For a car from 2008 these look so far ahead of there time! Such attractive cars

  • @eljefeamericano4308

I own an '09 A5 S-Line, which means it looks like this, but with body-colored mirrors, and has an improved suspension over the standard A5. This was from when they still put the 3.2 V6 in them, and mine has a six-speed manual. It's not as fast as the S5, obviously, but I think I can safely say a few things about these cars in general.
First, none of them are really meant to be 0-60mph, or 0-100kph, champions. That just isn't the point of these cars. What they do VERY well is drive at high speeds once you get there. It's incredible how composed these cars are at speeds that definitely nobody is reaching except on race tracks...... But, really... you're not asking much of an Audi to cruise at 110mph.
Another thing? The interior really is so damn nice. This is my second Audi. After my first, I thought I could stand to not own another. But they are built so nicely it's really hard to not have one once you have. The tech is old, sure, but it feels so good to sit in this car. All of the controls are in good locations, and mine, at least, feels damn near like it's new with almost 175,000 miles on it.
Finally, the looks... This review was right. These are beautiful cars. I have people comment on mine all the time, while they don't look twice at my 2023 Subaru. The Subaru is worh more, has better technology, and really is a plenty nice vehicle on its own. But these Audi coupes are rolling artwork, and people love them. I prefer the B8/B8.5 models over the newer ones, too. I feel like they are more understated, more professional. They don't look like they're trying to get attention, they just get it because they deserve it.
Edit: Since I've seen maintenance concerns mentioned everywhere in the comments, I'm going to say that I spent more on repair bills on my last pickup truck than either my previous A6, or my current A5.

@@popularpages I absolutely agree, neither my RS5 V8 nor my S5 V8 needed more than 10.5 on the autobahn at 130 km/h. Meanwhile my S4 3.0 TFSI needs AT LEAST 13.3L on the autobahn no matter how slow and careful you drive. I can punch the V8 every day and you wont see more than 14L on the Autobahn. I had both better fuel consumption in traffic AND autobahn on the V8s than on the V6 Superchargeds.

The main thing to look out for is the timing chain guides! Despite being an update from the infamous b7 s4 chain guides they still can bring issues and a hefty bill as it's an engine out job. Plenty of people have gone 200k kms+ with no chain issues while others have had them as early as 100k kms. Always make sure it has a good service history and be vigilant of the chain guides. This gen of 8T/B8 S5 is beautiful and I'd love to own one eventually, I currently have a fully optioned 2015 a5 coupe with the ea888.3 4pot and its damn good looking, I've got these exact s5 wheels on it.

@@RossReviewsau Yeah, hey, Ross. I've had mine almost 3 years, so not long. I spent $600 or so putting a new set of mufflers, she sound amazing. I replaced a coil pack myself. New battery. But that's it for maintenance. I've always done mechanical repairs myself, but I'm 62 now, and it's not fun anymore. LOL. She's got 124,000 on the clock, and as far as I can figure she's never had the timing chain replaced. So, I'll have to get that done (Between $6,000 $7,000) Not cheap.
I paid under $18,000 for mine, in mint condition, but I'll be looking for $35,000 when I sell her.
Audi's are just so damn nice to drive, and so much fun, she's going to be tough to part with. Maybe I'll supercharge her and hang on to her. I figure she'll keep going up in price.

The RS5 only feels better when you’re absolutely ripping its neck out to 8500 rpm and the DSG is more crisp and engaging. From memory the S5 has more torque and develops it at lower rpm so it felt better to drive on the road. You have to push the RS5 to get the best out of it.

It's no V8 but I reckon the C350 is a bargain coupe and will match the 2008 S5 for performance and quality. I owned a 2013 C350 and loved it, now I own a 2013 S5 with the supercharged V6 and DSG, the S5 is really a step-up in performance and what it loses in V8 symphony it gains in DSG farts and low down torque, and fuel economy if that's your thing. After driving these its so hard to look at ford's and holdens, the interiors are just horrible, and if I pay 5k for a high maintenance bill then I remember I've saved about 80k on new car cost and get over it.

260kw is respectable for a 4.2L NA. Holden had 6Ls just hitting that mark at the time. I guess for those happy to keep it basically stock its a decent amount of ponies. Biggest downfall with German is the repair bills. Even doing the work yourself it's expensive for parts and Euro import delivery times can be shocking with automotive. Forget about a mechanic as they see everything Euro as a big bag of gold ingots. Decent price to snag one but you will need a healthy wallet to keep it on the road.

for v8 engines, they all develop excess carbon build up. carbon cleaning is a necessary maintenance that most owners dont do which results to sluggish performance and power loss. its also alot of labor hours to carbon clean. so if you arent capable of doing it yourself, expect a $1000 bill just to clean the intake where the carbon resides. i passed on an 09 s5 6mt with 88k. it was in beautiful condition with a great service history. but its 2023 and the bushings had never been replaced nor did it have any mentions of carbon cleaning done. i didnt want to be the guy stuck with that repair bill.

One of the biggest reasons these are a bit cheaper is because of the outlay later on you risk in paying for repairs... almost any job is an engine out situation, including the timing chains which is part-and-parcel of owning an Audi it seems.

This is a bollocks comment from someone who probably never seen one in person.
I have 150k miles on my 6MT. I drive it daily, and hard. The clutch is original. This generation engine does not have the timing chain issues of earlier v8s.
They do require carbon cleaning due to direct injection and owners driving it at low RPMs.
I've been instructed to drive it hard every once and a while to keep it clean which isn't hard to do!

    • @aivarusk218
      @aivarusk218 Před rokem +1

🤦🏻‍♂️ Timing chains weren’t an issue on this generation, that was the older V8s. Also, not everything is an engine out job, many of the common problems they have aren’t even that expensive to rectify

I'll take my 2010 Lexus ISF over that junky over priced money pit of an Audi your driving any day of the week. It will run circles around your car in every way. There is absolutely nothing that the Audi S5 has that is better than the Lexus ISF and I can be rest assured that my Lexus will never leave me stranded somewhere with a massive repair bill like all Audi's eventually will. I was never told by Lexus owners that I should set aside 10k for repairs if I plan to buy a Lexus. That's something that you only hear from people who have owned Audi's and BMW's because those cars were not built to last over 50k miles before you risk having their design flawed engines grenade themselves out with no warning what so ever. I bet the only reason that car your driving only has 49k is because the owner is too scared to drive it everyday for fear of it having catastrophic engine failure now that it's reaching it's 50k failure mark. The only reason he is letting you do a review on it is because he knows that it will help him sell it to some dummy who doesn't know that Audi's like this are going to die a quick death on them 4 months after they buy one. And you would need to have your head examined to purchase a vehicle that only sounds like it performs well but actually doesn't perform well at all. It would be different if it actually performs as well as it sounds but it doesn't and you will be left in the dust by countless other vehicles that do like my Lexus ISF does and my Lexus sounds just as good and you can pick one up for about the same price.as that Audi S5 and probably even less with a little bit more miles if you can even find one that has that low milage on it. They are hard to find with very low miles because people are not scared to drive them because they know their Lexus will have no problem getting to 300k miles while only doing regular oil changes and thats about it. I used to think that I wanted a manual transmission in my Lexus but the 8 speed automatic transmission it comes with was surprisingly quick to shift and I wouldn't change a thing about it. My Lexus bone stock will do 0 to 60 in 4.2 seconds which is a respectable number for a stock V8 compared to that Audi which has a hard time doing it in 6.5 seconds. LOL That car is for suckers who don't know better and end up selling them for scrap way before they get to even 100k because they are not worth the repair costs to fix them. So you really need to take this video down and let your friend sell that piece of shit on his own if he even can because your only hurting your reputation doing him this favor of advertising that car as being something special and a great buy because who ever buys that car will be getting into that long line of ex-Audi owners who were screwed and will now swear to never own another Audi again. LOL LOL The poor bastards. I would rather buy a BMW M car so that I could at least get some real performance from it before it too will die an early death. At least i wouldn't look like a moron every time someone would blow by me in a race. Whoever buys that car better record that engine sound quickly so that he will be able to take it with him when he needs to start taking the bus to get to work because his engine blew up on him and he can't afford to spend what it will cost to repair it and now he is stuck with a car that he will have a hard time selling for even 10k because it won't run anymore. The only thing Audi's are quicker to do than other cars is having some catastrophic engine failure that will cost as much as what you will pay for a used one to repair it. LOL LOL and anyone who is foolish enough to take your advice on buying one of these cars will soon enough hate you and will be mad enough at you to hunt you down for putting this video up. In your video you use say "if something goes wrong" when everyone knows that you should have warned everybody by saying "something will definitely go wrong" instead. You just ruined your reputation by pushing that hunk of junk here and I hope it was worth it for you to do that .
