  • On the 80th Anniversary of the last major RAF Bomber Command attack on Aachen (11/12 April 1944), Dr Philip Blood returns to discuss the raid that lasted all of 7 minutes. For those on the ground, it would be seven minutes in hell. Phil takes us through the raid and the implications of the orders for it, as well as the wider context that has become a major part of his new book, War Comes to Aachen.

Interesting discussion of air raids on Aachen Germany that becomes a conversation about genocide and area bombing of cities. Two of the best, Blood and Bone, raise lots of issues that I had never considered. Well done. Informative entertainment.

Excellent presentation, gentlemen, and a worthy resumé of the previous discussion.
    Cheers, Phil and Matt!
(I did consider nicking the 'Blood and Bone' sobriquet but didn't...'Chapeau' to the man, Jim Watts, who did, mind!)

The majority of Aachen was already in rubble by the time Allied troops launched their assault to capture it.

Same here. Vonnegut's tale is superb if tainted by Irving.
