měsíci +3

      I agree too. Also child of divorce here, and the most traumatic experience about it was all the fights. In fact, one of the worst fights was on an attempt to get back together. Sure, as you said, both parents have to be committed to make things peaceful but it’s hard for them when they have hurt each other. And if one of them has existential problems of their own, then it’s even harder. But in the long run, it’s still better in that case for them to split. Or it could be worse.

    Approximately 20-40% of divorces are caused by infidelity. There may be legitimate reasons for some divorces like the above but we need to tackle the causes instead of the symptoms. Society is now individualistic and not about compromise, sacrifice or community.

  • @annav2959
    @annav2959 Před 9 měsíci +3

    I beleieve you have to have a certain level of experience, self-awareness, age, and understanding to enter into a marriage with the mindset to enter without divorce as an option. I had been told since I was a kid that "If you are having sex, you need to be married." I was married TWICE by 20 with that thinking....to people who I didn't even know or even like. Ugh! It was awful. I don't count the first one really because it was like a few months. The second marriage at 20 though was a miserable 7 years. Let's just say my teenage years and 20's sucked. Only thing good about them were my 3 precious kids. Now, in my 30's I have completed grad school, work as a clinical mental health counselor, have my own peaceful home for my teenagers, and living the best, most peaceful life I could have ever imagined for myself. My kids are thriving and well. I have been in thr healthiest most loving relationship for the past 5 years. I'm truly grateful. ❤
