We cracked open the Zealand reddit to look at some great Football Manager memes, but instead we ran headlong into literally the best goal I have ever seen in FM. 1:32 It's honestly ridiculous how tough it is to get a senior affiliate. Especially if you're doing decently well from the beginning.
At first you get brushed off with the "You haven't been here long", then it's just "We're doing alright" or "We'd rather not be the smaller party in this agreement".
Like come on now. No matter how well someone is doing, if a 5th league team had the opportunity to get a first league or even a reputable second league team as senior affiliate without having to pay something, they'd take that any day of the week.
It's unrealistically difficult to get the board to approve of looking for a senior affiliate, particularly in FM23.
Back in FM20 they'd go "Yeah, sure. And you know what? You've been doing so well the last couple of seasons that we're actually letting you approach potential affiliates". (Although I believe that was not for senior ones) Bring back those times.
I'm top of the EPL and won the Champions League last year, and the board refuse to give me a junior affiliate for any reason too.
They told me i have too many afffiliates ( had 2) removed them, then they tell me they are satisfied with what we have
Oh and they randomly cancel affiliates too. Like Dortmund cutting ties with their American academy team fro no reason.

4:15 is wrong. We played each other in 2014 World Cup qualifications. First match in Croatia ended 2-0 and we tied 1-1 in Serbia.

Not only is it hard to get a senior affiliate, but even when you do, 90% of their players still don't wanna join you on loan. I rarely bother trying to get one.

I had a goal just last night that may have been my best (from an actual standpoint...not from an ascethetic perspective)...throw in to player chesting down to volley into box...which got headed back across goal and tapped in on the volley...so in closing...the ball never hit the ground from the moment my throw in taker took the throw in until the ball was in the net.
Sat in stunned silence then ran back the replay several times to see if it hit the ground

yo Z, why are my players with high determination decreasing in their determination. Any tips? and why?
bad form I’d assume
If you're seeing big and sudden drops in determination it's likely due to injuries. To some extent this is just bad luck, but you can minimise the risk by managing their condition, playing time, and training intensity carefully.
Are they in a mentoring group with low determination team leaders? Because that will kill high determination. Had a player lose 10 full points of determination because of that.

Haha the rule about Serbia and Croatia playing was removed.. but it is still on for Serbia and Kosovo.. and I think Serbia and Albania after the incidents a decade ago. But yeah, Serbia and Croatia played each other even only three or four years after the war ended.
What I would like to see, although I do not think it is technically possible, is unified Yugoslavia and Yugoslav league, that would be a fucking fun save. Alternative universe where the breakup never happened.

Is the Serbia/Croatia thing true? I know there are certain fixtures that can't happen cuz of political reasons, but I believe they mostly have to do with Azerbaijan and Kosovo to varying degrees, and also to a degree Gibraltar. Armenia and Turkey had two different fixtures in the same group recently for Euro qualifiers, so if THEY can somehow pull it together (in spite of the home fans making a stink during the games), no reason Serbia and Croatia couldn't. (And I'd argue it'd be WAY more fraught if Serbia was facing Bosnia or Kosovo).

He was incorrect about Croatia. Kosovo is the main problem, though you are correct that Gibraltar (Spain) and Azerbaijan (Armenia, the only forbidden matchup for both nations) are involved in a couple of the other forbidden matchups.
That about Serbia and Croatia is wrong. We already had several games since the war, last one around 10 years ago. No reason to have us draw them again.
