In this video I discuss why I think the previous generation Yamaha R1 (2009-2014) still holds its value so well compared to the newer generation R1 (including the redesign). I explain why people are still paying upwards of $8k for this bike still. If you are primarily a street motorcycle rider most of these factors are applicable to you. The new Yamaha R1 added traction control (TCS), wheelie control, ABS, etc.
Currently, Kelly Blue Book value of a 2014 Yamaha R1 (mine) is $9,460 and the KBB on a 2015 Yamaha R1 is $10,380.
As of today, the Kelly Blue Book (KBB) value of my 2014 Yamaha R1 is $9,460. That’s $1000+ higher than the KBB value when I bought my bike over 2.5 years ago. Are the old generation R1s going up in value?! For all the “improvements” to the new generation R1 I find it interesting that they’re only valued $920 more (2015 KBB value $10,380) 🤨
Damn that’s wild !! I looked mine up and was shocked to see the high retail on it was pushing 9500 as well! Bikes are supposed to be depreciating assets and if I sold mine for even 9200 tomorrow I’d make out on it lol !!

I have a 2010 R1 love that bike the rawness of the bike is great. I like the 12-14 refreshed look slightly more but from 09-14 Yamaha damn near made a perfect bike

I loved my 14. But I love me 15 even more. Only thing I hated about my 14 was the weight in all aspects. I definitely had to muscle it around more on the race track(even with ohlins and tuned suspensions). My 14 had all the track goodies(suspensions, tuned ecu, exhaust, translogic qs/blipper and etc).
Compared that 14 tracked out vs my Stock 15 R1 I ride faster. On my 15 bike I crushed my personal best times from my 14 by 6 seconds. The agility and power delivery on the newer R1 is a huge difference. My 15 bike is STOCK(still has abs on, stock suspensions, no blipper etc).
My buddy and I traded bikes to just demo ride them. He had a 2009 R1 blacked out with a GP shifter and I had (still have her) 2024 R7. I shit you not, I was really intimidated by that machine. I knew its power, and I respected her. When I rode her around, she felt hungry for speed, she didnt like the low speed riding. Throttle was very twitchy. Much more noticeable than her smaller sibling, the R7.
I was averaging 30 mph since our route was small and short. Regardless the speed, I got off the R1 with the adrenaline still pumping.
Honestly, it was a great experience.

I just bought my 2012 R1 yesterday for $10.2k in Orlando... Expensive, but it was the cheapest (non-dropped) one I could find in FL, GA, and AL (was searching for 2009 and up)... I love it so far though... My last bike that I owned was a 2003 R1 many, many years ago.
I was a fan of R1 since 2006 (had a buddy put a custom aero kit on it). Even the biggest critic can’t deny those looks from then on. Then to find that beauty wasn’t just skin deep, there was some competition blasting performance in engine and suspension. When you get a bike that pretty much checks all the boxes (I always compare to the NSX), it’s hard to justify the necessity of the others.
Just bought my 2011 R1 for $950 bringing her back to life the bike was hit from the back by a guy in a truck and the guy tried to drive away with the bike under his vehicle so sad that's why I can't wait to bring my baby back to life. Stay safe out there brother
If the R1 had grip warmers a fuel gage and cruise control from factory it would be so much better.
i have a 2011 but i am thinking about switching to a 15 just for the fact our bikes struggle just to make 160-170whp meanwhile the 15 makes 190-200whp easily. Our big bang models have alot of reliability issues, cold start issue, cam chain rattle issue and the new one is over all just more reliable. the new r1 weighs a whole lot less too
You will never be able to use full 170hp of a bike on a public road so why worry? Enjoy this beautiful beast who cares

In our country singapore. A new r1 cost $50k-$60k SGD and we can only own it for 10years. After then 10 years cycle is over. We gotta renew it and cost another $11k SGD as of today.. 😅

A 30k motorycle is going to be an exotic NICE piece of engineering! A 30k sport bike? Its going to be a V4 Pinagale or an R1M or a M1000RR etc ....I'm talking titanium cabon fiber magnesium with ALL the electronic wonder features! But if anyone just wants plain jane 1000cc sport bike? still easily had for under 20k

I have the anniversary edition less than 3k miles aswell, I got lucky .
I’ve not owned the 09/14 or 15+ am still on a 04 I found a couple years back showroom mint 715 miles on it. Still mint and 10,000 miles current. When I need another r1 I will probably pick up a 09-14.

I can’t imagine it weighs any more than my 2005 SV1000s and this bike doesn’t feel heavy to me, but I ride a Harley also and rode cruisers before I got the Sv. 2010 R1 is going to be my next bike, super excited for that.

I ride a 2006 Road Glide, a CBR600RR & I'm picking up my 09' R1 today. Sport bike riders have very little respect for hog riders, speaking from experience, which is why it appears we don't like you. The reality is, yall usually don't know anything about Harley's & have little respect for anything that doesn't wheelie (but can if we wanted) & can't go 0-60 in 1.2 seconds... so we have nothing to talk about.
I have a Harley as well and have good riding buddies on both ends of the spectrum...riding is much deeper than doing wheelies and going fast. The type of bike you're on shouldn't dictate your opinion of someone...but unfortunately that's the world we live in. You have an awesome line up of bikes! Congrats on the new R1! Dont even get me started on the enviromental damage it causes, and thats actually insane how much even a little bit of gas or oil does to affect the enviroment, its so heavily regulated at my job that if we accidentally spill even a little bit, we have to report it, and have it specially drained. Just fill up like normal bro
