The dogs weren't made from the corpses of the dead tributes. They were just genetically modified to look like them. I remember being very disappointed that the writer didn't have the guts to stick to that idea. In general I wish she had just went with it and done more stuff like that.
Wait they weren't?! Man I remembered that book wrong.
Yeah that part did confuse me in the book trying to figure out if the dead bodies they took were transformed or if they were separate. But genetic manipulation becomes a key plot point in later books
@@shadowofthesilver I believe in the third book there was a quick line about it, *Spoilers For Mockingjay * As the Lizards-creatures are chasing them through the sewers, when they hiss, it sounds like they say 'Katniss' like there targeting her specifically. Katniss's inner monologue says that she recognises Snow is built them that way to mess with her head, similar to the dogs in the first book. There may have been some confusion there because in the first book, she genuinely thought the dogs were made from the previous tributes.
Right? I went to see this in theaters with my mom when it came out and was disappointed. Partially because it was to dark to see the fully rendered dogs, but because they were supposed to be similar to their corresponding tribute in terms of the color of their eyes and fur
I know it was genetic mutations but I would believe that they stole the eyes straight from the corpses of the kids
“So after Gale condemn himself to the friendzone for all eternity”
*dead*
I don't see what they do, we have katniss's mother whom is catatonic and her sister being sad. She doesn't think she'll survive so gale tries convincing her that she WILL come back, not should or can but you WILL survive this
I wish they had put in the scene where Haymitch fell off the stage
Same. I like Haymitch being very manipulative (in a good way) to help out Peeta and Katniss as much as possible... But I also loved that he was a drunk almost beyond help. The movie lacked that part.
The costume and makeup crews must have had a blast with these movies.
If I was into that type of art, I would have loved to be apart of the crew
Either that they hated their lives after a while. 😂
They did. I heard in an interview that they asked the author how she wanted the costumes to look and she said something along the lines of "You do costumes and makeup and I don't. You do what you do best."
"Why not set the tree on fire"
setting a live and wet tree on fire? have you ever tried using wet wood as firewood?
honestly it depends on the type of tree and how hot you can get it. Wet pine burns good. Real good
@@the_inquisitive_inquisitor I really hope you learn that from a fireplace
@@apuppetandacookie8200 bonfire pit
@@the_inquisitive_inquisitor Wood that is wet from the outside is one thing, live/freshly cut wood is another.
Even if you manage to get it burning, boiling out all the water inside siphons A LOT of thermal energy.
And setting a large tree on fire is EXTREMELY difficult.
There would be an argument to be made for setting up a ring of fire around the tree to smoke her out,
but that still depends on wether she can climb high enough to escape the smoke.
@@michaelt.5672 I've burned pine that I cut the same day and once it gets going it REALLY gets going. Like I said, it depends on the type of tree. Pine sap is really thick and resinous and burns like napalm
In the book, Peeta was also a painter. It's glossed over in Katniss' "you're right, I can't do this" speech in the last movie. So, that might be where his skills come from. Also, he has rather humble characteristics, so playing it off as 'just cake decorating, no biggie!" Makes a ton of sense.
The movies glossed over a lot of stuff that people don’t realize. The story behind the mockingjay pin being the biggest, in my eyes. The old woman’s story was so beautiful, I wish it was part of the movie so badly.
Additionally, there are all kinds of cake decorating, from using lots of frosting to create shapes when squeezed out of a bag to *painting the designs on to a fondant base using brushes and food coloring.* No, "decorating cakes" is not the same as "camouflage," but it's basically Peeta's shorthanded way of saying he is an artist...something we don't get a better idea of until book 2. It might be that he doesn't consider himself an "artist" because he doesn't use paints or colored pencils or markers or whatever--supplies he cannot get really, because luxury items like that are only obtainable by people with more money and idle time on their hands, and while Peeta's family is better off than Katniss's, they are still working class and money is still an issue (his mother struck him in the head for burning a couple of loaves of bread which made them now unsellable).
Btw, Krim, while many people in District 12 ARE poor, there are government officials stationed in the district who have more money to spend, and then there are families like the mayor's, whose daughter gave Katniss the mockingjay pin in the book, who are much better off and have money to spend on "fancy" things like decorated cakes. Additionally, even poor people TRY to get things like decorated cakes for special occasions even if they have to save up for it.
It was never supposed to be that everyone in 12 is starving or on the edge of starvation. Katniss' family was in a particularly vulnerable situation because her father was dead and her mother fell apart after the fact. Without the breadwinner in the family who worked in the mines and brought home money, the Everdeens were in a bad situation. The only means they had of making money were selling the cheese made from the goat's milk of Prim's goat, and whatever trade Katniss could get for the small game she illegally hunted.
The family's situation really comes down to Mrs. Everdeen seeming to be unable to cope with her husband's death. While it's never explicitly stated since the books are from Kat's POV and she has obvious resentment towards her mother for not taking care of the family, it is at least heavily implied that Mrs. Everdeen fell into a deep depression.
There is a lot you have to glean from between the lines in the series, and there is a lot that isn't known about Kat's mom. But what we do learn is that she was a merchant's daughter and learned her healing arts in the apothecary they owned. Peeta's father was in love with her at one time, but she "ran off with a coal miner." The term "ran off" makes it seem as though she married against her parents' wishes, and being that we are told District 12 is in the part of Panem that used to be Appalachia, we can assume that old Southern values and traditions still are a big deal there and marrying against your family's wishes can get you expelled from the family. Since Mrs. Everdeen is still young enough that her parents could and likely should still be alive, the fact that they are not helping to make sure their granddaughters aren't starving suggests that either they have fallen on hard times, too, or they are no longer speaking to their daughter and no longer acknowledge her. Either way, it appears she had no support system/family to count on for help once her husband was dead, and fell to pieces because she did not know how or was incapable of supporting her daughters.
Gale's family, likewise, was in a bad situation because he, too had lost his father in the mines, and he had three younger siblings to help support from the age of 14. He would not be allowed to work in the mines until he got out of school, so that is why his family was living in poverty too.
And no, half-starving coal miners do not dig coal out any better, but the history has always shown that coal-mining families live on the edge of the poverty line. They are well enough off as long as the miner in the family is strong enough and healthy enough to keep doing the work, but medical expenses eat into their salaries in a big way, and if they are ever injured, killed, or even just fired from their jobs, the family is in dire straits VERY quickly. Coal mining towns don't tend to invest in many other businesses, so without the mining job, there is no other way to bring in money. That's how the mining company keeps them dependent and under their thumbs.
Also I got the opinion Peeta wasn’t perfectly blending himself in like they showed him but he understood color theory and new how to juxtapose light and shadows to better hide himself. Like all the book ever described was very effective use of mud and other surrounding environmental materials
@@hellogoditsmesara3569 right like where and why would they have brushes in the training room? Like you said in the book and makes way more sense he would use natural materials which he can use the skill of “decorating” baked goods in an artful way of blending not full on Picasso here’s how I paint myself to be a chameleon.
I never stopped laughing at these movies due to the fact they had a subway sponsorship. “The Hunger Games! Be bold! Eat fresh!”... The HUNGER Games.
Its even better since the name of the country is Bread
@@fangsabre im unsure if this is a slap in the face or divine perfection
You know they never mention the tessarae system or the actual rules of the reaping which would have shown just how astonishing it was that Prim's name was drawn because in that bowl there were 20 pieces of paper saying Katniss Everdeen and only one with Primrose Everdeen
silverbrumbyfan 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Exactly. Katniss even says it herself. The odds actually WERE in her favor.
silverbrumbyfan
I agree, although I will say there were a few times they brought it up,
In the movie, after Prim wakes up crying, Katniss tells her “Your name’s only in there once”.
And later, when Katniss is saying bye to her mother and Prim, she tells Prim “Don’t sign up for Tesserae, it’s not worth putting your name in more times”.
However, they didn’t go as deep as the books did, and there definitely wasn’t as much of an impression of how unlikely that was.
for real, and given how desolate that state was katniss wasnt the only one to have her name duplicates into that bowl. Primerose getting picked was an anomaly. id argue the odds dont actually exist and the system picked primerose on purpose just like the 11 girl
Weren't the results staged?
Krimson, starving people do not produce as much coal, but the more brutally they are treated, the less likely they will rise up. That's what happened with slavery, and that's what happens in the Hunger Games.
The way I see it the miners and their families would be sort of taken care for by the capital, I'm not saying they'd live like kings just enough to survive and keep them semi fit so that they could continue working and get as many people in the mines as possible. When Katniss' father died they lost that small bit of protection (Gale's father was killed too in the accident), I'm not entirely sure but I haven't found any evidence that suggests women or under 18s can be miners too in the book. So if their father hadn't died Katniss probably wouldn't need to rely on her hunting skills so much.
Basically it means if you or someone in your family isn't down in the mines you're going to starve
It's also similar to how Coal operator exploited and kept Miners and their families in abject poverty until the West Virginia Coal wars.
True, the miners are getting paid, so the comparison to slavery was inappropriate, but the miners are barely paid enough. (also they don't really starve because they bribe peacekeepers.) Subjugating people, I agree with Krimson, would be pretty stupid, if it weren't for the Hunger Games, which are supposed to deter revolution.
evil and stupid are 2 very different things. Subjugating people into a state where they can't win if they try to rise up is evil, bu makes a lot of sense in keeping their privileged status. "The capitol is stupid" my ass.
The books describe multiple people who do starve to death in districts 11 and 12, and everyone who is dead isn’t working.
Let's take a moment to appreciate that Donald Sutherland is one of the best villain actor choices since Ralph Fiennes was Voldemort.

We do not talk about the original Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie. It never happened, there is only the show.
Only people who have seen ONLY the movies could think Peeta sucks and that Gayle is better. Peeta is a mastermind, lol. Also, he's adorable. And everything he did ever, was for Katniss- as said, WITHOUT being creepy, manipulative or controlling.
I think he was aware that she was the only hope for her family, while his family could cope very well without him, and in the last book, his whole family is murdered, so he has nothing else to live for except Katniss
He’s my favorite character
Nora Girl You’re right. I really didn’t like the actor playing it and never read the books, so I guess that’s why I never liked Peeta. Also his name reminds me too much of PETA and pita. 😂
"Creepy, manipulative or controlling "
So, not Christian Grey
Peeta definitely strikes me as an Angel type character..... if Angel were s lot less broody
The entire Hunger Games in the book was packed with so much more, more intense. For example, Katniss doesnt find water until like the 2nd day
The thing is Peeta was and is a beautifully written character but it's crystal clear that Katniss was never able to love him like he loved her.
Sure they are tied to each other for their whole lives but it's through hardship and war and manipulation and a necessaty in the beginning of the books.
In the end Katniss is a broken woman that has lost everyone she loved and became an outcast of society and Peeta was by her side as he always was .... But it's never like they have a beautiful romance, they are broken people coming from a broken world and they can only confine in one another.
*confide
but isn't that more profound and beautiful though? two characters who learnt to love each other by being there for each other, and none of this shit fluff romance and shallow physical attraction. the world they live in does not call for romance. it's a hard bitter world and they found each other. i think it's a different kind of love, and it's valid.

For all the differences from the books, these movies are still some of the best adaptations ever.
And I still believe that the fourth movie was really good.

4th movie good. You are an intelligent being
Doesn't Thresh bash Clove upside the head with a rock the size of a loaf of bread in the book? Or am I remembering that wrong?
No you're right. He basically caves her skull in with a rock. Although it's not upside. He slams it straight into her temple. But they cant show that kindof damage in a pg 13 movie
I remember the first book the most, so I won’t speak on the other two, but the book was way more graphic than the movie. The one that sticks in my mind the most is the tracker jacker part
From the book:
[In reference to Glimmer]
“This girl, so breathtakingly beautiful in her golden dress the night of the interviews, is unrecognizable. Her features eradicated, her limbs three times their normal size. The stinger lumps have begun to explode, spewing putrid green liquid around her. I have to break several of what used to be her fingers with a stone to free the bow. The sheath of arrows is pinned under her back. I try to roll over her body by pulling on one arm, but the flesh disintegrates in my hands and I fall back on the ground.”
[Skipped the paragraph after that one]
“ ‘Do this!’ I command myself. Clenching my jaw, I dig my hands under Glimmer’s body, get a hold on what must be her rib cage, and force her onto her stomach... I tug on the silver sheath of arrows, but it’s caught on something, her shoulder blade, something, and finally yank it free.”
[Careers come back to the site]
“But it’s too late to run. I pull a slimy arrow from the sheath and try to position it on the bow string but instead of one string I see three and the stench from the stings is so repulsive I can’t do it(x3).” (p. 192-193)
Even though it’s just a hallucination, it’s still pretty nasty ngl. And yes, I did pull out my copy just to respond to this. Thankfully voice to text exists so I didn’t have to type all that
@@ambrosiadreamer Sorry to bother you after two years, but could you recommend me a voice to text app or something? I've been looking for one for ages
The tree wouldn't be able to set fire bc. there isn't enough air inside to keep it alive, and their in a pseudo-rainforest, so the tree''s probably too wet for burning.
Pferd Schild they probably don't have enough fuel tho
even with setting the tree on fire, fire isn't reliable or easily controlled once it gets going. There are the game masters who could put out the fire (they do make crazy wild fire too), but would they or would they allow the fire to burn? There's too many factors to waste on one contestant that they believe won't be a challenge...
I just thought it was a fake tree with camera technology inside.
That tree could definitely burn there's enough leaf litter around to start a fire
Containing that fire to just that tree is another matter
I adore Peeta, he’s sweet, kind, self-deprecating, funny, artistic and can bake!
lost a leg, almost died, kidnapped, tortured and brainwashed, all for Katniss
I always interpreted the reason the people were kept on the brink of starvation, was because children eligible for the hunger games would be able to receive rations to feed the families, the catch being the more rations you take the more times your name is placed in the reaping pool.
District 12 is also so poor because coal isn't seen as essential to the capitol, so they don't treat them well. Districts like 1 and 2 are better off due to what they provide for the capitol. District 1 producing luxury items, and District 2 providing the vast majority of peacekeepers for Panem.
Not to mention, keeping your country starving and ill makes it harder forbthe to rebel.
actually, the girl who dies from eating poison berries is depicted sudying what wild foods are edible or not early in the film. this implies she ate the poison berries on purpose.
That makes sense, she knows she can't beat any of them and likely can't trick them so choose your own way out
It's REALLY hard to set a live tree on fire without a lot of accelerants, and honestly, they'd just be burning down the forest around them in the process.

And Prim gave the pin to Katniss and she came out alive, soooooo, yeah, it did serve it’s purpose...

Okay I know this discussion is long over at this point but I have to bring it up somewhere because it annoys me every time I hear that critique point AND I have never really seen anyone countering it before so here:
Firstly: District 12 may be the poorest district overall but not everyone in District 12 is poor! There is a clear divide between people from town and people from the Seam. People from the Seam are the ones we see most of which is why people think that's all there is to District 12. THEY are the poorest of the poor, who are at the brink of starvation everday. The merchant families in town however actually earn more money, have overall more secure lives and don't have to sign up for tesserae.
Which brings us to point 2: Yes people in the Seem most definetely can't afford the fancily decorated cakes from the Mellark bakery, but a lot of people in town can.
And thirdly: I don't get why it's so hard to believe that Peeta is good at camouflage because he decorates the cakes!! Peeta is artistically gifted! He can paint! Why is it so hard to believe that he can remodel a tree he sees directly in front of him (especially with the kind of professional material they had in the training area) if that is literally the same thing he does with the cakes?
Okay I'm done xD. But gosh that annoys me every time lol. There are most definetely some eyebrow raising moments in the series every now and then and some way heavier critique points to be made about the plot (*cough cough* looking at you Mockingjay ┬┴| (・_|┬┴), but this is really not such a big deal or so incredibly unbelievable as people make it out to be xD
I was thinking about that the whole time lmao. The Hunger Games got really popular when I was in 5th grade or so (when the first movie came out), so it’s probably just be being a dweeb. It’s definitely a series I remember decently well. I always think about just how much more brutal/intense the books were whenever I watch the movies
Finally, I was looking for someone to say it.
What's more unbelievable is that painting, especially realistic painting which involves multiple levels of shading and lots and lots of color matching, most of which can only be done accurately if the under layer has completely dried and careful detail work cannot be done quickly enough to be any sort of defense, especially while wounded and being hunted
Thankyou Thankyou Thankyou!
Thank you Thankyou thank you!

No doubt the books are better. But I still appreciate the movies, especially the later ones, for getting pretty close
Oh how prophetic Caesar's words were to Peeta...."You go out there and you win this thing and when you get home. she'll HAVE to go out with you." Because of their refusing to submit to the Capital's little mind game, that's exactly what happened. lol. She had to continue the love story with Peeta in order to protect Peeta and her family from Snow....even to the point of marrying him.
That makes me not ship them though. If the relationship is forced or coerced I don't ship it. Never could.
@@UnknownUnknown-mo7zg Its funny....in the end, when they went back to District 12 together at the end of Mockingjay and they were alone....no Effie, no President Snow dictating their every move, no threat of death.....I felt like the love between Katniss and Peeta was very genuine. They had both LITERALLY been through hell in the Games....twice....and survived. Katniss lost her little sister....she essentially lost Gale and her Mom as well....she was alone. Peeta was brainwashed by President Snow. He didn't know what was real and what was warped. And in the end, when Katniss thought she was alone, he found her again. I felt like when they were lying together in bed and he asked her "Do you love me, real or not real?" and she said "real", she meant it this time. It wasn't just part of a game. I think in that moment, all the walls that she had carefully built around her heart came tumbling down and she let herself truly love him.....and trust him. Remember she said at the beginning of her journey that she would never have children.....she had children with Peeta.
@@CeltycSparrow Yeah, but the start of their relationship is just too 'ick'. It's comparable to a forced marriage ( Well it WAS a forced marriage.) which shouldn't have happened in the first place. I don't care what the end result is ( And yes I met my soon to be exhusband while we were deployed so I know how the bond feels.), it's just a couple I can't ship because of their origins. Origins are very important to me when it comes to consent and marriage. Tainted fruit ruins the dessert regardless how sweet the fruit is.
@@UnknownUnknown-mo7zg The thing is, though, that she was never forced or coerced into a relationship with him. She was coerced into a PRETENCE of a relationship with him. Yeah, that still is unfair because she wasn't really left with a choice as Haymitch and Peeta decided this without consulting her and after that televised interview, she couldn't really undo it without seriously hurting her public image and thus her chances of survival. But for me, that aspect of it really made me enjoy the complexity of their relationship. It's not like Katniss had to do anything like have sex with him even though she didn't want to. She just had to act lovey dovey with him for the cameras. I enjoyed how their interactions kept you constantly guessing. For the longest time, you're never quite sure how much of their relationship is real or indeed when any of it becomes real. I think as mentioned in the review, this is where the book has the advantage. Being told from Katniss's first person perspective means you get to see directly into her head and all her different developing feelings. Even though she herself doesn't realise it or admit it for the longest time, the reader can see how even as she continues the pretence, she is developing genuine feelings for Peeta. This becomes especially evident as the love triangle with Gale becomes more pronounced and you get to compare her relationship and interactions with him against hers with Peeta. Although Peeta's motivations are rather mysterious at the start of the series, his love for her becomes pretty obvious later when we see the lengths he'll go to to protect Katniss. So I don't think it's fair to compare their relationship to a forced marriage. I come from a culture where arranged marriages (not forced mind you just arranged) are common and you don't get to really know your partner until after marriage. Peeta and Katniss aren't comparable to that. Despite how their relationship began, they still got to know each other, suffer together and overcome hardship together and develop a genuine bond. At the end of Mockingjay, they're no longer under surveillance and threat from the capitol. They're free to cut ties and yet they don't. They choose to stay together and get married. There's nothing forced about it
@@Scheherazade-pr4jt yeah it is pretty interesting
I think "I'm not gonna leave you.... I'm not gonna do that." is quite possibly my favorite bit of acting in the whole trilogy. The anger, frustration, passion, fear, and tenderness Lawrence put in just that one line... it's masterful.

7:40 your point about the capital is misguided. Starving people can't rebel or organize easily. It has been used throughout history, and is today in North Korea.

Tbf, I don’t think it’s mentioned in the movie
They treated the districts the way they did just to prove that they could. They wanted to prove that they were in charge. They cant keep control if everyone was well feed and trained.

so they both apparently read the books, yet didn't know the 12th district has a "upper class" (like the mayor, peeta's family, etc) which DOES buy decorated cakes from peeta's bakery. the movie only shows the poorest part of the district and that makes me seriously doubt that they actually read/payed attention...

THE BOOK WAS BETTER
Ehh, The Lord of the Rings books used the word "queer" too often to be taken seriously. My vote goes to the movies minus the Hobbit.
ltflak that’s a product of the time it was written in. Not a fault of the writing.
And in a few decades, the LotR movies will look dated. Not a fault of the filmmaking process.
ltflak people can still appreciate good film making when done well enough. We still like movies from 20 years ago despite dated effects. Hell To Kill a Mockingbird is in black and white and it’s hailed as a classic. Plus, are you really going to fault an author for using a word he had no idea would fall out of use? That’s like saying the Iliad sucks, because Ancient Greek died as a language
I did not say the LotR books were bad, I quite enjoyed reading them, but the antiquated language kept pulling me out of the story. Same with the Iliad, it all suppose to be a poem but in the translated version it's just a story. I can't appreciate the Iliad in the original Ancient Greek so of course the work suffers as a result. To Kill a Mockingbird didn't have to rely on so many special effects, so it can age better, but it is still aging.
Apparently they tried to do make the dogs similar to how they were in the books but every model they made for it looked silly, so they decided to go with regular huge dogs
I'm sure tons of people already pointed it out, but I thought it was suggested that they didn't set the tree on fire because it would create smoke and therefore draw others to them :o
I'm no archery expert, but she shouldn't have just let the arrow loose like that after Gale startled her, she has to make those herself and lost arrows are no joke when a lost arrow means hard work replacing it. Most people I know in similar situations (working VERY hard round the clock) have to make EVERY minute of their day count and would at least feel frustrated at the extra time spent making more arrows when there are a million other things they could be doing. It's the kind of life where you go to bed at night with still a million other things you COULD have done, (even if everything else went perfectly) because there just arent enough minutes in the day
Also, she has the bow drawn for way too long before firing, the average hunting bow has around 50 pounds of force, at most you will have that sucker drawn back for a max of ten seconds. Either she has muscles of steel or her bow is so weak it wouldn't kill a fly...
The less said about the plastic "feathers" on her arrows in the arena, the better
Those plastic feather are ok, I mean the Capitol constructed it.
what made it good was that the author of the book actually worked on the movie which i think is good
I would like to point out that Vampire Diaries is NOT a rip off of Twilight, the first set of the series was published in 1991-1992. The show began in 2009, 2 years after Twilight, the book, and 1 year after the film. Sure they decided to bring it out then because Twilight revived the vampire trend but in a way Twilight is a rip off of Vampire Diaries since both books have a love triangle where the girl ends up going with the 'bad boy'. I use that term loosely since Edward isn't exactly bad but Jacob is clearly the safer option
Now usually I prefer the books to the show or film but I tried to get through the first series of Vampire Diaries after the show was announced but my god they're bad, the writing is terrible and the characters are fucking awful. People who think Elena is annoying in the show they're lucky they didn't use the book version because she would be absolutely insufferable. Its a shame because I like L J Smith's other books but Vampire Diaries is an absolute waste of time
silverbrumbyfan I left the same comment that vampire diaries came first. But in the 90's when I read them as 12 year old I thought they were awesome and reread them multiple times. They have a special place in my heart. They changed up a lot in the TV series, but I'm so glad they were true to the character of Damon. From the first scene he is in he owned and embodied that characters danger, and flipant manner. If you knew the back story from the books you could see how he was following thru with making Stefan suffer, but still falling short of killing him, not really out of brotherly love but he must live to suffer more
I will admit I liked the first 2 books when I first read them but after that it got really weird, like when Elena died she came back as this weird angel thing and then you had the kitsunes (a creature I really wish they had in the show) and Caroline having Tylers pups
Damon was the only character I liked in the books especially that moment where he throws Matt onto the roof of a car for holding a stick near him
silverbrumbyfan I know the auther wrote more books deacades after the first ones, and when I read the summary and and exerpt from the book it did seem off and wierd and haven't read them. But the first trilogy from the 90's The Awakening, The Struggle, The Fury were good. And the extra book The Reunion with Elena dead but trying to reach out was good. In the end the Powers that be gave her back as a reward, and I always thought that it was as human. That was the end of the seiries for decades. Than Vap Diaries airs and becomes huge so L.J Smith starts writing in that universe and I'm like what are you doing to Elana? Angel? What? No! So the first four are Cannon to me and the newer where she 'jumped the shark' are fanfic by an author that didn't reread her original work before writing more
silverbrumbyfan also Damon is awesome. I reread every part he was in the books so many times. Love that part with Matt and how he would play with him. Best character
silverbrumbyfan If it's better than the Twilight franchise, I could care less.
"my kitty!"
*Aggressive smooch*
I want Krimson rogue to do Battle Royale, but I already know that both the book and manga were much better.
Not to mention the English edition of the manga altered even more than the original version.
The Vampire Diaries was decades before your hated Twilight. Do your research Crimson. It was a book series that was written in the mid 90's by L.J Smith that had a complete 3 book story arch, and was so popular she rewarded her readers with a fourth book that had a stand alone story. It was her most read and bought seiries. So it is not a rip off of the Twilight craze. Was about time it got it's time to shine on screen after it's literary birth two decades before
Not to mention that the Salvatore brothers and the Originals are INFINITELY superior to the Twilight vampires in every way. Most importantly being THEY DON'T SPARKLE. They smolder. lol
i think he was probably reffering to the show? havent gotten to that patt in the video yet tho so idk for sure
@@sokkvabekkr5973 I think you are correct that he's probably referring to the show. I have read the books though....still better than Twilight. lol
8:37 BATMAN! THE HALL OF JUSTICE IS TAKEN!!
Batman: i had to sell it
OKAY!
For who may care: Pita is a common way of saing bread in rumanian.
Yeah a few varieties of bread have names that essentially mean bread.
Please don’t compare Damon to Edward as some rip-off. At least Damon had character development and a PERSONALITY! Plus TVD books came out WAY before Twilight.
Damon is INFINITELY superior to Edward in every way. He's hotter, he's stronger, he's more bad-ass, he has FAR better chemistry with Elena than Edward does with Bella....he makes snarling and being covered in blood look sexy. Did I mention he's hotter? He is more protective of the people he loves. His voice is sexier. And he DOESN'T SPARKLE.
im a straight male and i would want to bond with Damon
And isn't it Stefan whose more like Edward than Damon? Stefan is the broody one and even he has more personality than Edward and better chemistry with Elena. More than Bella and Edward anyway. Damon and Elena just have more chemistry
Keeping the people in the districts hungry would make them easier to control, and they can obtain food by in exchange for having their name put in for the reaping more.
Well technically it’s implied that she sees Similarities in Prim and Rue
Suzanne Collins has said herself that the books were inspired by stories of her father in the Vietnam war and Theseus and the Minator.
Battle royale*
@@imabitchbutiwouldliketosay5230 besides the children fighting to death plot, battle royal and hunger games are little to nothing alike
@@imabitchbutiwouldliketosay5230 Battle royale wasn't the first "children in a death game" story lol
What do they call the Hunger Games in France?
Battle Royale with Cheese.
Usually couple of Peacekeepers would buy the deer but it was the Reaping Day so better security and probably some Peacekeepers from other districtswould come for that very special day and all that jazz
Want me to fix the scene? I'm going to do it.
The arena was small enough Thresh could have easily found her body. Seeing her buried in those flowers, he could easily have deduced who paid the girl her final respects. It certainly wouldn't have been anyone but Thresh, Peeta, or Katniss. So an educated guess later and you have him paying Katniss back.
But bodies are retrieved in only minutes and that's because in previous games a kid ate another and it was too much of a grotesque scene for the people. It is not shown in the first movie but it still happened
the review its ok... but the interactions are so cringy that it makes it really hard to watch
Kidato yeah it’s kinda cringey but the way you make it better is to imagine that their a couple and that all these interactions are cute couple moments between him and Diana
Kidato I don’t really like her. I don’t know if it’s just me, but I feel like she tries a little too hard
Wow people are no fun here
Could be worse - like Doug Walker
I agree. Theres a lot of situations like this in other reviews that include other people. I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks they're super cringy, and Krimsons over the top yelling and sarcasm in some places is super unnecessary. I love the reviews but idk...
YES! The dogs in the movie really bugged me too. The book versions were the only thing that actually truly disturbed me while reading (ok, the description of the career being stung to death was pretty close to that too) , and they totally nerfed that for the film!
Yay more of one of my favorite series! Even if it is a reupload, it's still amazing!
I needed this. Krimson you are creeping me out lol. Every time I have a rough day or even the opposite and it’s a cool day with a nice breeze and I have a coffee but nothing to watch and I feel like just sitting down, you always upload. It’s starting to get freaky 😂😂 thanks for the episode! I love your channel to death.
I'm just glad to help a fan. :D
Also, don't check your bookshelf for any cameras. Because there totally isn't one there. >.>
KrimsonRogue *gulp
I just assumed Thresh must've happened across Rhue's memorial and concluded only Katniss or Peta would've displayed such a compassionate gesture for the little girl.
Katherine Seward except that the game makers removed her body as soon as Katniss left.
That fast?! Wow, they were even worst than I thought.
He knew rue shadowed katniss in training and that katniss was always kind to her
apparently in the book, Katniss told Thresh what she did for Rue when the child died. How they formed an alliance and how she sang Rue to death and decorated her in flowers and comforted her in her last moments and that is why Thresh chose to spare Katniss at the feast rather than kill her as he did Clove. It was the honorable thing to do since Katniss had shown Rue kindness. In the movie, he just spares her because he hears Clove gloating about killing Rue.
Also, in the books theres a whole separate area of the arena that none of the other tributes go to that Thresh hangs out in till Kato comes to fight him. So theres no way he wouldve stumbled on Rue's memorial anyways since he was chilling on the other side of the map
I really liked the costume design for the capital, the gaudy bright colors, and excessive makeup is reminiscent of the style ancien regime, the elites of pre-revolutionary France. the style personifies the luxury and carefree existence of the ruling class.
She's the female version of Drew Monson aka mycoldtoe
Oh my god, YES.
ugh, I just love you and Diane together. Despite having already seen this episode, I was plenty happy to watch you two again :D
Hey, just wanted to say that I love your reviews. They make my day a lot better :>
I loved the shaky camera. It made it seem more real and less cinematic. It gave the impression that we were there recording it instead of watching it, which is awesome since the hunger games is essentially a reality tv show.
Yay glad you reuploaded this great review :)
Love your channel, have watched your videos for a while now but have just decided to become a Patron on Patreon, keep up the great work :D
Glad you enjoyed it, and thanks for the patronage! :D
You're welcome! :)
OMG OMG YES! YES! You did the Boondock Saints rope clip!
Am I the only one that thinks that the "I volunteer !" line would have been even more powerful if Peeta would have been choosen *before* Primerose ?
10:20 Small nitpick here, it's 1, 2, 4
17:24 It's to the few other rare rich people of the district, like the mayor. And probably to the "police" too.
21:52 In the book she is running and just gets lucky. But here, of course, she has to block the knife.
23:47 To be fair, that tree is pretty big. Wouldn't be so easy to set it on fire.
25:10 Her life isn't save by Peeta, or did you skip the scene?
26:26 And of course she's attack by surprise, avoids the weapon throwed, instead of seeing the guy killing Rue and planting an arrow before he even realize she's there.
Francis Thompson And the boy from 3 to move the landmines.
HOW DO YOU NOT MENTION MADGE
Real quick. Foxface was supposed to be portrayed as someone who know a lot about edible plants and animals. Noth the book and movie have blink-and-you'll-miss-it scenes where she shows her level of skill. This was meant to show that she didn't eat the berries by accident and that she knew exactly what they were. This was meant to be a suicide.
When Peeta says that he used to decorate the cakes in relation to camo it is inferring his ability to pay attention to minute details which would make camo very effective.
Person: twighlight-
Me: *screaming and smashing my head against the wall*
So, I recently read the 'Howl's Moving Castle' book, and I was thinking that'd be a good Book was better
I mean, Diana Wynn Jones said herself said that the movie should be considered separate from the book. Although Krimson talking about Diana Wynn Jones would be awesome.
Thresh knows about Katniss and Rue in the books because Katniss told him. In the movie maybe he picked it up from context clues. After all, Clove did mention they were friends and that the careers killed her. Maybe he just had a soft spot for Rue and knowing she had a friend in the arena didnt want to kill her? Thresh kindof always struck me as like a farm boy who got picked for the death games. Like if Peta worked a field instead of bread and rolled a low charisma stat.
Aw, Diane, Gale was trying to be strong for Katniss, to be reassuring and not make her more afraid than he KNEW she already was.
Zombieland doesn’t “take a toll” on anyone. I’m sure the actors loved that movie. Except for the extras that spent hours on makeup. I’m sure they hated it
The Templin Institute made an excellent video on how stupid the Capital is. Not only does the Hunger Games themselves only serve to foster resentment and rebellion, but the district system means that they ignore a lot of resources. Even if it is as Diane claims, that f.eks 12 produce mainly coal, but also other similar resources, it's still made clear that the districts only produce one type of resources each. Which is a horrible way to treat natural resources. The California district, as they used for an example, produce fish. Meaning that they ignore the countless other natural resources that made California one of the best economies in the world.
I absolutely love that you used a Boondock Saints reference
Okay Krimson, CGP Grey made two videos on power structures and I feel like they would be very useful to look through before deciding whether or not the system is stupid. Is it cruel? Yes. But that is how things are done in many dictatorships.
Who else is sad that the goat story didn't make the move ( I love that " Who is a bad lair now Petar " line )
“my ego must be I N F L A M E D”
Stanley Tucci is a gift to society. No one will ever convince me otherwise.
OMG I totally thought this was uploaded in 2008! The sketch thing totally reminds me of channels from 10 years ago!
NPC: Why is it when I have fun it's wrong?
Krimsonrogue: because when you have "Fun", someone dies!
14:04 There is actually a town in Alaska that had a cat as a mayor. Stubbs the cat
Water Lily the raptor 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
My understanding was that Katness's family was poverty level even for her own district, since none of her family work directly for the mines (I don't remember what if any job her mom has). Leaving them as having to make a living by supporting miners mostly by Katniss's poaching and selling extra meat a miner's salary wouldn't normally allow.
Regardless Hunger games had more to it than a certain "Divergent" YA series...
Going through Krimson's back catalogue has really given me a greater appreciation for his growth over the past few years. I really like Krimson when he's being Krimson, but I don't really care much for him when he's being Doug Walker.
My mom says her favorite part of Jennifer Lawrence's acting, was that it looked like Katniss was always thinking, and I agree.
By ambiguous did you mean androgynous?
Eh tomato potato
Actually the economy does work it is called mercantilism which is the system by which colonies( in this case districts) give raw material back to the mother country ( in this case the capital). Then the capital gives them protection for it and maybe finished goods.
Thanks for introducing Leafing Through the Frames. Just became a subscriber to her channel.
Edit: thanks Ms. Lee. Because of her, I am now subscribed to Geek Happy Network. You guys should do a network together or something.
Krimson: says it would be better if it was run by cats
The movie cats : well hello there
Everyone:ÀÁÄÂÆÃÅÅAAAAHHH
Not to mention all Katniss had to do when the two-winner rule was revoked was wait for Peeta's reopened leg wound from the dog attack to bleed out and she could be the victor without having to kill her district partner. But she didn't wait it out; she took action with the goal of saving Peeta or to die trying together. They actually had the berries fully in their mouths before Seneca announced them both victors. And Katniss's actions did save Peeta's life but even the Capitol tech couldn't restore his leg damage and had to amputate the limb.
21:20 i love that the gun has two scopes at once, i know near nothing about guns but guaranty that more is better.
Why do you have a flip phone in 2018??
Because I am incredibly stubborn.
krimson still owns a flip phone
So this is the first video of yours I've ever seen and my first thought was "damn, that dude reminds me of Dawson from Dawson's creek" 😅
The thing with the dogs always disappointed me about the movie. I feel like the fact that they looked like the dead tributes is immeasurably important. Also more of a dumb thing, but I feel like the tracker jacker scene was insanely lacking in the movie. One of the things that will forever stick in my head is just how gross and shocking it was in the book. I haven’t read the book in a while, but I still remember it pretty well.
Also from the dvd extras, they talk about how Effie wears such restrictive clothes to punish herself for going along with the death of these kids. Have fun with that sad fact!
KITTY!!!!!!
On a more serious note. I couldn't watch the hunger games, literately. The shaky cam gave me a headache.
